The IT Services Unit at The HENLEY College is pleased to make available a Windows 95/98/NT screensaver program based on the OS/2 WarpServer "screensaver" bitmap available on IBM's Aurora website. The idea of the screensaver is to promote the use of OS/2 WarpServer as the definitive server for Windows workstation environments.

Use the saver
- On your Windows 95/98/NT workstations on the LAN
- On your machine at home
- As a gift to your colleagues

If and when additional "screensaver" bitmaps become available we will build new screensaver programs to suit.

You may download the screensaver from:

ftp://ftp.henleycol.ac.uk/warpsvr1.zip

Additionally, we will make the file available on Hobbes within the next week.

The software is supplied as freeware but no warranty is available and the software is used at your own risk.

You may e-mail ssha@henleycol.ac.uk for feedback.

What used to be the HTML 2 PDF project is now a PDF file creation tool. It still uses HTML as input but, the focus has changed. Now the main point is to create PDF files. HTML conversion will likely be possible but at some future point.

This is the offical announcement. The program is now on hobbes (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu). This is a beta/acceptance test so your feedback is very welcome.

It is still shareware. The current price tag is $10 and it can be registered at the GammaTech Mall (http://www.gt-mall.com).

Greetings from Yokohama, Japan.

I released a new version (beta 0.06) of VNC viewer for OS/2 PM.

This is new beta version (beta 0.06) of PM VNC viewer. I appended some requested features.

1.When minimized, stop update request to server (as Windows version). This reduces unneccesary network and server load.

2.Now viewer saves windows position and size per host bases. Next time connect to same server (and server's screen size is not changed), viewer shows window same position & size.

3.Introduced option '-dialogAtCenter', which enables all dialogs at center of the screen. Default, dialog will placed near mouse position.

4.Add frame around entryfield in password dialog.

In this version, I changed the structure of the INI file (VNCVIEW.INI). For safety, please delete VNCVIEW.INI before invoking the new version.

You can get VNC viewer for PM under my OS/2 tools page

DreckBak is the ideal solution for backing up your Hard Drive without special hardware. Ideally suited to removable media, large Hard Drive, or any device that can be written to by OS2 that has a drive letter.

There's no longer an excuse not to have a backup! Get it now! It works, and works well.

Cfgmaint 0.98 has a serious bug when used in conjuction with 4OS2: Whenever saving the config.sys, the edited config.sys is appended to the old one :-(. As workaround you could either switch back to cmd.exe or wait till the bugfixed version is available.

We currently are in need of an OS/2 Administrator with Citrix WinView or WinFrame experience in the Youngstown, OH area. This person will be responsible for the support of a multi-platform LAN. The platforms include in priority order OS/2, Novell 3.x and Windows NT. MS Exchange and Outlook experience is a plus but not necessary. The salary is negotiable and there is a fairly flexible schedule totaling 40/wk.

StlView is Freeware OS/2 PM application for viewing of STL files. STL 3D format is de-facto standard for Rapid Prototyping systems. (Laser Stereolithography Apparatus is most known Rapid Prototyping technology and STL stands for STereoLithography)

StlView does not use OpenGL, so it can be used at OS/2 3,4 and 5 (Warp, Merlin, Aurora). It can work at any number of colors, but for best performance you need 256 colors or more. Homepage for StlView:

Dear OS/2 User,

We know you have all been waiting patiently, and the second beta release of SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2 is finally here! This version is still a little rough around the edges for the installation process, as we have not completed the GUI configuration programs yet. Configuring the drivers is a little cumbersome and done with command line utilities for the moment, but we are now working on the dialog driven installation program and control panel utilities.

Please read the readme.txt file included in the ZIP file archive thoroughly before attempting to install SDD for OS/2.

For those who are interested we also have the MGL fully ported and running under OS/2 fullscreen sessions. The first beta release is already available on our ftp site, and we expect to have the next beta release ready soon with bug fixes and updates.

Where to find the SDD for OS/2 beta

You can download the install ZIP file from SciTech's ftp site:

ftp://ftp.scitechsoft.com/sdd/beta/os2/sddos2_10_b2.zip

and

ftp://ftp.scitechsoft.com/sdd/beta/os2/ibmgradd.zip

The ibmgradd.zip file contains all the IBM 0.77 GRADD files needed by the installation. You will only need to download and unzip this archive once for all beta releases (make sure you unzip with -d!).

Supported Hardware

This is a complete list of the various graphics cards that this version of SciTech Display Doctor supports. Please note that this list refers to the actual chips being used, not a board-level implementation. Thus you will not see any products from Hercules or STB on the list, but their products are supported because they use S3, Cirrus, Tseng, etc. chips. Also, any card with less than 512KB of memory cannot be supported by SciTech Display Doctor.

Please note that we are in the process of moving all our existing device support code to our new SciTech Nucleus device driver architecture. If you have a chipset that is not listed below that you would like to see supported in SciTech Display Doctor for OS/2, please send an email to sddos2@scitechsoft.com to let us know.

We want your feedback!!

Your feedback is important to us, to ensure that we are building a product that works the way you want it to. We need feedback from our beta testers, both positive and negative. All feedback for the beta program should be directed to sddos2@scitechsoft.com for the time being (we will soon have a HTML bug reporting page in place).

** IMPORTANT NOTE **

This version of SciTech Display Doctor is a BETA release and may display irregular behavior or fail on your particular system configuration. If possible, SciTech Software recommends that you install this software on a non-mission critical system. Please note that installing a beta version of ANY software program is a risk which should be considered prior to installation.

Thank you,

SciTech Software, Inc.

I have just installed the SO Filter Update (by CD rather than downloaded) since the download did not contain the WordPerfect filters.

There is a possibility that the update will not apply/load new FILTERS available on the CD such as the extra WinWord and WordPerfect filters if you did a custom install.

To correct this, go to the StarOffice Setup in the SO folder, and use the MODIFY function. Select from the Star Office Program Modules, the "Star Writer" sub list. Then "Text Filter" list, and check to see if the WP filters are actually highlighted. If not, select them, and any other filters that you may want, click the COMPLETE button.

You will need the StarOffice CD in the drive. If you don't put the disk into the drive, you will get a message asking you to put it in the drive, when you have done so, "YES" is not the correct answer. Complete/Continue is.

The german c't magazine (http://www.heise.de/ct) has an article on their newsticker about a possible new Notes Client for OS/2.

They write that some big OS/2 customers in germany force Lotus to provide a new version of the client for OS/2.

It looks like the european IBM and Lotus people think that there *will* be a new version, the US-division is not sure about this because "...OS/2 is not anymore important in the USA". Guys, we still use it here :-)

You can read the whole story in german at:

Beginning with unified version 222 of Matrox drivers for OS2. Matrox introduced a modified version of SCREEN01.SYS which traps at boot for my Compaq and Matrox PCI cards (Millenium or G200). This is also true for version 223.

So be aware if you plan to do so if you own a non AGP system (ie a PCI card). functions are said to be OK on AGP systems.
