SW: FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.7

16 Apr 2005 07:54:31

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Herwig Bauernfeind

This is the general availability release of FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.7, a
freeware utility to ease the transfer of your pictures from your digital
camera to your eComStation (or OS/2) PC. The camera must be accessible
from eCS (OS/2) by a driveletter. As you might know already, this is not
a device driver.

This is the final release of FotoGet/2 Version 1.0.x. All future efforts
will go into Version 2, which already exists in parts.

What is new in this release?
- Finally FotoGet/2 comes with its own folder background
- Option to transfer pictures into the basefolder instead of the
subfolders
- Commandline options: /NOSUBFOLDER:ON|OFF parameter

What was changed in this release?
- /NLSdump creates languagefile with the expected name for a language
file instead of CURRENT.INI.

What was fixed in this release?
- Activate NConvert installation per default
- Enhanced dutch translation (thanks to Jan van der Heide and Menno
Tillema)
- Once more a double \\ removed...

Support is provided on YahooGroups.
Visit http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fotoget/ to check!

Get FotoGet/2 from hobbes:

Hobbes Incoming: <http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/fotoget107.wpi>
Hobbes Search: <http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=fotoget>

A big "thank you" goes to everybody, who reported bugs and helped me!

Have fun and happy photographing,

SW: PM Disk Monitor 1.0 (was Re: Beta app - PM Disk Monitor)

15 Apr 2005 20:34:28

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

Forwarded message from "Trevor Hemsley" on Fri, 15 Apr 2005 20:32:09 UTC
Posted on: comp.os.os2.utilities

I'm going to call this cooked and have uploaded v1.0 to hobbes as
dskmon10.zip (ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/dskmon10.zip).

The app uses hooks in DANIS506.ADD to gather statistics about the i/o
done to IDE disks. Source is included. It'll ask DaniS506.ADD about the
S.M.A.R.T. status of the disks and display the result.

Displays: Number of reads, number of writes, KB/s Read, KB/s Write,
number of errors and SMART status. Temperature is reported if Andrew
Belov's Smartmon 1.55 is installed and if at least one drive supports
temperature reporting.

Feedback welcome, bug reports less so :-)

SW: Pronews 1.54 released

15 Apr 2005 07:12:02

From: "Trevor Hemsley"

I'm pleased to announce the release of Pronews/2 v1.54.

Pronews/2 is a multithreaded NNTP Newsreader program for OS/2. This
release fixes bugs and adds some new features.

Before installing this release, you are strongly urged to make backup
copies of your existing filter files (.\pronews\headers\*.FLT and
..\pronews\global.FLT) as this release has changed the on-disk format of
these files. If you need to revert to an older release of Pronews/2 then
you will need to restore these backup copies prior to starting the older
release for the first time. Failure to do this will leave you filterless
if you have to revert to an older release!

You can find Pronews/2 1.54 on ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming (later
to be ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/news/reader) as
pn2v154.zip.

Pronews/2 is shareware and all profits from its sale are donated to the
charity Save the Children.

New features and important changes
==================================
1) Single Window mode is no longer an option. There was a serious design
problem in this code and it had to be disabled.

2) There's a new 'Stop after current operation' option on the popup menu
for a connection to a server. This allows you to have a connection finish
its current download before it stops.

3) You can now search the body text of retrieved articles within a
newsgroup.

4) ISO-8859-15 and Windows-1252 codepage support. In addition, posts made
with Outlook[-Express] omit the correct header to set the default
codepage to Windows-1252 and Pronews will set it for these posts
automatically.

5) Pronews/2 will now checkpoint its task queue every time it has a task
added or removed. In the event of a crash it's now possible to recover
the queue as it was at the time of the crash. This requires action to
implement and instructions are in the readme file.

6) Pronews now keeps 10 copies of its log file but you can control how
large they are via an environment variable. Minimum size per log file,
100KB, max, 2GB-1. The oldest log files are aged off when 10 already
exist. More info in the readme file.

7) Better Mozilla/Firefox/Thunderbird support. Pronews/2 will now search
the PATH for Mozilla and add that path to the libpath for the current
process. More info in the readme file.

8) You may now filter on the content of the XRefs: line and filter posts
based on the selection of newsgroups to which they have been crossposted.
For example, you can use this to find posts that are crossposted to
*advocacy*. More info in the readme file.

9) New filter file format. A design problem in the filter files meant
that no individual filter could be more than 255 characters. This wasn't
enough when a subject line on its own could be that long. Each filter can
now be 32KB in size.

10) High memory support. Pronews now uses high memory on releases of OS/2
that support this. With VIRTUALADDRESSLIMIT=1536 in config.sys I have
successfully been able to open and process a single group containing more
than 1.2 million articles.

11) Pronews now tokenizes filters on first use and will use the tokenised
copy on subsequent uses of the same filter. Gives a ~30% increase in
filtering speed.

12) New switches '-noid' and '-noua' have been added to pronews.exe
parameters. These allow suppression of the message-id and User-Agent
lines in posts made by you.

13) The maximum number of parts in a multipart decode has been changed
from 2048 to an unlimited number.

14) Per server download statistics are now kept and displayed on the
Pronews Control Panel. These counts can be reset to zero from the popup
menu for each server. Useful for those of us on metered News server
subscriptions.

There are several other enhancements listed in the readme file. Details of
all 100 bugs fixed are listed in the fixed.txt file.

Some of these changes need user action in order to take effect. Details of
the action required are in the readme file.

Enjoy.

Changes:

v1.2.1b Beta Rev. 04/14/2005

* Fixed Logging; the installation logs should now only be in

The previous version created eratic "0" log files throughout the Theme

* A New Option has been created to fix the eratic "0" log files that were
created
in the Theme Folders:

Version 1.2b was the only known version to have this problem.
If you installed v1.2b prior...you need to run Install at the command

SW: RexxMail build 20050413.201133 released.

13 Apr 2005 15:59:30

From: "Marcus de Geus"

A new build of RexxMail is available from my web site:

<http://www.degeus.com/rexxmail/>

RexxMail is an object-oriented WPS e-mail client, written in REXX, which
uses the standard WPS user interface. It features an extensive range of
functions and options with full command-line access.

Changes:

- Bug fix: Long quoted-printable lines with '=' at the wrong point could
cause an endless loop in the word-wrap function (bug introduced in build
20050322.141155).

- Changed AddressImport function: no argument opens Addresses folder.

- Added KeepShadow setting.

Best regards,

Marcus de Geus

SW: New game for OS/2 & eCs from Kim Foder

11 Apr 2005 16:31:04

From: kimDESPAM@DESPAMfoder.dk

Hi

For some time (on and off), I have been working on a game inspired by the
old Sherlock game for dos.

Now I'm far enough in the development to want some external input, so I
have uploaded a late alpha / early beta version to my home page :
http://hjem.tele2adsl.dk/kimfoder under programs.

As this is fairly early in the development, the program does not have any
name yet, until now it's called ? (or q for (q)uestionmark).

The game is one of logic deduction, and are (at least in the original
version) very addictive !

The game play should be in order, but the graphics is somewhat unfinished

If you try the game, please let me know what you think.

If you find any errors or has any suggestions please let me know too.

SW: FFMpeg 0.49.pre compiled for OS/2

11 Apr 2005 08:31:19

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,
This is a quick compile of FFMpeg 0.49.pre based on a pull from the CVS
archive on 10th April, 2005.

This is compiled with Innotek GCC 3.3.5 beta 4.

For those that don't know ffmpeg is a tool that can be used to quickly
convert video/audio from one format to another.

Note that this build currently only supports the formats that are natively
supported by ffmpeg - it is possible to compile it with support for other
codecs like xvid - but I haven't been successful in this yet.

This has not been extensively tested - but I have successfully converted
some AVIs to Mpeg.

Please send any feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info

File is currently at
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/ffmpeg-os2-0.49pre.zip and should be
1,219,091 bytes.

hobbes search:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=ffmpeg-os2-0.49pre.zip

Cheers,

Paul.
