Event: Warpstock 2004 Registration open

23 Apr 2004 11:43:16 -0500

From: "Mark Dodel"

April 23, 2004 - This year's Warpstock Event will span four days of
expanded classes and traditional sessions. You have the option to
register for a daily attendance price or all four days at a significant
savings. We have created for the first time, a bundled price including
all four days of the event along with both socials. All prices will be
discounted until August 15th. The discounted price is like getting the
Socials for free and an additional $3 off the daily price, this is a great
savings! Please register as soon as possible so we can plan accordingly.
Classes will be on a first come, first serve basis, with limited
attendance. Not all classes are included in the registration base price.

You can get information on how to register via the Warpstock Online Store
< http://bamart.com/warpstockinc > and our own Warpstock web pages
< http://www.warpstock.org > . Registrations can be made by credit card or
by mailing in your payment.

Warpstock is again offering credit card only payment plans for Early
Registration of either 3 or 4 monthly payments to make it easier than
ever to fit into your budget! The first payment can be as low as $13.75!
You can purchase all four days and both socials for $57 a month. Payment
plans will not be available for purchase after August 2004.

The Denver Team has planned 2 different after hours get togethers
including a Saturday Night Social Event at the Denver Museum of Nature
and Science. There's a schedule posted on the website and at the store for
this fantastic evening which includes private tours of two of the exhibit
halls, an IMAX movie and a complete dinner along with transportation to
and from the museum. There is a STRICT time limit on purchasing tickets
to this event, so be sure to do so soon so you don't miss a great dinner
and a unique night of private exploration at a world class museum. Friday
night we will be taking you out for a night on the town with charter buses
so that you can safely sample the night life. Thursday and Friday we will
be going in groups to some of the local restaurants and cafes that are in
walking distance from the hotel.

Warpstock 2004 will be at the Sheraton Denver Tech Center Hotel. You can
place your reservation via the web at:

This link will give you our special rate plan of $79 a night, which will
be available for 2 days prior and 3 days after Warpstock, so why not make
it a family vacation and enjoy everything in the greater Denver region. We
negotiated the rate to be good for single or double rooms and they can be
upgraded for a modest amount.

Warpstock, Inc., is a North Carolina corporation. The Warpstock annual
conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from
around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More
information is available at the Warpstock web site :

SW: Mozilla v1.7 RC1 released...

From: Henk Pol

And we are the first port available:

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/releases/mozilla1.7rc1/contrib/mozilla-os2-1.7rc1.zip

As usual, you need the current GCC runtime from Innotek to install and use
these:

http://www.innotek.de/products/gccos2/download/gccos2download_e.html

And if you want to use Java, you need the Innotek Java support from here:

http://www.innotek.de/products/javaos2/mozilla/

Remember to place ipluginw.dll into the components directory and delete
compreg.dat.

Please test the heck out of this. I'd love to see a really high quality
OS/2 1.7 release.

OS/2 gets some prominent exposure in this discussion of Microsoft's
settling of the Minnesota overcharging lawsuit. There are links to the
court exhibits, which will be removed by Monday, so if you are interested
in some of Microsoft and IBM documents of early OS/2 history (and Bill
Gates' early crimes) and others take a look now.

You can get the exhibits directly at

are all TIFF files, so you have to download them to view them.

SW: cssdir GA 3.1 now available!

20 Apr 2004 18:22:47 -0500

From: cssdirSupportDESPAM@curtisSystemsSoftware.com

Curtis Systems Software P.C. http://www.curtisSystemsSoftware.com has
announced a new GA version of CSSDIR 3.1! The most powerful and flexible
directory sifting tool for OS/2 Warp4 and eComStation, releases notes can
be found at:
http://www.curtisSystemsSoftware.com/cssdirRelNotes.html

->The long awaited snapshot compare mode (Sscm), will tell you exactly
what files has changed between snapshots!

-->In Sscm you can control exactly what differences you wish to see,
new files, deleted files, changed files ...

-->Within the changed files you can narrow it down to files that have
changed
by a certain number of bytes, files that grew, files that shrank, or
that
changed by a specified percentage!

-->Wondering what an installation program has done to your system? Or
what
has changed since your system started behaving strange?
With Sscm you can now snapshot (or baseline) your drive(s) before and
after to detect exactly what files have changed, (including right down
to
the files attributes, dates, and even if the case of the filename
changed!!),
all with the PRO version of CSSDIR, currently available for a LIMITED
time
at no extra charge!

-->SnapShot compares can be done between the contents of the two
snapshots or
be narrowed down by a single branch or multiple branches as well.

-->Bare full filespecs of new and changed files can be generated to be
used
with archive utilities such zip or rar!

-->Multiple reports can be generated to separate files, with more or less

details in 1 invocation! Could be used with scripts and capturing day
to
day changes while archiving the altered files and details at the same
time
as well!

-->3.1 also contains a few fixes to the previous 3.01 release.

-->No daily user of either OS/2 warp4 or eComstation should be with out
this
software, your $$ support is appreciated and will aid its future
development!

-->CSSDIR is NOT BLOATWARE, its 100% natively written OS/2/eComstation
code!

SW: The Java Game of Life

19 Apr 2004 10:13:10 -0500

From: "Mark Dodel"

"The Game of Life (or simply Life) is not a game in the conventional
sense. Once the "pieces" are placed in the starting position, the rules
determine everything that happens later. Life is one of the simplest
examples of what is sometimes called "emergent complexity" or
"self-organizing systems." It is the study of how elaborate patterns and
behaviors can emerge from very simple rules. It can even help us
understand the diversity of life that has evolved on the Earth."

SW: GNUPlot ver. 4.0 is out

19 Apr 2004 09:54:36 -0500

From: "OS/2 World" < http://www.os2world.com >

GNUPlot 4.0 port for OS/2 is out:

WebSite:
http://www.gnuplot.info/

OS/2 Download
ftp://ftp.gnuplot.info/pub/gnuplot/gp400os2.zip

"Gnuplot is a portable command-line driven interactive datafile (text or
binary) and function plotting utility for UNIX, IBM OS/2, MS Windows, DOS,
Apple Macintosh, VMS, Atari and many other platforms. The software is
copyrighted but freely distributed (i.e., you don't have to pay for it).
It was originally intended as graphical program which would allow
scientists and students to visualize mathematical functions and data. It
does this job pretty well, and in addition it serves as non-interactive
plotting engine for miscellaneous portable third-party applications, like
Octave. Gnuplot is developed and supported since 1986, and having its
scripts and commands easy to understand text files, it is time-portable as
well.

Gnuplot supports various kinds of plots. In 2D, it can draw line, point,
dot, box, histogram graphs or vector fields. In 3D, it supports line,
point and dot surfaces, with or without hidden line removal. It supports
color or grayscale surfaces and maps, even for non-equidistant and
non-rectangular 3D data, otherwise it offers data gridding.

Gnuplot supports many different types of terminals: interactive screen
terminals (with mouse and hotkey functionality), pen plotters (like hpgl),
printers (including postscript and many color devices), and printings to
output file as vectorial pseudo-devices like LaTeX, metafont, pdf, svg, or
bitmap png. Gnuplot is easily extensible to include new devices. "
