The Philadelphia OS/2 User Group invites all interested computer users to attend the December monthly meeting:

. WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 19, 2001 7:00 - 10:00 PM
. The Episcopal Academy, 376 N. Latches Lane, Merion, PA

. *** DECEMBER 19th MEETING AGENDA ***
. -- EXPANDED Q&A and MEMBER DISCUSSIONS --
. -- HOLIDAY & OS/2 14th BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION --

The December meeting will be devoted to an expanded Q&A session and group discussions of OS/2 related topics of general current interest. Some such topics which come to mind include:
- Installation & operation of multiple operating systems.
- Upgrading your computer: price vs performance
- USB for OS/2
- Networking issues for home users
- Project ODIN

Starting here, and continuing every third month thereafter, there will be an expanded Q&A and group discussion in lieu of a regular presentation/demo.

Additionally, this month also marks the 14th birthday of OS/2, and a birthday cake will be available this month to help us to celebrate the event. IBM's Software Choice subscription plan, together with Serenity's eComStation, should guarantee several more years of life with continuously added features for OS/2.

Other agenda items, as time permits, include U/G business items, OS/2 news, new releases and raffles. The usual free refreshments will also be available.

Mark the date and time: Wednesday, December 19th, at 7:00pm. OS/2 meetings are open and free for OS/2 users, their guests and others interested in learning about OS/2 and associated technologies. We have a very full agenda, so also please try to be on time promptly by 7:00pm.

Montreal OS/2 user group December 2001 meeting

The Montreal OS/2 user group will be holding what may very well be its last meeting at least in its present format. At last meeting, there were only three members present when excluding members of the board. Considering this, I don't feel it is worthwhile to continue in the present form.

The agenda will be as follows:

19:00 - 19:15 Meeting opening and board presentation.

19:15 - 20:00 OS/2 browsers: Netscape, Opera and Warpzilla by Raymond Dagenais

20:00 - 20:30 Coffee break

20:30 - 21:45 Discussion on the possibility to hold future meetings at a Dunkin at regular dates. In the meantime, think about it...

Meeting address: IBM/MARATHON Tower, 1250 Rene Levesque West, 7th floor, Montreal.

SCOUG Meeting Dec. 15: CID installation of OS/2

Contact: Tony Butka tony@scoug.com

The next meeting of the Southern California OS/2 User Group (SCOUG) will be this Saturday, December 15, 2001 at 9:00 AM PST, at Regal Lanes in Orange, 1485 N. Tustin Ave.

CID (Configuration/Installation/Distribution) installations

By popular demand, Steven Levine will show us what CID is all about. Not that he'll take much time to do so. CID is an automated way to install, and Steven will start a CID installation of OS/2 at the beginning of the meeting and we'll see how it goes. That's how we'll start. We'll end with Gary Wong explaining what he does to bring us his Download! column http://www.scoug.com/os24u/download.html each month. In-between, we'll have a super presentation, Q&A, and a big holiday raffle with items donated by our members.

Speaking of the raffle, don't forget to check your closets for usable OS/2 and computer-related items you aren't using any longer. Someone will want what you no longer need!

Check the web site for more complete information about this month's meeting topics. You'll always find the latest news and articles of interest to OS/2 users at http://www.scoug.com!

OS/2 Help Desk and Networking SIG, January 6th, 2002, 2 PM PST, Chapman University in Orange:

Need help?

What should you do when an installation doesn't go right, or you can't get something to work the way it should?

First, ask for help on SCOUG-Help, our mailing list to help each other over the bumps we all encounter. Instructions for signing up are at http://www.scoug.com/help/helpnow.html.

If it's Wednesday evening, join in on the Help Desk chat and see what ideas others might have about your problem. It's at 7 PM PST; info about chats are at http://www.scoug.com/chat/index.html.

Should you still be in need, take your problem - and your system - to the in-person OS/2 Help Desk that's held once a month.

While you're at the in-person Help Desk, you ought to find out what the Networking SIG is doing. If networking isn't part of your current strategy, it will be eventually. The SIG meets at the same time and place, and pursues issues related to network configurations and problem solutions.

How to get to Regal Lanes:

From the 55 freeway, exit Katella Ave. heading west. Turn right (north) at the first major intersection onto Tustin Ave. At the next signal you'll find Regal Lanes on your right. It's across from the Toyota of Orange dealership.

There's lots of parking on the south side of the building. Enter from the east entrance of the building (farthest from Tustin Ave.), not the main (front) entrance to the facility. Take the stairs to the 2nd floor; meeting rooms (and restrooms) will be on your left.

Handicapped access is via an elevator by the front door.

OR: Go to http://www.scoug.com/directions.html; there is a map to Regal Lanes, plus a more detailed map & driving directions from Yahoo!

How to get to Chapman University:

There are two ways to get directions:
1) Go to http://www.scoug.com/warpexpowest/sitemap.html
2) Go to http://www.mapquest.com/ and enter the address 400 N. Center Street, Orange, CA.

You can park in any of the University lots for free on Sundays, but if you part on the street, watch the signs carefully or else risk getting a parking ticket.

Come to Hashinger Hall Science Building, room 203. It's on the second floor and there's an elevator for you to bring up your equipment.

Come and join us!

Atlanta OS/2 User Group Meeting Postponed

The December calender has the 3rd Tuesday of the month falling on the 18th. This is too close to the holidays, and we have to do our Holiday Shopping!

As such, the Atlanta OS/2 User Group is postponing December's meeting until the 3rd Tuesday of January '02. This will be January 15th. We will make an announcement about when we will hold January's meeting in the near future.

Roger Borrello
