New PMView for OS/2 v2.32 now available

The updated OS/2 version is now available at http://www.pmview.com/

FWIW, to distinguish the new v2.32 from the old one, look in the "Help->System Info..." dialog. The up-to-date OS/2 build is 17833 (the one that has the broken save was 17832).

Best regards,
Peter

Updates to the Notebook/2 Site

I want to inform you about recent updates to the Notebook/2 site. I have to catch up with a lot of various input I received over the past months, but it has become increasingly difficult. I'll redesign the submission form in a short while to get better and more useful info. There is an increasing number of people asking for help regarding hardware replacement or Windows. I don't understand that, since the site seems to me very clear in its content and limitations. Anyway, here is what I did:

I uploaded info on the IBM Thinkpad R30, a Pentium III 1000 MHz machine. It runs with eCS, but there is no sound support. With this page, I try a new layout, and the programming technique has changed. Check it out and let me know your feelings about it.

I uploaded info on the Dell Inspiron 4100, a Pentium III 1000 MHz machine. It has the same problems like the Thinkpad R30, but better video support.

I uploaded an extensive installation guide for the IBM Thinkpad 560X. It's available through the list of installation guides or from the IBM Thinkpad 560Z page.

I notice that we need something like SDD for audio chipsets. It seems to become increasingly difficult to get sound support on the recent machines. Earlier, i.e. before SDD, it was the opposite. Is there anyone who can create such an universal driver, which would support at least rudimentary functions? It doesn't need to be able to support games.

Cheers!

New Weasel, version 1.4

At long last I'm releasing a new non-beta copy of the Weasel mail server. You can find it at

http://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/os2/weasel.html
or
ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/software/weasel140.zip

and I'm planning to upload it to Hobbes this afternoon. The most significant new feature is that it should now work on Warp 3 or better, i.e. it solves the problem created by a new feature in version 1.3. If you're still stuck back on 1.2, you'll find this one much faster for outgoing mail.

There's a more detailed list of changes in the zip file.

Future of PMView - OS/2 version will be continued!

Hi,

That's true. Development of PMView for OS/2 will continue along with the development of the Windows version and other versions. I was recently able to move OS/2 development over to WSeB thanks to ip8605 that finally fixed those nasty NETWKSTA.200 traps that prevented me from using WSeB until now. I've been using Warp Adv Server SMP with the old Warp 3.0 interface until now. What a change! ;-)

It's pretty clear that a future version of PMView will use wxWindows. The OS/2 version of wxWindows seems to have come a long way. Additionally, wxWindows will give me the opportunity to create Linux and Mac versions.

As it looks now, the next version of PMView will be v2.40 and the major new feature will be EXIF support.

Best regards,
Peter

PMView v2.32

PMView v2.32 is now available. It's already available at:

http://www.bmtmicro.com/BMTCatalog/multipleos/pmview.html

Within 24 hours it should also be available at http://www.pmview.com/

ftp://ftp.bmtmicro.com/bmtmicro/pmview2000v232os2.exe
ftp://ftp.bmtmicro.com/bmtmicro/pmview2000v232os2DE.exe (German)
ftp://ftp.bmtmicro.com/bmtmicro/pmview2000v232os2FR.exe (French)

The following bugs and problems are fixed in PMView 2000 v2.32:

1. Loading, BMP: Black&White 1-bit BMP files without color map load as completely black in PMView.
2. Loading, TIFF: TIFF-in-JPEG files having YCbCr photometric with only one sample per pixel cannot be loaded.
3. Edit/Paste: Pasting a color mapped selection into a color mapped image causes incorrect information on the status bar showing that the image has zero (0) color indexes.
4. Saving: Saving a file that is read-only locks up PMView.
5. File Open/Save dialogs: File names with multiple consequtive dots (e.g. "test..jpg") are not included in the file list when using "*.jpg" as file mask.
6. File Open/Save dialogs: Using multiple asterisks (e.g. "*.*.*") in a file mask does not work correctly.
7. Color conversion dialog: Typing in a larger value than 256 in the "Convert to Indexed 256-color" dialog causes PMView to crash.
8. Printing: When changing the value of the number of copies, the new setting is not effective until the print dialog is closed and reopened.

WarpIN and XWorkplace 0.9.18 released

WarpIN and XWorkplace have both been updated to V0.9.18.

1. WarpIN V0.9.18 has been released.

WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again.

V0.9.18 has quite some internal rework, such as Unicode support, and a nicer GUI finally.

2. XWorkplace V0.9.18 is out also.

XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is OpenSource. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project.

For details, please refer to the download address below.

V0.9.18 is mainly another bugfix release to the problematic V0.9.16 and 17 versions. Before I get yelled at again for releasing buggy software, be reminded that this is not guaranteed to be stable (as the version number indicates anyway).

Note: To install XWorkplace, you also need WarpIN V0.9.14 or higher, since XWorkplace now comes as a self-installing executable. I recommend using at least WarpIN V0.9.16 to avoid the problem with your existing XCenter disappearing on install.

To get the new WarpIN and XWorkplace, please go to:

http://www.xworkplace.org

WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See http://www.netlabs.org/nosa/ and the above address for details.

We have created four mailing lists at groups.yahoo.com:

-- warpin-user
-- warpin-dev
-- xworkplace-user
-- xworkplace-dev

for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers, respectively. HOWEVER, please note that I am currently not able to answer a hundred messages per day. If you want to report a bug, this is appreciated, but do not be disappointed if you do not get an answer. And please do not try either to mail me privately instead, that won't change things either. Thanks for your patience.

Have fun!

Replacement driver: JJSCDROM_20020318

This is a modified version of OS/2 CD-ROM / CD-RW / DVDs device manager driver (OS2CDROM.DMD), based on the latest OS/2 DDK on-line source code. This driver supports:

- Per-unit-basis "feature enforcing" features.
They enforce:
= to turn on "CD-DA readable", "CD-XA readable" and "multisessioning-aware" flags
= vendor-specific SCSI CD-DA digital reading / CD-XA reading / multisessioning methods
- "WORM-devices as CD-ROM" treatment.
- Per-unit-basis "ignoring drive" feature.
- Enriched /V option output.
- "CD-Extra" (data-multisessioned audio-CD) mounting.
- SCSI-3/MMC-complient CD Capabilities / Mechanical Status Page recognition in default. Salvation for some modern SCSI drives.
- Of course functionally equivalent to official OS2CDROM.DMD, including CD-RW / DVD writing and formatting, and USB connection support.

eComStation: Dialog Enhancer updates

I have posted a new update to the Dialog Enhancer support (English) for eComStation. This update and/or the corresponding update to eCS Fixtool (3 of 3) should solve some of the strange behavior in some modules.

From the dlgupdten.txt:

The dlgupdten.cmd is designed to solve some of the problems that have been encountered with the Dialog Enhancer updates from Serenity Systems.

1. Some modules shipped and installed from the eCS GA CD were not the original IBM modules. This results in the dlgxr04501enb.zip file built from the installation CD by the ecsupdt.cmd being incorrect. The base modules in this zip file are used by the ecsupdt.cmd when applying the Dialog Enhancer updates.

2. Some modules had incorrect resource files shipped in ssi4501.zip. These resource files are used by the ecsupdt.cmd to apply the Dialog Enhancer updates, and the result is incorrectly updated modules when the Dialog Enhancer updates are applied.

This update addresses both issues by updating the base source modules on the applicable boot drive, updating ssi4501.zip with the updated resource definition, and updating the affected modules with the Dialog Enhancer updates.

You may also address issue 2 by downloading the latest ssi4501.zip file (eCS Fixtool 3 of 3) and re-applying the Dialog Enhancer updates.

The modules affected are:
\OS2\DLL\EHXDLMRI.DLL (Text Editor) \OS2\INSTALL\MIGRATE.EXE (Add Programs)
\OS2\DLL\PMMRGRES.DLL (multiple applications)
\OS2\DLL\PMSDMRI.DLL (multiple applications)
\OS2\APPS\DLL\PMSEEK.DLL (eComStation Seek and Scan Files)
\OS2\DLL\PMWP.DLL (multiple applications, icons only)
\OS2\DLL\SCENTER.DLL (eComCenter)
