Event: Warpstock -- Online Registration

2005-09-08

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy Willis

Warpstock 2005 will take place in less than a month, beginning Thursday,
October 6th at the Wyndham Harrisburg Hershey hotel. Four days of
non-stop OS/2 and eComStation classes, presentations, product demos and
discussion. Please see the schedule of presentations listed at
http://www.warpstock.org/event_info/2005/schedule.html

It has come to our attention that some credit cards were being denied
since they were with banks outside North America. We apologize for this
inconvenience and if you were trying to register at our online store and
received a "512" error message that you now try purchasing your
registration again. We have updated the settings at our credit card
processor and have been led to believe that the changed setup will
process the transactions. If you have a problem with transactions at the
store, please email: customerservicedDESPAM@DESPAMwarpstock.org (REMOVE
THE DESPAM FIRST) with a description of the problem. We can in most
cases, process the transaction manually once we are aware that an error
has occurred without compromising your credit card number.

We also suggest that if you DO receive an error message from the store
when trying to conclude a transaction, that you DO NOT RETRY the
transaction. Each attempt will send a request to your financial
institution to allocate funding for the pending transaction, and may
reduce your available credit line for a period time that is determined by
your financial institution. Just send an email to
cutomerserviceDESPAM@DESPAMwarpstock.org (REMOVE THE DESPAM FIRST) and we
will handle the transaction manually, and send you a email confirmation.

Thanks for supporting Warpstock and I look forward to seeing many of you
again in Hershey.

SW: PM123 version 1.31b5 Has Been Released

2005-09-09

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: "Sander Nyman"<2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

PM123 version 1.31b5 has been released, and is available at:

ftp://ftp.ptv.ru/pub/glass/pm123/pm123-1_31_beta_5.zip

PM123 is an excellent open source PM based digital audio player for OS/2.
It plays MP3s, WAV-files and audio CDs. PM123 supports skins, audio
streaming, plugins, visualization and more!

Originally developed by Samuel Audet, it is being maintained by Dmitry
Steklenev. Thanks Dmitry!!

You can find more information on PM123 here:
http://sektori.com/pm123/index.php

New since version 1.30:

- Player window now can be moved by left click-dragging.
- Integrated last source codes of the Generalised Bitmap Module. - The
playlist manager now remembers the font and colors dropped on it from the
font and color palette. - It's now possible to stop use of the playlist
after beginning it's use. - Duplicate items will not be added to the lists
of recent files. - Playing of a file does not stop if this file is
removed from the playlist and the player is not in a mode of use of this
playlist. - The playlist window doesn't close when using alt-f4 to close
the ID3 tag editor. - The name of the loaded playlist file is displayed
in the title of the playlist window. - Added ID3 tag charset conversion.

CDDAPLAY:
- The FreeDB online search now can be turned off.
- GUI is not freezed while getting the servers-list.
- If the CD disk is not found in the FreeDB, this negative hit is cached
up at restart of the program. - Settings of the module do not resetting as
a result of reinstallation of the program.

ANALYZER:
- Fixed the minimal value of update frequency and percent of spectrum
display. Zero values caused crash of the program. - The spectrum analyzer
uses new FFT library and works more accurately. - Added the new display
mode with thick bars and using a logarithmic scale of frequencies.

MPG123:
- The MP3 decoder does not stop at playing some broken files.

REALEQ:
- New presets are used immediately after loading an equalizer from a file.
- If the "zero" has been pressed then the current preset will not be
loaded after restart of the program.

Sander Nyman

SW: Updated port of ffmpeg for OS/2 & eComStation

2005-09-11

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,
I've just built ffmpeg from the latest cvs source as of this evening,
Sunday 11th September, Central Australian Time :)

It can be downloaded from http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

For those that don't know, ffmpeg is a command line tool to convert one
video file format to another.

See http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net for other details.

ffserver & ffplay have not been ported at this stage.

Included in this latest release is support for mp3, xvid, dts, ac3 & also
pthreads.

With pthreads support, you can tell ffmpeg to use multiple threads using
the -threads x option - where x = the number of threads to use.

I'd appreciate feedback on this release - particularly from users with SMP
systems that may benefit from the threads support.

Cheers,

Paul.

SW: PmW-Fx 1.5beta1 released

2005-09-12

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: mozilladDESPAM@DESPAMWeilbacher.org

Not sure how to announce this... If I understand the rather restrictive
Mozilla.org trademark policy correctly I am not allowed to call this
release "Firefox" because I changed some code, so I called it "PmW-Fx"
instead. This mostly corresponds to the 1.5beta1 release, but
- includes MNG support
- fixes certain drag-and-drop crashes
- fixes the IDN crash security problem
- uses lxLite to compress files a bit more
- changes the brand.* files contained in en-US.jar to rename the final
product

so please tell me or post in this newsgroup before complaining to
Mozilla.org or in Bugzilla. Unfortunately, I forgot to build it
statically, sorry. Will try better next time...

Anyway, this is for those who want a preview of how things will look with
the Firefox 1.5 release in November or so. Download from my builds page.

SW: Mozilla Firefox 1.5b1 Has Been Released

2005-09-13

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: "Sander Nyman"<2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Mozilla Firefox 1.5b1 has been released. This release includes an
improved software update system, faster Back and Forward navigation, a
feature for clearing private browsing data, drag-and-drop reordering of
browser tabs, a redesigned Options/Preferences window and better popup
blocking. Web standards support is also improved, with support for
Scalable Vector Graphics, JavaScript 1.6 and more CSS. Accessibility is
also better (including new DHTML accessibility features), security has
also been enhanced. Firefox's Extension System has been redesigned to make
extension upgrades cleaner (nothing left behind from previous versions).
This DOES break many current extensions, so if you use extensions, CHECK
FOR UPDATES to them first. Extension authors are aware of this, so by the
time of the final 1.5 release, all extensions should be updated.

You can download it here:

SW: TextHelper

2005-09-13

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: "Don Hawkinson"

TextHelper is simple editor based on the MultiLineEditor class from the
IBM Open Class Library. I have added some text manipulation functions and
support for printing on HP Deskjet and Lazerjet printers. TextHelper is
not intended to replace E or EPM or any functional editor. Its value is
mainly the ability to print in Landscape or Portrait mode, in 12 cpi or
16.5 cpi or proportional, in 6 lpi or 8 lpi, with or without line
numbers, with or without a 3 hole punch margin, and in any combination of
those options.

This is an early beta copy of TextHelper and this file is all the
documentation that is available.

Most of the features and functions of the program should be obvious. But
if you really believe that , I have a couple of large bridges for sale.

One feature that is not obvious is a special file naming option. If you
highlight or mark a descriptive phrase and then select Save As under the
file menu, the marked text will be used as the file name. This only works
if your drives are formatted as HPFS.

I have the print options working. The program expects you to be sending
the printing to a printer that is HP PCL 3 compatible. If your printer
works with DJPrint, it should work with TextHelper.

If the text loaded into TextHelper does not have hard coded line wrapping
or has been de-wrpped, you can format the text for printing by changing
the size of the TextHelper window and the size of the display font. The
font size will not be used by your printer, but the length of the
displayed lines will be used when the text is printed. Sort of wysiwyg
printing. This allows you to use the word wrapping of TextHelper to
format the text for printing. The word wrapping is a part of the IBM Open
Class Library and will not be a part of DJPrint

I have not added the header and pagination formatting to TextHelper
because I was not sure if would be used. Let me know what you think.

I am interested in bug reports, comments on how the TextHelper works or
doesn't work, and suggestions for functions and improvements.

I can give you an example on using TextHelper.

1: Load TH.TXT (this file) into TextHelper
2: Mark the numbered section and select CUT from the edit menu.
3: Open new copy of TextHelper
4: Paste the printer list into the new copy of TextHelper.
You could skip steps 3 & 4 and leave the text in the Clipboard
5: Now select De-wrapping under the Edit menu.
This turns off word wrapping, so it must be reselected under
the Options/Display menu. You will also need to change the
font to System Proportional size 10
6: Restore the cut text.
7: Now resize the horizontal dimention of the TextHelper window
and then press F6 to get the size of the longest line after
wrapping.
8: Repeat step 7 until longest line is 116 to 119 characters.
9: Under the Options/Printer menu: select compresed print,
3 hole punch margin,Portrait mode, and the desired printer
10: Select Print under the File menu.

The program may be downloaded at:
