November 23, 2000 - Here's a letter from Rick concerning the May 2000 article on Realplayer 7 and Odin - http://www.os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0500H/vnewsf5.htm:
Hi Mark,

I just finished your article and have tried this procedure. I have the WarpIn installer all set, but when I try to down load the debug version of the .wpi file, all I get is Greek across my screen. No download box appears at all. I have tried this several times, but to no avail.

Any ideas as to what I can do to correct this problem?
TIA
Rick

Mark's Reply:
Are you using Netscape? If so you have to right click on the link and select "Save Link as". Netscape doesn't have a MIME Type set up for the wpi extension, so it just displays it as text on the screen by default.

You can set up a MIME Type yourself for this if you like by going into Netscape's "Edit" Menu, Selecting Preferences, Navigator, Applications;
Then click on "New Type"

Description of Type: WarpIn
File Extension: wpi
MIME Type: application/WPI
Application to use:

For "Application to use" just enter a single Space since it requires an entry. Then click on OK.

Then select the WarpIn item again, and click on the "Edit" button.

A screen will popup asking you if you how you want to handle this type of file. Select "Save it to disk". Also uncheck the "Always ask before opening this type of file" check box. Then click on OK. From then on clicking on a WPI file should always save the file to disk.

Hope this helps

Mark

December 4, 2000 - Here's a letter from Jim LaLone:
You badly need a table of contents. Stepping through every page is a really slow way to pick out an article or two to read.
Editor's reply:
In response to this our Web Master, Seth McFarland added the current feature article links to the main Newsletter page. In addition please note that we have a feature article Master Index for both the English and German issues -

December 8, 2000 - Here's a letter from Phil Brown:
I have been trying to find a source for software choice subscription in the UK. I have followed all the instructions on the web pages and have had some responses saying my request has been passed on but I still haven't received any details on how I can purchase it.

Do have any info on how I can subscribe

Editor's Reply:
Have you tried Mensys? As far as I know they will sell IBM products to the UK. http://www.mensys.nl Their SWC page is at http://shop.mensys.nl/catalogue/mns_SWCHOICE.html

You can also try The UK OS/2 User Mailing List to see if they know of any place local to purchase SWC. To SUBSCRIBE to that Send a message with 'subscribe os2uk' in the body to majordomo@sross.anglianet.co.uk
