SW: FtpServer version 1.25 available

29 Sep 2004 06:40:03 -0500

From: Peter Moylan

FtpServer, an ftp daemon for OS/2 with better security features than the
standard IBM ftpd, has just been upgraded to version 1.25. You can get it
from

http://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/os2/ftpserver.html

or from

ftp://eepjm.newcastle.edu.au/FtpServer/ftpser125.zip

LIST OF CHANGES

Version 1.25 (26 Sep 2004)
New command SITE UTIME, which some ftp clients can use
to set the timestamps on an uploaded file.
VIOSetup now supports the "suppress logging" option.
Policy change: if logging is suppressed for a user, we
suppress all logging for that user, not only the
transaction logging.

SW: Binary build of XSane-0.96 for OS/2 available

28 Sep 2004 20:27:23 -0500

From: "Franz Bakan"

Hi,

there are new binary build of XSane (http://www.xsane.org) available for
OS/2. Version now is 0.96.

"XSane is a graphical scanning frontend. It uses the SANE-library to talk
to scanners. This means that XSane does not support any scanners itself."

http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/xsane-os2.htm

direct link to the binary-package:

http://home.tiscalinet.de/fbakan/xsane/xsane-0.96-OS2.zip

Prerequesites: XServer (XFree86 or HOBX11) and a working libsane.dll If
you want to use it as gimp-plugin you need gimp122 ;-)

Thanks to Oliver Rauch, the Author of XSane for his support.

Bye,
Franz

SW: PyOpenOffice 0.2: Process OpenOffice.org Writer Files ...

28 Sep 2004 20:19:49 -0500

From: "Gregory L. Marx"

Here's an interesting sounding addition for OpenOffice.
As sent to the OpenOffice [dev] mailing list:

PyOpenOffice 0.2: Process OpenOffice.org Writer Files and transform them
to PDF without installing OpenOffice.org

What is PyOpenOffice?
* It is a class library, written in the Python Language.
* It is a platform-independent command-line utility (many abilities
of the commandline interface are still missing)

What can do PyOpenOffice do for you?
* Make serial letters, database reports etc. from templates in the
SXW-Format and store them anew as SXW-Files
* Replace pictures - generate catalogues, worksheets, photo
galleries etc. from an SXW-Template
* Extract the pure text information from the SXW-Document and store
it in a plain text file or a PDF-File
* Perform simple transformations from SXW-Files to PDF-Files without
installing OO - for example on a webserver

What license has PyOpenOffice?
* It is distributed under the GNU Public License

What software is required?
* Any operating system that supports the following software:
* Python 2.3 (maybe it works form 2.1 upwards, but this is not
recommended) for the SXW-Processing
* The ReportlabToolkit and the Python Imaging Library for the
transformation from SXW to PDF
* OpenOffice.org for viewing and editing the templates
* The PyOpenOffice-Zip-Package

Homepage: http://www.bezirksreiter.de/PyOpenOffice.htm

There you also find a "Live"-version to test it without installing. I am
looking forward to your feedback.

SW: NVU-0.41

28 Sep 2004 20:05:20 -0500

Forwarded message from Peter Weilbacher on Tue, 28 Sep 2004 09:30:40 UTC
News://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2

Hi all,

I managed to create a build of NVU version 0.41 (based on Mozilla 1.7.3),
the next generation of the Mozilla composer, see <http://www.nvu.com/>.
Contrary to the Mozilla composer it is not integrated with the Suite but a
standalone application like Firefox, so you probably have to use the
tricks from Steve's webpage to get it working in parallel to other Mozilla
apps.

It's not (yet) linked on my webpage, so please download it directly from
<http://www.dur.ac.uk/p.m.weilbacher/Peter/nvu-os2-0.41-1.7.3.zip> [10.4
MiB]. If you can test this especially in relation to the official Windows
and/or Linux versions from nvu.com, to find out if any errors are OS/2
only, that would be great. (Myself, I don't work with GUI webpage editors
but prefer typing by hand...)

--
Cheers, Peter. Please reply in newsgroup. If you have
to mail me, use mozilla at Weilbacher.org

SW: Mr. Message (AIM client) 9/27/2004 update

27 Sep 2004 10:37:49 -0500

Forwarded message from Marty on Mon, 27 Sep 2004
08:39:39 UTC Posted on: comp.os.os2.apps

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable of
communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR
protocol (used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, gAIM, Kopete, ICQ, and
a variety of other clients).

It has been updated with the following changes:

* Multimedia sub-system is now loaded at run-time. Systems without
MMPM/2 installed should now be able to run this software.
* Error detection was enhanced to recognize "temporarily unavailable"
messages for ICQ users.
* Fixed the global settings so that they always propagate to your
current sessions as soon as they are changed.
* Fixed the automatic requesting of the user profile when a user
comes back from the "away" state.
* Fixed the lack of an "arrival" sound when a user goes from the
offline state directly to the "away" state.
* Fixed a crash when a session has ended and the user then chooses
to edit the session settings.
* Fixed a potential crash when the same session is launched after
it has been ended.
* Fixed a minor memory leak when a session object is deleted.
* Fixed a minor drawing glitch when the user right-clicks on a
container item (leaving some dashed outline where the menu used
to be).

You can download it here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_bin_09272004.zip
or with the full source code here:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage_srcbin_09272004.zip

Please read the README file before running or asking for support. As
always, feedback is appreciated.
