Two years ago, I started a project to link Psion PDA's (and potentially any PDA) to OS/2 through a serial link. I named it the PSI Project (PSI = PDA Serial Interface).

This project had a site at www.oprit.rug.nl; now that I have finished my studies, the original site has been removed and I had to move to a new location. The new site has been available for some months now at:

http://sibylarchive.hypermart.net/psi/

Hoping some of you will enjoy my software,

The 16 June 2000 issue of OS/2 eZine is now available.

In this issue:

Richard Klemmer talks with Bob St. John about eCommstation, and writes about his time at WarpTech 2000

We take a look at the ORB removable drive

Tom Nadeau discusses what the recent Microsoft Antitrust ruling means to OS/2 users

and more!

Note: Due to some last minute hardware catastrophes combined with ongoing FixPak 13 problems, this issue has been published in a very raw state... expect typos and grammatical errors to abound. These will be fixed within the next few days.

Since the last official update on IPS is getting quite old I feel that I should post this informative message to let old and new users outside the IPS mailing list know what is going on.

The last IPS version have undergone major internal redesign to make IPS even more powerfull and flexible. Almost all old complaints are now resolved and there are no more sluggish performance or missing features.

The current code includes working SMTP and POP3 as well as updated FTP with Virtual File System support.

So far the new code is only announced on the IPS mailing list as it is not documented and users need to be on the list to know what to do to be able to make the new code work.

But, I still need more testers. Please join the IPS mailing list to be updated on the current versions.

The IPS mailing list can be found at:

http://www.egroups.com/list/ips-list

To sum this up, the current code includes most of the wanted features requested for some time and IPS is back to the good old stability.

SecureDesktop is stopped, definitely.
===========================

(*) device-driver FixPak: mouse-driver is not SES-enabled
(*) some original device-drivers (without fixpacks): FFST, some hard-disk-drivers - I do not know why a hard-disk-driver must be SES-enabled but...
(*) GRADD-video-drivers should be SES-enable, but I do not know why a graphics must be SES-enabled but...

This is not a great role of IBM: Even the developers do not know which drivers are SES-enabled and which not. This is really very sad!

(*) my own replacement of the WPDesktop-class: utilities like XWorkplace, XFolder, ObjectDesktop will not run with SecureDesktop. I cannot considerate every WPDesktop-replacement that will come up in future.

(*) SES-API has changed from Warp4 to Warp4.5 (This reminds to the WindowsAPI of the week!)

Sorry for all who wanted to use SecureDesktop and thanks to all who tested this for me. I repeat SecureDesktop is dead and I will not continue the development.

Many friends have been asking me how I did bootable CDs, so I've put up a quick page containing a working OS/2 Warp 3 bootable CD image (command-line), along with instructions on how to assemble and burn the CD.

The layout I devised can be used for both OS/2 Warp 3 and OS/2 Warp 4, as they both use the exact same filenames. This particular boot image was built for my Toshiba notebook (which can only boot CDs with 1.44MB images...)

The page is located at:

http://cobra.sharpnet.net/~slaughta/

The zipfile containing the boot image is also available there as well.

Later I'll add the other variations of this bootable CD (Warp 4 command line, Warp 4 PM, both with and without network support).
