Donate a copy of eCS to Mrs. Ballmer! ;)

Subject: Donate a copy of eCS to Mrs. Ballmer! ;)

Hi folks,

just ROTFL because of what I read today in german newspaper "die zeit" (times) online news: M$'s Steve Ballmer complains about XP being too difficult to use for his wife!! According to the news, he's in search of the "finally right PC" for his spouse...

Well, heck! If Bob St. John could dig out Mrs. Ballmers e-mail adress, I'd gladly donate my copy of eCS to her so she can check out what *real* operating systems are about. :)=)

Unfortunately I couldn't find an english version of that news, so the URL is only for german readers, I'm afraid. Have fun anyway!

New StHWMon/StHealth

I've release a new build of my StHWMon/StHealth package.

StHWMon/StHealth is a hardware monitoring tool with GUI and REXX support for eCS and OS/2. It shows information about various sensors on your motherboard including fan speeds, temperatures and voltages. You can set up "events" for every input sensor enabling system shutdown/reboot, cool down your CPU (with VIA chipsets). If you've installed viaapm.sys (part of the 8233Cool package) it uses this driver to enable/disable CPU throttling dynamically to cool down your CPU. The package also includes a widget for XWorkplace.

New pricing for UPS Monitor for OS/2 and eCS

New pricing options are now in effect for UPS Monitor.

While all three versions were available for the single price of $15.00, individual versions are now available at $6.50 each.

smart signaling, APC simple signaling and generic contact closure UPSes. Over 20 UPS models from various vendors are supported and UPS Monitor is verified to work properly with these uninterruptible power supplies.

The new individual purchasing option is only available through Paypal. The regular UPS Monitor purchasing option for all three programs will continue to be available through Paypal and BMT Micro.

We would like to thank the OS/2 and eCS community for their continued support. Registrations are making it possible to continue UPS Monitor development to support and verify new UPS models appearing on the market.

WordStar: WSformat ready for download !

Hello,

the first public WSformat version 0.81 is finished and ready for download. 11 years after publishing the last Wordstar for DOS, I can offer a substitute (or a successor?) Simply try it and decide.

The last month, I had a lot of hard work. I strongly hope that WSformat does not only fit my own purpose!

Windows version (Win98, NT or later) http://www.vr-transport.de/Martin/archiv/wsf-win.zip

If you have got Win95, please try it anyway and report problems. On my Win95 system, I have got problems with fonts, but this can be specific to my installation.

OS/2 version (ecS, Warp 3 or later) http://www.vr-transport.de/Martin/archiv/wsf-os2.zip

Your comments and bug reports are strongly recommended. I have NOT published this program via Internet. This mailinglist is the only platform where I have shipped this information. In some weeks, I publish 0.82 where I implement your comments and fix the bugs you have reported.

---- Program description ------

WSformat is a formatting and printing program for Wordstar (DOS) files. WSedit and WSformat together are a full-featured word processing suite, running under current operating systems, but based on the Wordstar DOS philosophy ('what you see is what you want' and not 'what you see is what you get'). Nevertheless, WSformat does have a provision for document preview.

Wordstar Compatiblity: WSformat accepts all Wordstar (DOS) files, but does not support all Wordstar DOS functions, i.e., those which were added after Wordstar Version 4. Instead, some extended functions (such as generating tables of contents or handling footnotes) are implemented in a WSformat-specific way. Basic Wordstar 5-7 'symmetrical sequences' are recognized (indentions, for example).

WSformat is Shareware and WSedit is Freeware.

WSformat supports hyphenation, the creation of end notes and footnotes, generation of tables of contents and indexes, line drawing, embedding graphics in text and allows conditional statements. In contrast to the older versions of DOS Wordstar, document preview and printing use functions provided by the Windows (or OS/2) operating systems. This means you have access to the printers and type fonts which are installed on the operating system.

The WSformat command syntax is very similar to that of Hypermake. From a WS file, Hypermake will generate an equivalent file in RTF, Winhelp, HTML, IBM Help or Microsoft HTML-Help format.
