Sundial Systems, http://www.sundialsystems.com,
developers of Clearlook, DBExpert, JunkSpy, Mesa2, Relish and RoverPack will be
our guests and they have planned a night of fun and prizes!!!
It's time to put on those thinking caps and get ready for a chance to win valuable
prizes and discounts on Sundial products -- just in time for the holiday gift giving
season!
The entire chat will focus on a series 15 questions (some from past Warped Jeopardy
events, some from past VOICE chats, some entirely new) related to OS/2, VOICE, Sundial
Systems, and other timely topics. Everyone will have a chance to earn points by
entering the correct answers on Sundial's website during the event. It promises
to be lots of fun and by the end you'll know a little more about OS/2 (and what
you've won as well).
So please be sure to join us for one of the last, and most exciting VOICE Speakups
of the year 2000. As always everyone is invited. If you are new to IRC (Internet
Relay Chat) then check out the VOICE Meeting Information page http://www.os2voice.org/meetinginfo.html
which gives links to some help for some OS/2 IRC clients, and a link to a web interface
for WEBBNet.
We will be trying to get the show started on time, so try to come early and get
a good seat. We wouldn't want you to miss any of the prize point opportunities.

Anyone care to guess the "Topic" of the SpeakUp? ... You're right!
eComStation!!! The SuperClient for the I'net Generation!
Now that the beta of eComStation has been out for a few weeks, we thought we'd
take this opportunity to have a real-time IRC chat session with Bob St. John and
invite those that are now using the beta and those that are just plain curious as
to what all this excitement is about to join us.
Here's an excerpt from the article in the November issue of the VOICE newsletter,
"eComStation (eCS) First Look, The Preview Edition", written by VOICE's
President, Dan Casey.
"eCS (eComStation) is essentially a new Operating System. New in the sense
that it's put together and marketed by Serenity Systems. However, it is based on
the Convenience Pak version of OS/2 Warp (Warp 4, FixPak 15 level)."
What's Wisemanager (r)? What's DeskTop On-Call? What's JFS? What's LVM?
Learn about all of the above and more .... Ask questions, make suggestions, share
your experiences with our guests or just drop by and say hi!

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this
Saturday, November 18, 2000 at 9:00 AM PST, at Grace Baptist Church in Anaheim.
"How to Get Rich in the Stock Market with OS/2"
After a year of begging and pleading by the program chairman, Peter Skye will
be showing SCOUG members his unique integrated stock market programs, based upon
his own proven algorithms, and running, of course, under OS/2.
This presentation is a must-see for day traders, and day-trading wannabees to
see how it's REALLY done to minimize risk and maximize results. Peter's integration
techniques and OS/2 make this thing work well.
After the main meeting presentation, we'll have Q&A, a raffle, and then the
Saturday SIG meetings:
General Interest Group: Carla Hanzlik will help us develop a complex document
under Clearlook (complex as in having text ~graphics & interesting formatting).
Tony Butka will then attempt the amazing feat of saving this document as a PostScript
file. Then after installing the latest ~greatest versions of GhostScript ~GhostView,
we plan on viewing the PostScript file (with color, of course) and printing it out!
Programming SIG: Will continue with their Adopt-an-App project, Newsharvest.
Help Desk chats now happen on Wednesday evenings at 7 PM PST. If you've got a
problem with hardware or software, join the chat and ask for help. For further info,
go to:
http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html
Sunday, December 3, 2:30 PM PST meetings at Chapman University, Orange:
OS/2 Help Desk: Got problems with your system? Volunteers at the OS/2 Help Desk
will help you solve them. Bring your system and all related hardware and software,
along with a detailed explanation of your problem.
Networking SIG: Will be providing help to members setting up a peer network and
connecting their local LAN to the Internet via a cable modem connection, DSL connection,
or a dial-up connection via an ISP.
The Sundial SIG is on hiatus, pending the successful search for a new SIG leader.
How to get to Grace Baptist Church:
The Grace Baptist Church in Anaheim is at 2528 W. La Palma Ave. It is on the
south side of the street (about 200 ft. E of Magnolia). It's a 2-story office building
close to La Palma Ave. with the address of 2528 up near the roof. (It's between
2 large apartment complexes and can be easily missed). Look for the SCOUG banner
and/or a sign with the words "New Hope Christian Center". Turn in (south)
there. Park in the front lot. For the general meeting, go up the stairs in the middle
of the building along the parking-lot side. For the Help Desk ~Networking SIG, go
in at the middle on the ground floor and down the hall to your right.

and turn left (going west over I-5). The church will be on your left side.
2) South I-5 (from Los Angeles): take the Magnolia exit and turn right going south.
Turn left on La Palma Ave; the church will be on your your right side.
3) West 91 freeway (from the Inland Empire, etc): take the Magnolia exit and turn

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html;
there is a map to the school, plus a more detailed map ~driving directions from
Yahoo!
How to get to Chapman University:
There are two ways to get directions:

2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter
the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

*** NOVEMBER 15th FEATURE PRESENTATION ***
-- INTRODUCTION TO REXX PROGRAMMING --
WHAT REXX CAN DO FOR YOU
At the November 15th meeting, SIG member Barry Mann will conduct a presentation/demo
of REXX, a subject of continuing interest by many of our members.
The REXX programming language, now celebrating its 20th birthday, is another
gem included with OS/2. REXX can be used in a variety of ways, ranging from simple
batch-type files to programming full GUI applications.
In his presentation, Barry will introduce the REXX language and cover the basics,
such as the syntax, statements and style. Then he will walk us through some simple
programs that can be used to build and destroy desktop objects; and to collect various
files into archives for subsequent distribution. These are the same "textbook"
techniques used by numerous commercial products to install and uninstall their programs.
Finally, he will demo "Jukebox," a multi-threaded GUI application coded
in REXX. "Jukebox" will show how a single console, serving multiple broadcast
stations, might exercise simultaneous control of many players, each of which has
a number of selections.
Attendees will leave with a basic knowledge of REXX programming and a group of
REXX program shells that may be easily customized for their own needs.
Other agenda items include SIG business matters, OS/2 news, new software releases,
Q&A session ~raffles. An OS/2 system will be on hand for demos of OS/2, Java,
Internet, etc. as time permits. Free light refreshments will be available.
Mark the date and time: Wednesday, November 15th, at 7:00pm, to hear about all
the new and exciting developments, or if you have questions about OS/2 Warp and
Java. OS/2 SIG meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and all others
interested in learning about OS/2 and associated Java technology.
