SW: SNAP Graphics 3.0 GA

15 Oct 2004 16:33:23 -0500

Forwarded message from stevewDESPAM@scitechsoft.com on Fri, 15 Oct 2004
20:06:06 UTC Posted on:
news://www1.scitechsoft.com/scitech.snap.graphics.os2

SNAP Graphics for OS/2 3.0.0 is now available:
http://www.scitechsoft.com/ftp/snap/os2/snap-os2-3.0.0.exe

Compared to RC1, this release contains a few important bugfixes; more info
can be found in the ChangeLog:
http://www.scitechsoft.com/snap2_changes.txt

Assuming nobody reports any serious bugs, there will be a formal release
announcement early next week (just in time for WarpStock!).

[Moderator note: SNAP 3.0 requires a registration or it will time out (I
believe its 21 days, but I've been a happy regustered user of SNAP and the
older SDD driver for years now).

"SciTech SNAP Graphics ENT for OS/2 Upgrade"
http://store.scitechsoft.com/product_info.php?products_id=41

Changes in 3.0.0 (build 454)
----------------------------

. Several of the Radeon chipsets have been recertified, fixing some
lockups and/or odd behavior that was reported by a few users.

. The Matrox Parhelia, P650, and P750 chipsets are now working correctly
with applications which utilize DIVE.

. All of the 24bpp OpenGL tests now display correctly.

. Zooming was broken on the VBE driver; fixed.

Changes in 3.0.0 RC1 (build 453)
--------------------------------

. Added full acceleration support for the Intel i915G (Grantsdale) and
Intel i852/855 laptop chipsets. Note that the i915G video BIOS may be
limited to 1024x768 when running on DVI; this is fixed by Intel's
VBIOS build 3398.

. Added full acceleration support for the ATI Radeon IGP 320M, Mobility
Radeon 7000 IGP, Mobility Radeon 9000 IGP, and Radeon 9100 Pro IGP.

. Added support for an additional PCI ID for the Radeon 9600 Series to
support the Radeon 9600 SE, and the Radeon 9600 XT is now certified
separately. Renamed the "Radeon 9200" driver to "Radeon 9200 Series"
to indicate that it supports the 9200, 9200 Pro, and 9200 SE.

. Added support for the Silicon Motion LynxEM chipset (CRT output;
LCD output may not be working correctly for all modes).

. DDC monitor detection is now working correctly on the Nvidia NForce
and NForce2 integrated graphics chipsets.

. DDC monitor detection is now working correctly on the ATI Rage XL,
Rage LT Pro, and Rage Mobility graphics chipsets. Newer variants
of the Rage XL now have higher resolutions available as well.

. The VBE 3.0 driver now detects when it is running on a digital panel,
and disables refresh rate control, which was causing display failures.

. DDC detection via the BIOS now works for chipsets which don't have
native DDC support, such as the VBE drivers.

. Mapped out some high refresh rates that caused lockups on some
Trident 975 cards. The Trident 985 has also been recertified.

. The i810/i815 driver was failing in OS/2 command line boot; fixed.

From: dsbrainDESPAM@neosplice.com

I'd like to get this announcment to as many people as possible so we can
get some members and have some interesting discussions. I saw a need for
this group due to much complaining about off-topic posts involving
alternative op systems other than the one the group was formed for
discussing. Just about anything (short of SPAM or personal threats) will
be tolerated in this new group if it involves or affects an alternative
(non-Win32) operating system. Please pass this along to others using or
curious about using an alternative operating system.

Thank you, and sincerely,
WarpDavey

URL: <http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AltOpSys/>
Name: AltOpSysDiscuss
Email: AltOpSys@Yahoo.com

Description: This is a group for the discussion of using an alternative
(non-Win32) operating system including DOS, OS/2, Linux, BeOS and others.
Specifically I'd like to see news on the legal & political ramifications
of these operating systems. This is not a technically-oriented group
although practical tips on getting by without or alongside Microsoft
operating systems can be included. Please join up and participate.

I'm leaving this unmoderated for the time being but if the privilege is
mis-used that will change. Flames are tolerated and to be somewhat
expected in a group such as this as long as they remain non-threatening.
All personal threats & spam will be deleted and the member suspended or
banned.

Play fun!

SW: unixODBC Updated to v0.6

14 Oct 2004 09:14:33 -0500

From: lsunleyDESPAM@mb.sympatico.ca

I have released the sixth version of unixODBC for OS/2

The file unixodbc006.zip is on Hobbes <http://hobbes.nmsu.edu>

The database drivers included in this release are:

- Flat text files (comma delimited ASCII)
- Flat DBF file
- postgreSQL database
- mySQL database
- FreeTDS (Sybase and MS SQL Server)

Package Contents:

- driver manager (ODBC.DLL)
- installation API (ODBCCP.DLL)
- cursor library (ODBCCR.DLL)
- mySQL client library (libmysqC.dll)
- mySQL database driver and client (myODBC3.DLL libmysqC.dll)
- postgreSQL database driver (psqlODBC.dll)
- text file driver (ODBCtxt.dll ODBCtxtS.dll)
- DBF file driver (ODBCdbf.dll ODBCdbfS.dll)
- TDS database driver (ODBCtds.dll)
- PM ODBC Data Manager
- PM SQL Query
- RexxSQL modules for ODBC (RexxSQL and RexxODBC)
- Sample databases for text and DBF drivers
- Sample Rexx programs
- GCC 3.2.2 runtime (LIBC05.DLL)

Suggestions:

When using databases on your local network and you do not
have a local DNS (Domain Name Server) you should have
SET USE_HOSTS_FIRSTS=Y
in the config.sys file and have your HOSTS file in \mptn\etc
updated with the IP number to host names.

The myODBC3 driver and the FreeTDS driver have a very long
timeout for DNS lookups and your system will appear to lock up until the
DNS lookup times out and the local HOSTS file is checked unless you have
USE_HOSTS_FIRST specified

Fixes:
Update 006

- PMODBCDM program would fail if drivermanager DLL was loaded by Star
Office
- mySQL driver did not load driver defaults when no DSN was present in
connection string

Update 005

- The postgreSQL driver set SQL_DATETIME as an "unknown" data type
- The mySQL driver set SQL_DATETIME as an "unknown" data type

Update 004

- The postgreSQL driver now works with StarOffice 5.1
- The postgreSQL driver SQLTables function now works correctly
this was causing the ODBC Data Manager to fetch multiple copies
of the tables and schemas
- The mySQL driver now works with StarOffice 5.1
the field column layouts for catalog, stats, primary keys, etc did
not match the layout expected by the libmysqC routines.

Update 003

- change install layout to place drivers in \uodbc\dll
corrects problem where dialog boxes for configuration would
not display for some drivers

- correct failure when testing connection for a new mySQL DSN

Improvements:

Update 004

- PostgreSQL ODBC driver now has a new configuration GUI and there is also
a GUI for configuring the driver defaults "Add" and "Configure" on the
drivers page of the ODBC Administration notebook. The driver has been
rebuilt to support ODBC version 3.00 (was 2.5) All trace options are built
into the driver.

- mySQL ODBC driver now has a new configuration GUI and there is also a
GUI for configuring the driver defaults "Add" and "Configure" on the
drivers page of the ODBC Administration notebook. The driver and the
libmysqc library have been built with trace support and the trace file
used can be specified on the "Trace" page. When you specify a driver
letter the colon ":" must be doubled as in "C::/odbclog/mytrace.log"

Update 003:

- RexxSQL has been added to the package. RexxSQL.dll and RexxODBC.dll are
installed to the package DLL directory and the RexxSQL.exe and
RexxODBC.exe are installed to the BIN directory. These versions of the
programs are specific to a 3.0 level of ODBC driver manager. A Sample Rexx
program has been added to the SAMPLES directory. The web site for RexxSQL
is http://rexxsql.sourceforge.net

- A fix has been made to the myODBC3 driver. The driver catalog functions
did not return the correct size for some columns in the table and column
catalogs.

- FreeTDS database driver for Sybase and MS SQL server has been added to
the package. This driver is based on the 0.62.4 FreeTDS code and will be
updated to the latest code in the near future. The current driver version
uses .conf files for some configuration information. The files are
installed to \uodbc\configure.
The web site for FreeTDS is http://www.freetds.org
This is an beta driver - it works but not for everything.

Update 002:

The PM SQL Query window now provides for:
- load and save of query text to files
- saving query results to a command delimited text file
- prompting for user name and password when not present in the DSN

The PM ODBC Data Manager now provides for:
- prompting for user name and password when not present in the DSN

The package includes a port of the version 4 mySQL client library. This
library is named libmysqC.dll and should not interfere if you have a local
mySQL database installation. This library is compiled with GCC 3.2.2.
Thanks to all those people who did the port of the mySQL database to OS/2.

Known Problems:

- RexxSQL does not work properly with the ODBCtxt and ODBCdbf drivers
The problem is in the drivers, they have to be enhanced to support
the functionality required by RexxSQL

Changes in the pipeline:

- make SQLDriverConnect work properly

- improvements to the PM ODBC Data Manager to allow you create
tables in the database with "point and click" interface.

- data transfer utility that lets you move tables and data from one
DSN to another.

Feel free to e-mail me with comments or problems.

SW: MR/2 ICE 2.60b Has Been Released

14 Oct 2004 07:18:16 -0500

From: "Sander Nyman"

MR/2 ICE 2.60a has been released. Available here:

Download: http://mr2ice.secant.com/nick/mr2i260b.zip

Website: http://www.mr2ice.com/

"MR/2 ICE is a feature-packed Internet EMail client. Both POP3 and SMTP
are fully supported. Configurability is taken to an extreme. MR/2 ICE lets
the user select from many options, including optional pieces of the user
interface. You'll find things like toolbars and status bars configurable,
even to the point of hiding them."

Changes in v2.60a:

*Memory leak plugged. Was leaking memory every time a status bar messages
was updated.

*Pop3 user name now compatible with Win32 updates and can be up to 90
characters (for spam-blocking proxy tools).

*Thesaurus path builder adjusted. And, a couple of log file entries added
to aid in debugging loading issues.

*EXPERIMENTAL: To aid in experimenting with the Time Zone issue, I added
a configuration flag. But I was too lazy to try and fit it onto the 6th
settings page; it wouldn't be an easy fit and it's too late in the evening
to add page 7! So, to see if this does the trick, I've added a
(temporary!) command line switch:

/TZ+ tells MR/2 to adjust the TZ for DST (default)

/TZ- attempts no adjustment for DST. This will work in the cases where
the eCS clock does the adjustment, AND for those cases where the region
doesn't follow DST at all, and MR/2's adjustment assumes it does.

*Search text persistent across folders.

*News client obscure socket crash fixed.

*More.

SW: eComStation 1.2 sold out at BMT Micro

13 Oct 2004 12:35:30 -0500

From: Jack Troughton

Hi folks!

This is a quick note to let you know that, due to overwhelming demand,
we've sold out the first run of eComStation 1.2 at BMT Micro.

New media has been ordered, and should arrive late next week. In the
meantime, we've reinstituted the pre-order form that we used in the run
up to the release of eComStation 1.2. This means that if you order now,
your credit card will not be charged until the media arrives and is ready
to be shipped to you.

We wanted to make sure that everyone knew exactly what the situation was,
and we'd like to thank all the people who have ordered
eComStation 1.2.

Thanks a lot, and have a great day!

Regards,

Jack Troughton

SW: Superversion 2.0 Beta 4 (Development) is out

11 Oct 2004 09:07:51 -0500

From: John.BijnensDESPAM@celkunststoffen.khlim.be

Superversion is a multi-user distributed version control system based on
change sets. A major focus in its development is efficiency and
ease-of-use. Features include a graphical user interface, branches,
conflict detection and resolution, a history tree view, export and report
functions, CVS-compatible keyword substitution, overridable file type
autodetection and a transactional internal database.

This release has major feature enhancements.

Synchronization is now much faster and truly atomic even over unreliable
connections. File type patterns can be imported and exported as a text
file. The history of marker movements can be inspected. Commits typically
require fewer mouse clicks. A number of small bugs have been fixed; most
notably, large files in the work area no longer cause an out of memory
exception. The application's total download size has decreased.

As you might guess from the number of announcements you could read the
last few weeks, this application is surely under active development.
