SNES9x is an emulator for Nintendo's 16 bit home gaming console, the Super Nintendo. It featured sequels to most of the games that the 8 bit Nintendo made famous, as well as having some new gems of its own. Through the magic of Scitech's Multiplatform Graphics Library (MGL), this gaming experience can now be brought natively to OS/2 users.

The OS/2 port of SNES9x has been updated with the latest changes from the official source tree bringing the core up to revision 1.32 (the former release was based on version 1.29 of the code).

Here's what's new and different:
* Core update fixed bugs in several games (Battletoads is one of them)
* Now using an assembly SPC700 core (faster!)
* Completely reworked frameskip algorithm (faster for machines that required frameskipping)

Requirements:
* SDDHELP.SYS build 113 or higher (included)
* DART support
* EMX .9d runtime libraries

The EmuOS/2 web page is currently still down, but I didn't let that postpone the release. You can grab this version from Hobbes at the following link:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/snes9x_132_os2_r4.zip

And after it is moved out of /pub/incoming, you can find it here:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/emulator/snes9x_132_os2_r4.zip

Please read the included ReadMe.OS2 file thoroughly. Send comments and bug reports to mamedev@stny.rr.com, and look for a release of MGL MAME for OS/2 soon!

I've finally brought up my new site for all OS/2 users that consider themselves "home users" at:

http://www.duo2.com

The site goes over topics that are important to people that like games and news you can use with OS/2 and the new eComStation. There are several links and a growing section of games for OS/2 (DOS, OS/2, JAVA, and XFREE86). I'm also working on a section for programs in OS/2 which has pictures and ratings. I'm taking over some program development for a program called

OS/2 Gamers' Guide

This is THE utility for running DOS games, and in my opinion should be the first thing you get before trying to run DOS games. It uses a relational database to store information on almost every DOS game around, and that information includes:Game Icon, Game Settings, Notes on how the game runs under OS/2, Maker of the Game, General game information, including FAQs in some cases, and Game executable and parameter information.

Check out the site out... I'm sure you'll want to bookmark it. I'll be working on it non stop. So Email me if you have suggestions.

I have placed a curve fitting program on Hobbes.

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/new/parambspline2_0.zip

The program will eventually be at:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/analysis/parambspline2_0.zip

ParamBSpline2: A program to generate a smooth curve from sequential points in n-dimensional data. It can be used to:

Smooth a set of data
Insert additional points between existing points
Reduce the number of data points
Obtain estimates at fixed intervals
Obtain estimates at specified points.

This is a program of use to scientists, engineers and others who must modeldata. The program does not suffer from the most common limitations of curve fitting programs. For example:

The data values do not need to satisfy a monotonicity requirement. In other words a given X may have more than one Y value. See the illustration in the zip file. The closeness of fit is controllable several ways. Ouput spacing is flexible. The program is operating system independent. It uses only ANSII standard REXX.

Documentation in OS/2 and .html formats are provided. The highly commented and the source code is included in the package.

I have rewritten it from scratch based on Daniel's original code. Beta 1 is available for anybody who wants to test it. This is a version which should still work with all existing software. Future versions will hopefully allow multilpe processes to access the driver simultaneously. Feedback please to aspirout@orac.clara.co.uk.

I have placed the final version of Digitize2 in Hobbes. In a little while I will get the source code up there also.

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/graphics/scan/Digitize3_20.zip

It will eventually get to leo, when it comes up again. The program now does everything I hoped to achieve when I started. If there is something else that someone wants we will have to discuss it. Again, I thank those who helped test it and gave feed back.

This release incorporates smoothing and resampling based on parametric bsplines. It also uses the SFX installer.

Digitize2 lets you digitize and measure distances from an image using your mouse. You can zoom in and pan around the expanded image. I use it to convert old technical data published in journals to a digital form as well as digitize maps. The output is ASCII. A DXF and IDRISI export facility is also provided.

Digitize2 addresses the special problems inherent in this type of work. First, it is rather easy to scan the printed material, but getting it aligned accurately is a nuisance. Second, many scanners and certainly most zerographic reproductions are not uniformly scaled. Therefore, Digitize2 by default corrects for rotated images and it does a linear correction for scale distortions. Digitize2 allows the user to also edit the image. This will be done automatically during digitizing or optionally using the various paint tools available. This can greatly simplify keeping track of progress when working on complex imagery. Finally, you can move digitized points, link to existing lines and generate smoothed lines using a very powerful bspline algorithm.

The source code for Star Office "6.0" is now available from:

http://www.openoffice.org

Currently, the web page and all the servers are overloaded.

According to some Sun employees, Sun never updated the OS/2 portions of the source code past 5.1a, but they are supposedly still in 6.0. The problem is finding a compiler that will compile under OS/2. Rumor has it that Sun tried to compile the code with VAC 4.0, but couldn't get it to work.

There is a team of FreeBSD developers currently working on HPUFS - High Performance Universal File System. This team has expressed a wish to have some OS/2 developers with them, to develop a OS/2 version of the filesystem in parallel with the FreeBSD version. The "Universal" part of the name reflects this - the filesystem is designed to be multi-platform, and has VERY many nice features both for this use and other things. From what I've seen, it's a very unique thing, taking the best from JFS, HPFS, and certain other unix filesystems, plus adding some never-seen-before things.

I therefore ask: Are there anyone reading this who would be interested in contributing?

If so, contact me at: ltning@anduin.net

I had updated the OS/2 Emulation Site with the next news:

- KEGS (an Apple II Emulator) had been updated by Christian Hennecke to version 0.60
- Darrel Spice had updated Master Gear/2 to version 1.3.0.
- Darrel Spice had also changed the Master Gear/2 Web site to:

http://home.houston.rr.com/spiceware/mastergear.htm

- Also Darrel is going to update Stella/2 soon, and Its going to make a new emulator release for OS/2... wait for it.

If there are any programmers interested in porting any kind of emulator to OS/2 you can visit the "Request" Area of the site. There are a lot of ideas of what to port. Many people had request for an Atari ST emulator for example.

If you have any other OS/2 Emulator request let me know so I can add it my web site.

thanks

Just in time for Warpstock Europe, WarpIN and XWorkplace have both been updated to V0.9.5. Both updates are mostly for bugfixing.

1. WarpIN V0.9.5 has been released.

WarpIN is intended to become the new universal OS/2 installer. It is becoming more and more popular among OS/2 developers because of its flexibility and ease of use. It has full system configuration (CONFIG.SYS, WPS classes, WPS objects) and can fully undo all the changes to your system again. This is mainly a maintenance release.

2. XWorkplace V0.9.5 is out also.

XWorkplace is the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer on the planet, and even better, it is open source. XWorkplace is the successor to my popular XFolder utility and has become a Netlabs project.

In addition to the well-known WPS enhancements added by XFolder already, we now have a trash can, more CONFIG.SYS settings, most of the features of WarpEnhancer, mouse-button-3 scrolling, improved WPS notebook settings pages, a much better "WPS Class List", full sound schemes support in the "Sound" object, and much more.

This new version finally attempts to fix the problems with XShutdown and INI files. Besides, object hotkeys should work now.

To install XWorkplace, I recommend using the latest WarpIN also.

See my home page for detailed information and download addresses:

http://www2.rz.hu-berlin.de/~h0444vnd/os2.htm

WarpIN and XWorkplace are Netlabs projects, released under the GNU General Public Licence. The source code is available on the Netlabs CVS server. See www.netlabs.org/nosa and my home page for details.

We have created four mailing lists at http://www.egroups.com

-- warpin-user
-- warpin-dev
-- xworkplace-user
-- xworkplace-dev

for WarpIn and XWorkplace users and developers, respectively.

We are grateful for feedback on these mailing lists.

Note: If you have linked to the above address of my home page, please update your links to point to xworkplace.netlabs.org and warpin.netlabs.org instead, because my home page will change in the near future.

Have fun!

Ulrich Moeller

PS: If you want to learn more about WPS programming, come to Warpstock Europe. I'll be doing a presentation about WPS and especially XWorkplace programming.
