SW: Bluebottle spam protection

23 Oct 2004 19:37:46

From: Marcus de Geus

Hi all,

After posting a message (announcing the release of RexxSeek) to this
list yesterday, I received a couple of Bluebottle messages asking me to
click a link so that my @ddress could be added to the intended
recipient's unblock list, which I did, feeling generous. However, one of
the links resulted in an error message to the effect that the
verification code had expired (within 24 hours?) and could I resend the
message (nope).

Perhaps anyone intending to use Bluebottle (I assume those already using
it will not be receiving this message) can look for a way to have
Bluebottle accept all messages coming through the OS2VOICE list, and any
other moderated lists they subscribe to?

Best regards,

Marcus de Geus

SW: LEDPanel 0.8.1
23 Oct 2004 03:15:20

From: Herwig Bauernfeind

LEDPanel is an OS/2 bitmap font resembling the digits (and letters) of a
LED display. While there are Type 1 and TrueType fonts out there on the
net, they all suffer from bad font rendering on OS/2.

The LEDPanel font comes for 96dpi and 120dpi system and 3 different faces:
Bold, Condensed and Normal.

Its primary purpose is to be used on digital clocks on the e/xCenter and
other kinds of panels, providing a sharp and clear display in different
styles..

What's new in the release?
! Fixed missing small z in LEDPanelBold
! Fixed D in condensed fonts (it is now different from O)

SW: RexxSeek released.

22 Oct 2004 12:01:09

From: "Marcus de Geus"

RexxSeek is now available for download from my web site:

<http://www.degeus.com/rexxseek/>

RexxSeek is a replacement program for PMseek, the file and text search
utility provided with OS/2. Unlike PMseek, RexxSeek can handle filenames
containing blank spaces. In addition, it can be called from a command
line. RexxSeek can look for (partial) file names, or for (plain) text
content in files. For every file it finds, it will create a shadow or a
(user-defined) program object in the results folder. During the search,
the title of the results folder is continously updated to reflect the
search status. If a folder named RexxSeek.FLD is placed in the RexxSeek
program directory, RexxSeek will use it as a template for the results
folder. A target folder may be specified in which to place the results
folder. If none is specified, the results folder will be placed on the
desktop.

SW: Superversion 2.0 Beta 5 (Development) is out

21 Oct 2004 22:33:34

From: JohnBijnensDESPAM@spymac.com

And here is new version of SuperVersion.
Starting from version 2 a server-client model is used.

Superversion is a multi-user distributed version control system based on
change sets. A major focus in its development is efficiency and
ease-of-use. Features include a graphical user interface, branches,
conflict detection and resolution, a history tree view, export and report
functions, CVS-compatible keyword substitution, overridable file type
autodetection and a transactional internal database.

User interface changes were made. Local and remote project management and
server administration have been unified into a single dialog. The look and
feel and fonts are now user-selectable. Diff views now show line numbers.
The data caching strategy was improved, and commits now work reliably in
offline mode. Startup files for OS/2 were added.

Net: ATMs in peril from computer worms

21 Oct 2004 04:00:18

From: dave bamford

There was an article in the Register today
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2004/10/20/atm_viral_peril/

Quote
"The new generation of Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) are migrating
from the IBM OS/2 operating system to Microsoft Windows and IP networks.
This saves costs and enhances customer services. But it also means that
ATMs are now at risk from computer worms, according to Trend Micro."

Perhaps if they had stuck with OS/2 there would be no problems from this
viral peril and this would save costs !

Why do people move from tried and tested to the trendiest? My brother rang
me this evening, he has "upgraded" to XP SP2 and now he can't boot his OS.
I have little sympathy.

Changelog:

No new entries in Changelog since the 20040820 full release. If you don't
have WVGUI already installed get the last full release -
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wvgui/wvgui20040820.zip and unzip that first
then apply this latest update. The file npwv.dll is a plugin for Mozilla.
Move that file to your Mozilla browser's plugin directory. Also note that
this latest version uses a a variation of the GCC runtime called
libc06a2.dll which is not included in the zip archive. What worked for me
was to copy the included libc06.dll to libc06a2.dll.

Have fun and hope to see you at Warpstock.

SW: New version of Larsen Commander. Now also for Windows!

17 Oct 2004 13:55:59 -0500

From: leifelDESPAM@online.no

Today (October 17 2004) Leif Erik Larsen has released
version 1.6.1 of his popular GUI file manager and
command processor, Larsen Commander.

Larsen Commander is a powerful GUI file manager and command processor
with a traditional look and feel inspired by the classic Norton Commander.
It combines the best of two very different worlds; - the command line and
the file management panels. Both available at the same time, even in
parallel while one or more commands are running in the background!

Larsen Commander is extremely useful espessially for advanced users such
as programmers and system administrators that knows the power and the
value of having the command line possibilities and the file operation
panels available at the same time and in the same shell window. In fact,
you can use Larsen Commander almost exactly the same way as you are using
the standard system shell, but with a large number of additional and
powerful features, such as the console monitor being scrollable and not
limited to those "stupid" 25 lines or so.

But Larsen Commander is not only for the advanced users. Even the novice
will find this piece of software very nice at hand. It makes the standard
file operations a play, such as copying, moving and renaming files and
directories. And of course the command line can be 100% disabled and
hidden, for those who never uses it anyway.

Larsen Commander is available at

http://home.online.no/~leifel/lcmd/index.html

Please also be aware of the open online Larsen Commander discussion forum
at

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/lcmd

This new release of Larsen Commander has a lot of fixes and improvements.
For a complete list, take a look at
