Net: Solutions based on OS/2 & eCS

10 Apr 2004 16:00:38 -0500

From: egDESPAM@ecomstation.ru

Many companies conceal the fact that they are using OS/2 or eCS in their
business. This position is ubnormal. OS/2 grows quickly and we don't have
reasons to be ashamed. It's time to support OS/2 developers and solution
creators!

If you have succesful story about OS/2 usage then send it to
www.ecomstation.ru/solutions site (we can publish text on any language).

Note Aaron added in a later post:

"And so it seems that there is another bug if you don't do a full
install, it complains at startup that it cannot initialise help.

Can someone please confirm if this problem occurs even with a full
install? One person emailed to say that it occurs, even after a full
install and reboot, which I find hard to believe.

Anyway, I am away for 3 weeks at least, so this will not be fixed within
a month at the least. I will also not be reading this newsgroup or my
home email.

So frustrating. And people wonder why more free software isn't
available."

SW: New JFS (20040409) on IBM Testcase FTP

09 Apr 2004 19:28:58 -0500

From: "Mark Dodel"

A new JFS driver on IBM's Testcase FTP site:
< ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2/jfs20040409.zip >

From the JFS Readme:

2004/04/09 bldlevel 14.098c
- performance work on transaction manager

[Moderator note: As always these are not officially supported by IBM
unless they tell you to use them.

**** Please send any followup to comp.os.os2.bugs on usenet. ****

Also note that files are only on IBM's testcase for 2-3 days, so if you
want to try these get them now. Make certain you back up any files
replaced and don't try these on a production system. Read any readme file
before applying any changes. If your system is working well, and you have
no problems addressed by these updates, do yourself a favour and don't
mess with this. You have been warned.]

Java Plug-In support for Mozilla and IBM Web Browser for OS/2

eCS: eComStation Roadmap

08 Apr 2004 14:24:25 -0500

From: jkacerDESPAM@kiv.zcu.cz

On April 5 2004, the Serenity Systems company published a document called
"eComStation Roadmap", announcing eComStation 1.2, which should be
available by the end of 2004.

New in v. 1.2 (just a selection): InnoTek Web Pack (Java, Font Engine,
Flash, Acrobat Reader 5.1), new system editor, new NTFS and MiniLVM,
support for wireless and gigabit networks, Serial ATA support, new TCP/IP
and firewall configuration tools, HobLink X11 as a part of eCS Entry
(!!!), CD burning software RSJ, ...

Open Office 1.1.1 will be a part of the Application Pack 1.2. The
Application Pack 1.2 will be available as a standalone product, without
the need to buy eCS Entry first. There will be an "upgrade" from InnoTek
OO licence to the Application Pack 1.2.

At the end of the document, there is a mention about a significant new
release of eCS (probably v. 2.0 ???). It should include bootable JFS,
multi user support, Samba server, etc.

SW: FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.2

08 Apr 2004 08:43:17 -0500

From: Herwig Bauernfeind

This is the GA release of FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.2, a freeware utility to
ease the transfer of your pictures from your digital camera to your OS/2
(eComStation) PC. The camera must be accessible from OS/2 by a
driveletter. As you might know already, this is not a device driver.

The main effort during the last weeks went into the upcoming version
1.1.0, which will have some major new features. Some of these features
that were easy to implement, were also built into the 1.0.x line of code
(hopefully without sacrificing stability and introducing new bugs).

What is new in this release?
+ Added: Check whether target file already exists and ask whether to
overwrite it or not.
+ Added: Files ending with .JPEG (opposed to ending with .JPG) are
also recognized as JPG files.
* Changed: Progress is based on filesize not on number of files anymore.

What was fixed in this release?
! Fixed: If only .AVI's were present on the camera,
FotoGet reported "no pictures on camera"
and some more minor items.

Support is provided on YahooGroups.
Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fotoget/ to check out!

Get FotoGet/2 from hobbes:

Hobbes Incoming: < http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/fotoget102.wpi >
Hobbes Search: < http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=fotoget >

A big thanks to everybody, who reported bugs and helped me!

Have fun,
Herwig Bauernfeind

From: "Bob St.John"
Date: Sun Apr 4, 2004 5:08 pm
Subject: SVISTA/2 Joins Early Support Program

Several weeks ago Serenity Systems International (SSI) began anEarly
Support Program (ESP) for the Serenity Virtual Station(SVISTA). The
results of the ESP have been extremely positive. In fact, 80% of the
respondents to a survey indicated that the products are nearly ready for
commercial release. SSI is now prepared to move forward with this program.

The ESP is still restricted to registered eComStation users. To
participate, users should log on to the site. At which time they will be
at http://www.ecomstation.com/ecsdb/profile.phtml and can follow the steps
to participate in the ESP (see Serenity Virtual Station Early Support
Program: » Sign up for the Early Support Program

This week, (April 4), Serenity Systems is adding the first drop of the
OS/2 - eComStation host version of this product, SVISTA/2 (note, this is
early release, time limited software). Later this week we will also be
updating the Linux host. The Windows host is still available. Later this
week we may add the FreeBSD host, as well.

By the end of the month it is likely we will move this programto a public
beta. Depending of the performance of the beta program, we look forward to
delivering product this summer.
