Event: BayWarp meeting November 23

19 Nov 2004 08:49:39

From: "Neil Waldhauer"

Date: Tuesday, November 23, 2004
Time: 7:00 - 10:00 PM
Place: Help Desk Computers (WTW Group), 1456 Pollard Road, Los Gatos, CA
95032

Come join us in our monthly meeting. We are OS/2 and eComStation users,
and we meet every month to show off our latest software and hardware. We
bring laptops, network cables and power, and we often do live
troubleshooting of systems during our meetings.

Hint: It's between the Mexican Restaurant and the Japanese Restaurant in
the corner (Safeway is on the far right). $5.00 per person to be collected
for help with the munchies.

Topics:
* Making a program supporting USB Digital Cameras with Rexx/DW

Rexx/DW is a GUI development package that makes it possible to make a
small to mid-size GUI program using Rexx. This package is still in beta,
but it works well enough to make a reasonable camera program. Attendees
are encouraged to bring any USB digital cameras they may have.

Event: PASUG Mtg: Thurs, Nov 18th

16 Nov 2004 18:35:16

From: "Larry Lavins"

.. PHILADELPHIA ALTERNATE SYSTEMS USER GROUP
.. http://www.phillyos2.org
The Philadelphia Alternate Systems User Group (PASUG) invites all
interested computer users to attend the November meeting. .
THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18th, 2004 7:00-10:00PM
Bryn Mawr Community Center, 9 S. Bryn Mawr Ave, Bryn Mawr,PA

.. *** THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 18th MEETING AGENDA ***
.. -- NEW RELEASE: eComStation v.1.2 --

The November meeting presentation by PASUG member Doug Leach will feature
the new release of eComStation 1.2 from Serenity Systems. We'll quickly go
through an installation to a clean partition and review some of the
features and choices. eCS 1.2 is fundamentally MCP2 with Fixpak 4, plus
networking and device driver updates. Additionally, Serenity has
incorporated a new installer which was easy and trouble-free on Doug's
system.

In addition to the base OS, eCS bundles a number of applications and other
software into the installation. These include versions of the desktop
enhancements from XWorkplace and Styler/2 folder, and title bar
enhancements. Although some may see it as eye candy, the functionality
provided by these utilities was enough to give up almost all of Object
Desktop. Also included in the default install are Mozilla 1.7, Adobe
Acrobat Reader, Innotek Runtime Environment (required for new Mozillas),
Innotek Java 1.4.2, a version of RSJ CD Writer, Macromedia Flash 5
(unfortunately not Flash 7) and the Escape GL screensaver.

Lastly the eCS Maintenance Tool (MT) is also installed for system updates.
For those who haven't seen it, eCS MT is sort of Windows Update (without
IE of course!) superseding the old WarpUP CD's formerly created and sold
by Indelible Blue. That said, it's also true that most features included
in eCS 1.2 are available from other sources, including device driver
updates and fixpaks if you have a Software Choice or Passport Advantage
subscription. If you have a system with MCP2 and Fixpack 4 on it, you may
not want or need this upgrade. But for a fresh install, it was found to be
most appealing to have almost everything up to date.

Other November agenda items include announcements, news & new software
releases, Q&A session as time may permit, and possible 50/50 raffle. Soft
drinks, pretzels & chips will be available.

MEETING FORMAT & TIME SCHEDULE (Subject to change)

associated technologies. Please try to be on time promptly by 7:00pm to
avoid missing earlier parts of the meeting.

VOICE: More details on the Norman offer for VOICE members

10 Dec 2004 11:53:07

From: "Gordon Snider"

To answer some questions for those who are buying a Norman license through
VOICE for the first time I am explaining the process in a bit more
detail.

The Norman Anti-Virus Program offer works like this. VOICE has a deal
with the Norman representative here. Because VOICE is a non profit
group, and because we are buying a group purchase, i.e. more than 50
users, he will sell licenses to us at $14.00 US each. So every VOICE
member who pays $14.00 US per license by the 12 December (or AT LEAST
sends me an email saying "My check is the mail"), will be on the list. I
will total up the number of checks I have received, and the number of
MEMBERS who have told me a check (or money order) is in the mail, and the
number of people who have paid to Mensys by credit card and buy that
number of licenses from Norman. Then I will distribute them by email to
the VOICE members who have paid already (or when their check arrives).
There have been enough current VOICE members pay, and enough new members
join VOICE to get this offer, to push the number of licenses well over
50.

Mensys is merely collecting names and money. Mensys is not distributing
licenses. I will be emailing the licenses (and recording who has them)
after I buy the number needed.

So send your $14.00 US per license in now to get on the list. [Moderator
note: This deal is only available if you are a member of VOICE.]

VOICE: Norman Anti-Virus group purchase

07 Dec 2004 12:29:37

From: "Gordon Snider"

OS/2-eCS User,

VOICE will soon be purchasing a group license for the Norman Anti-Virus
program. BUT YOU MUST BE A VOICE MEMBER TO GET THIS DEAL.

Some of you already have Norman Anti-Virus and those licenses either have
expired or will shortly.

The system works this way: You download (from the Norman website) the
program that searches your hard drive for viruses, and install it.

It is a demo version until you plug in a license number. It can be
downloaded from here.

http://www.norman.com/Download/Full_versions/nvc/en
Scroll down the page to the OS/2 section.

and this one for the manual:
http://www.norman.com/manuals.shtml

A license entitles the customer to product updates, enhancements and virus
definition files throughout the two-year license period.

You may download the latest of the virus signature files as they are
issued for that two year period.

If you had to purchase a license as a single user Norman's price for a 2
year license is 80.00. (** All prices are US dollars.**) But you get a
price break through VOICE. Because VOICE would be buying a group license
and because VOICE is a non-profit group the cost can be much lower. For a
2 year license, in US dollars the price is $14.00

There will be a limited number of Norman licences available and these will
only be available to NEW members who join before the 12 December, 2004.
The cost to join VOICE is $25.00 US for an annual individual membership or
$10.00 US for an annual student/senior membership.

You can join VOICE here to take advantage of this offer:
www.os2voice.org/application.html

You can pay the membership dues by any of the three methods mentioned
there.

After you have joined VOICE, to get this Norman Anti-Virus program offer
send an email to treasurer@os2voice.org
