The WiseManager evaluation kit, now available from Serenity Systems, has completed successful testing with Warp Server for e-business. Testing revealed some defective DLLs. However, problems have been resolved. Warp Server for e-business is proving to be a superior Managed Client(tm) environment.

Successful testing was also completed with the IBM Network Station 2800, announced on May 25 and demonstrated at recent LI and NYC user group meetings.

For more information regarding the evaluation kit availability, e.mail info@serenity-systems.com

Apparently Palm Computing took over the CoPilot source code and made it an official development tool, called POSE (Palm OS Emulator). Currently there are Winblows, MacOS and UNIX versions, all with source code.

It's available at:

http://www.palm.com/devzone/pose/seed.html

Anyone interested in porting it?

I have just updated The OS/2 Alternative (http://www.tstonramp.com/~freiheit/os2apps.shtml) and added to it my own set of REXX scripts for TrueSpectra's now defunct Photo>Graphics Pro for OS/2 vector graphics program.

PGPro Scripts v1.2 creates simple "3D shadows" of selected objects in any of four directions (down and left, down and right, up and left, up and right) and can be downloaded from:

http://www.tstonramp.com/~freiheit/PGPro_Scripts_12.zip

These scripts are provided as free, open-source (obviously) code and as such you are free to modify them to suit your needs. They have been released solely on the hope that they may be useful to someone else and there is no warranty of any kind.

SETI@home is a scientific experiment that will harness the power of hundreds of thousands of Internet-connected computers in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI). Anyone can participate by running a program that downloads and analyzes radio telescope data.

The OS/2 version of this program isn't available yet, but that hasn't stopped me from creating a team for OS/2 Warp! If you're interested in joining this team, point your browser to:

http://setiathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/cgi-bin/cgi?cmd=team_show&id=1331

Of course, you don't need to be running the OS/2 client (even when it's available) to join the team. In fact, I have an SMP NT box at work and a Mac at home running the SETI@Home software.

[WarpCast Moderator's note: The OS/2 command line version of the SETI@home client is in final testing and should be available later this week.]

Abbotsbury Software Ltd. has updated their driver for the Hauppauge WinCast/TV PCI card. The current version is 1.041L. New in this release is:

Audio Support for boards that use the MSP34XX Sound Processor. Finally your TV won't be silent! This support is for all boards except for UK models that have a "PAL BG/I tuner. Support for these models will be added shortly.

We have added support for more tuners. If you were able to see composite video but your tuner wasn't working properly, this driver should solve the problem.

VideoIN support. Tim has out done himself!!! With this release of the driver, you should be able to capture video to your hard disk for playback, editing or video conferencing. Your performance will vary depending on your CPU and available memory.

SVideo Support.

Still missing is "clipping support". If you are using GRADD, the video window will occlude any window located in it's display area, regardless of Z-order. This is quite obnoxious and will be corrected. The latest driver can be downloaded from the Abbotsbury Site:

IBM has promised delivery of their WarpTV application, however the project is being worked on as time permits. Since they offered us a very attractive license, I can't yell and scream too loudly to hurry things along. However progress is being made and we should all benefit from their effort. In the mean time, I encourage you to check out other 3rd party TV application offerings:

I'd like to announce the release of ServerConfig/2 version 1.0.

ServerConfig/2 is a PM configuration util for Apache and the InetPowerServer/2.

It also allows you to remote configure any unix/linux Apache. It includes a daemon that can be compiled under any gcc and thus allows ServerConfig/2 to receive and save configurations remotely, all from OS/2 :)

IPS is now fully supported. Services and users can be changed via individual containers per service/user. Also comments and extra lines are not lost.

Version 1.0 has more than 50 new features and changes. Good luck :)

After reading the OS/2 VOICE on line chat text with Joe Nord of Crystal, I asked Crystal about the updated drivers he mentioned.

Sure enough, looking at:-

http://www.cirrus.com/drivers/audiodrv/os2.html

reveals new ISA drivers at v2.08, and new PCI drivers at v3.03.

I don't know if there are any Crystal-based PCI cards on the market yet, but ISA cards certainly are :-)

This is just a message in response to the NVidia RIVA TNT2 graphics card having OS/2 Warp drivers, another rival company S3, and their new chipset the Savage4 will also have OS/2 Warp graphics drivers (which I've also got confirmation via e-mail that they will exist from S3) as can be seen in thier Savage4 data sheet file at:

Just a short note to let you know that I've created a new version of the OS/2 Switchboard website at URL:

http://home.worldonline.nl/~jhockx

This new version uses frames and some JavaScript, but there is also a simple index available when these features are not supported by your browser. Besides the website's new 'looks' I've also added a new page for 'hardware related topics'. Here you can find several links to information and drivers to use your (new) hardware with OS/2.

Have a look at the OS/2 Switchboard and let me know what you think about the 'look and feel' of this new version.
