SCOUG meeting Aug. 17: Networking essentials

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this Saturday, August 17, 2002 at 9:15 AM PDT, at Regal Lanes in Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

OS/2 Networking Essentials

Steve Schiffman, SCOUG's long-time Networking SIG leader, will help us deal with running a basic small network on OS/2.

Following Steve's presentation we'll have time for Q&A, so if you're having difficulties with something OS/2 related, be sure to ask for help about it. As always, there will be free donuts and coffee. Everyone is welcome!

After the meeting, those who are interested can venture forth en masse to Micro Center or Fry's. Lots of us stop at these stores on our way home...and when do you see other SCOUG folks there? So, let's just make it an official after-meeting event.

Help Desk chats are on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PDT. If you've got a problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. Info is at http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

OS/2 Help Desk and Networking SIG, Sept. 8th, 2002, 2 PM PDT, Chapman University in Orange:

SCOUG's in-person OS/2 Help Desk is held once a month at Chapman University, in room 203 of the Hashinger Hall Science building. SCOUG volunteers are there to help you work through your hardware and software problems.

While you're at the in-person Help Desk, take a look at what the Networking SIG is doing. It meets at the same time and place, so it's convenient to do both. What a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon each month!

How to get to Regal Lanes:

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north) at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of Orange dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!

VOICE Nominations

To All VOICE Members:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As most of you know by now, I was forced to resign as VOICE president for health reasons several months ago, but I have been filling in since then. Judy McDermott has also resigned as Liason Officer. Finally, Vaughn Bender has been nominated as Marketing Representative and has already been serving in that capacity for several months. Vaughn is serving in the new role of Mail Server Co-ordinator and has already cleared up a number of problems.
So what is the purpose of this announcement? We desperately need some additional nominations, especially for the office of President. Having an effective President is key to the healthy operation of VOICE in the future.
If are a VOICE member and know of someone whom you think would do a good job as VOICE President, Liason Officer, or Marketing Representative, please go to http://www.os2voice.org/nominations.html and complete the form by filling the requested information. The form should be self-explanatory; however if you still have questions, feel free to email either Andrew Welty at andreww@aaip.net or me at the address below.
A nominee must meet these conditions:
1. Nominee must either currently be a fully-paid up member of VOICE or agree to join VOICE upon election;
2. Nominee must agree in writing (email is satisfactory) to be nominated.
Note: Self-nominations are also acceptable.
Thank you for your co-operation,
Walter
