SW: Mozilla, Firefox, Thunderbird Vulnerabilities

15 Sep 2004 23:33:01

From: "Dave Yeo"

Hi, just thought that I would let everyone know about multiple
vulnabilities in Mozilla etc. See http://secunia.com/advisories/12526/

These will most likely only crash Mozilla under OS/2 but it wouldn't hurt
to upgrade to Mozilla 1.7.3
(http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/mozilla/nightly/contrib/latest-trunk/mozilla-os2.zip
), Firefox 1.0PR
(http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/0.10/contrib/firefox-os2-1.0pr.zip
) and when released Thunderbird 0.8

Net: 2nd (and last) call for votes for comp.os.os2.ecomstation group

15 Sep 2004 15:19:15

From: "Mark Dodel"

http://groups.google.com/groups?q=%222nd+CFV:+comp.os.os2.ecomstation%22&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&selm=1095259120.11802%40isc.org&rnum=1

See the above link for all details including how to vote. Don't send
votes to me, send them to cooevote@technopagan.org . Be sure to cut/paste
the voting ballot as it appears in the above announcement. Here is a
brief part of the announcement:

"LAST CALL FOR VOTES (of 2)
unmoderated group comp.os.os2.ecomstation

Newsgroups line:
comp.os.os2.ecomstation Serenity Systems operating system eComStation.

Votes must be received by 23:59:59 UTC, 24 Sep 2004.

This vote is being conducted by a neutral third party. Questions about
the proposed group should be directed to the proponent.

Proponent: Jason R. Stefanovich Votetaker:
David E. Smith

RATIONALE: comp.os.os2.ecomstation

The newsgroup 'comp.os.os2.ecomstation' would be a forum for
discussing issues related to the use of the eComStation operating system,
a licensed version of IBM's OS/2 from Serenity Systems Intl.

Currently, the comp.os.os2.* newsgroups are used as a resource for asking
and answering questions regarding all OS/2 versions, including
eComStation. OS/2 is the major operating system upon which eComStation is
based, however eComStation has gained sufficient interest to support its
own newsgroup.

In addition, the general audience for questions regarding eComStation and
Serenity Systems differ from the audience interested in general IBM OS/2
questions. Therefore, it seems appropriate for eComStation to gain its own
newsgroup for eComStation-specific questions."

SW: Managing MBRs (of USB memory sticks) in OS/2

15 Sep 2004 09:11:06

From: warpcafeDESPAM@yahoo.de

[14.09.2004] Wim Brul has uploaded his SETMBR20.ZIP to hobbes. From the
readme:

"SETMBR20.ZIP provides a set of programs to backup/restore/wipeout the
master boot record of physical disks present in or attached to an OS/2
system. It has been specifically designed to allow partitioning of a USB
memory stick under OS/2."

setmbr20.zip is currently available from the INCOMING directory on hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/setmbr20.zip
If moved to final destination (/pub/os2/util/disk) use hobbes search:

Thanks to Wim for uploading it to hobbes.

SW: unixODBC OS/2 port

14 Sep 2004 09:11:30

From: lsunleyDESPAM@mb.sympatico.ca

I have placed an initial release of the unixODBC drivermanager and three
database drivers (text files, DBF files and PostgrSQL database) on
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu (file name is unixodbc001.zip) There are beta
(alpha?) programs for DSN administration and a PM query program.

This is a replacement for other ODBC driver managers and will work with
the QE database drivers supplied with DBExpert and with the drivers
release with Louts Smartsuite for OS/2. The OS/2 DB2 driver also works.

Please address any feedback, complaints, and constructive criticism to
lsunleyDESPAM@mb.sympatico.ca

SW: Mr. Message (AIM client) 9/13/2004 update

13 Sep 2004 09:19:49

Forwarded message from Marty on Mon, 13 Sep 2004
07:27:07 UTC Posted on comp.os.os2.apps

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable of
communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR
protocol (used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, gAIM, Kopete, ICQ, and
a variety of other clients).

It has been updated with the following changes:

* Added the ability to customize your user profile.
* Added the option to add time stamps to sent and received messages.
* Added the option to automatically minimize the Session Manager
window when a session is started.
* Added the option to automatically launch a session on program
startup.
* Added a debug command line parameter ("-debug") to log debug
information to a file instead of sending it to stdout. There will
be no more output on stdout so you won't need to pipe it to a file
yourself.
* Fixed the "Settings Apply To" field of the "Settings" window to be
the correct kind of drop down list (can't enter a name, only can
select a valid choice).
* Fixed a tiny memory leak in the "Settings" window when a field is
edited.
* Fixed the saving and restoring of Global Settings between runs.
Global Settings can now be unique from each of the individual
session settings.
* Fixed negative numbers being reported in debug information for
"last send" and "queued" times.
* Fixed the icon flashing and state notifications for when you've got
yourself in your buddy list and you change to or from Away status.
* Fixed a long-standing bug which would cause a crash if you create a
new session object when other sessions are running.
* Fixed notification of the "network temporarily unavailable" error.

You can download it here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_bin_09132004.zip
or with the full source code here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_srcbin_09132004.zip

Please read the README file before running or asking for support. As
always, feedback is appreciated.

SW: LAN Server Process Spawner/2 V1.00 from WarpSpeed Computers

12 Sep 2004 15:53:37

From: "Chris Graham [WarpSpeed]"

Synposis:

Spawner.exe is an IBM Lan Server or MS Lan Manager service that spawns
other programs.

This allows these other programs to be controlled as if they were services
themselves.

For example. The FTP Daemon (ftpd.exe) is a normal command line OS/2
executable. It can not normally be started as a service.

Using the Spawner service, you can now start ftpd.exe as if it were a
service using a command similar to:

NET START FTP

This also allows management of remote hosts using NETGUI.

I have also used this to control Seti@Home, Apache, MySQL and others. For
the full readme file, please follow the link to Spawner.txt below.

Download:
http://www.warpspeed.com.au/Products/OS2/Spawner/Spawner.htm
http://www.warpspeed.com.au/Products/OS2/Spawner/Spawner.txt

Runs on:
OS/2 V1.2 and above

Requires:
IBM LAN Server (or Peer).
Microsoft LAN Manager.
