Maul Publisher V2.23 for OS/2

This version of Maul Publisher fixes a lot of the bugs that have crept into previous versions.

URL - http://www.manglais.com

New rectangle fill mode. Twain support (untested, I don't have an OS/2 scanner...;-)

A request
========

It seems people have been trained by Linux projects to never ask for support or help. You know the sort of thing:- "Don't hassle us unless you have read the _entire_ faq, visited all the user groups, read our fine 10,000 page manual (in greek), and have the very latest system build...".

This means that people have simply not reported bugs at all. Yet it's the only way to know if the app works on all systems. Maul support maul@manglais.com is there to answer questions, to receive suggestions as to how to improve the product, and to report bugs. You will usually receive a response within 48 hours.

If you want good quality OS/2 software:- Please report bugs!

Yours
Peter.

Last Call for scanner support in Tame 0.96

As there had been very, very little response from US/EN (other countries gave much more feedback) I ask a last time for scanner settings.

If you have a scanner working with Sane (Scanner access now easy), please send me the output of 'scanimage -d device -h >device.txt' (device has to be replaced by the used sane backend e.g. epson) I need additionally the exact scanner model and the used sane version. Please send your data to staedtler-przyborski@web.de not this list.

With this informations I can add your scanner to the Tame database, so every user of the same scanner profits from your informations.

Tame 0.96 is a PM-Frontend for Sane. It is integrated into MMOS/2 (uses mmiocodecs, Lighttable), has preview and many other possibilities. Apple would call it due to it's look iScan (it is skinnable, so you can change it to your preferred style if you don't like the default theme).

Tame 0.96 will be a _complete_ scanning package (yes it will contain sane 1.0.10 so installation should be quite easy), and as soon the remaining bugs in the Sane USB version have been ironed out there will be a TameUSB version containing a Sane USB version too.

Tame is free, a previous version (0.94, very outdated don't send bug-reports anymore) can be found here (when it comes back to live): http://www.os2world.com/goran/

Some responses from Tame 0.96 beta testers (unfortunately I can't post a very, very impressive screenshot showing Tame 0.96beta using a USB-scanner with a scanned image in the preview window) [moderator note: I have seen it and it is cool to see TAME/2 with scan output from what I'm told was an Epson USB scanner.]:

> Overall I am quite impressed so far.

> I appreciate Tame/2 application.

> First of all: I'm very impressed

news.consultron.ca news server update

Hi folks!

I'm adding some new newsgroups to the consultron.ca news server. They are very high traffic, so the server is going to be offline for a while... which is to say, that posts made to it will be stored, but not posted immediately.

Here is a list of the groups in question:

comp.lang.apl:
comp.lang.c:
comp.lang.c++:
comp.lang.cobol:
comp.lang.fortran:
comp.lang.java.3d:
comp.lang.java.advocacy:
comp.lang.java.announce:
comp.lang.java.beans:
comp.lang.java.corba:
comp.lang.java.databases:
comp.lang.java.gui:
comp.lang.java.help:
comp.lang.java.machine:
comp.lang.java.programmer:
comp.lang.java.security:
comp.lang.java.softwaretools:
comp.lang.javascript:
comp.lang.postscript:
comp.lang.php:

After these ones come in, I'll be adding some more language newsgroups to the server sometime in the future... but these will do to start:)

I'll post another message when the feed has finished coming in. This is going to take some hours, and perhaps even all the way into tomorrow to finish, as these newsgroups are going to make my newsbase eight times larger than it is currently.

Sorry for any inconvenience, and I hope people find the new newsgroups useful!

Regards,

Jack Troughton

Warpstock 2003 bids update

Since a couple people have asked me about the status of Warpstock 2003 I thought I'd post a brief update.

We have received two notices of intent to submit a bid for Warpstock 2003. One on the West coast and one in Canada. So far neither has actually submitted a bid, but the deadline for that is February 28th. Hopefully we will have good news in 2-3 weeks. I will report more after that date.

FtpServer version 1.15 released

FtpServer, the FTP daemon for OS/2 and eCS that has virtual directories, has just been updated to version 1.15. You can get it at http://eepjm.newcastle. edu.au/os2/ftpserver.html or at ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/ftpser115.zip

LIST OF CHANGES

Version 1.15
Added separate speed limit for uploads.
Fixed bug: IP filter incorrect in Setup.exe (mask problem)
Fixed minor bug in LogAnalysis: failure to recognise that '/' and '\' are equivalent in file names.
Added a NIL check to TaskControl.SuspendMe.
Extended anti-tagger criteria.
Added Migrate.cmd to the tools directory.
Extended watchdog task to handle sockets that refuse to be killed.

Note that Migrate.cmd is a new tool that allows you to migrate the user database (managed by the tcp/ip configuration notebook) from IBM's FTPD. Unfortunately you will still need to enter the passwords manually, because passwords are encrypted, and the two servers use different encryption methods.

Free Utilities from Pillarsoft

We have a few command line utilities knocking around here that could be useful and we have decided to document and release them. No legal mumbo-jumbo and no registration required.

Most are quite simple but I use them often for various reasons. We have other items that we may add in the future. The utilities packaged at this time are:

CRLF - Convert LF to CRLF or vice versa on any selected file.

DC - Directory Change changes directories at the command line (like cd) using aliases. This utility creates a data file and alias/directory pairs may be added directly from any target directory.

FF - Find Files by name (or wildcard) on any drive, tree or individual directory.

RT - Replace Text replaces any string with a new string in selected file(s). May use wildcards for file lists and do complex search and replace operations. (Including multiple line search and replace)

SLP - Search LibPath searches the LIBPATH for DLL files. Handy for dll loading order inquiries as well as finding duplicates.

SP - Search Path searches the SET PATH statement for file(s) as opposed to searching drives or directories. Handy for finding duplicates.

They can be found on the PillarSoft website under "Products" http://www.pillarsoft.net

Wayne Swanson
