SW: Maul Publisher for OS/2 - Stopped working?

2006-03-01
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: "Peter Koller"

Maul Publisher is an industrial strength desktop publisher capable of
creating virtually all of the printing seen on everyday household items. You
can use it to easily lay out newspapers, cards, books, labels, stamps,
posters, charts, forms, and even designs like building plans or furniture
arrangements.

Check your printer drivers
======================

I have just upgraded eCS1.2 using ecsmt. I then noticed that Maul Publisher
stopped working. This appears to be due to some sort of corruption in the
printer drivers. C:\POPUPLOG.OS2 shows a crash in the printer driver, in
my case this was 'pscript.drv'.

Completely remove all the affected printer objects, and Maul once again
works. Please note that at least 1 working printer driver (like IBMNULL) is
required for Maul to start up.

You can then re-install the latest version of the required printer driver.
That ought to fix it.
Any feedback on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: kim.foderDESPAM@DESPAMtele2adsl.dk

WhatsOn version 1.0 has finally been released.

A lot of minor errors has been corrected, and some new features has been added.

There still are some known problems, I'm working on those.

See read.me, or the WhatsOn homepage, for more information.

For those who don't know :

This game is highly inspired by the old DOS game Sherlock.

The game is one of logic deduction, and are (at least in the original
version) very addictive!

SW: Imagemagick 6.2.6 for OS/2

2006-03-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi all, I've just uploaded Imagemagick 6.2.6 for OS/2 compiled with GCC
3.3.5 libc06 GA version to my site at http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

From http://www.imagemagick.org :
ImageMagick®, version 6.2.6, is a free software suite to create, edit, and
compose bitmap images. It can read, convert and write images in a large
variety of formats. Images can be cropped, colors can be changed, various
effects can be applied, images can be rotated and combined, and text,
lines, polygons, ellipses and Bézier curves can be added to images and
stretched and rotated.

ImageMagick is free software: it is delivered with full source code and can
be freely used, copied, modified and distributed. Its license is compatible
with the GPL. It runs on all major operating systems.

It requires libc06.dll from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip

Not tested much - but convert.exe at least works.

2006-03-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mikkel C. Simonsen (mcsDESPAM@DESPAMpost5.tele.dk)

I have just updated my old Xpdf 3.0 port to the lastest version (3.01pl2)
and uploaded it to Hobbes (file name xpdf-3.01pl2.zip).

Xpdf can be used to convert PDF files to text or PostScript, display PDF
file information or extract images from PDF files.

Only needs EMX - no strange Innotek DLLs...

SW: FFMpeg and FFPlay updated

2006-03-03
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

Just a quick one to let people know that I've updated ffmpeg and ffplay
based on a cvs update from today (3rd March, 2006).

From the website (ffmpeg.sourceforge.net)
FFmpeg is a complete solution to record, convert and stream audio and
video. It includes libavcodec, the leading audio/video codec library.
FFmpeg is developed under Linux, but it can compiled under most operating
systems, including Windows.

The project is made of several components:

* ffmpeg is a command line tool to convert one video file format to another.
* ffplay is a simple media player based on SDL and on the FFmpeg libraries.

If you'd like to support continued ports of software for OS/2 &
eComStation, please consider making a donation using PayPal via the link at
http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

Cheers,

Paul.

From: Andy Willis

The Tenth Annual Warpstock Conference

Date: October 12 - 15, 2006

Location: Windsor, Ontario. Canada

Warpstock 2005, in Hershey, PA. was a successful celebration of the
strengths and features of eComStation.Warpstock 2006 will be bigger and
better. The Warpstock Board invites you to join this 10th Annual
congregation of vendors, developers, and users to share and learn about the
outstanding advantages, features, and software for eComStation.

Create your own Conference! Help by recommending, or nominating a
presentation or presenter you would like to hear/see at Warpstock 2006.

Warpstock 2006 Proposed Planning Schedule:

1. Contact of and recruitment of Presenters.January through March 30, 2006.

2. April 2006. Posting on the Warpstock 2006 site of confirmed
Presenters and Sessions along with the extensive Social Program.Note:
Tentative timetabling only at this time, ie Thursday +/ Friday lumped
together. We will have a 'named by email' open vote by eComStation user
to identify the sessions they want most 1st, 2nd, 3rd,... to least. These
will be matrixed and evaluated for popularity and` minimization of
conflicts. This should address the only major complaint from Warpstock 2005.

3. May 01, 2006, voting ends and the Warpstock 2006 timetable will be
constructed.Presenters who commit after this process will have to accept
whatever time slots are available. We will, however, try to accommodate
everyone.

Social Program Details (subject to adjustments of course).Registration
will open for both. Warpstock 2006 promotions begin with the awesome
sessions you have helped us put together.

Proposed Warpstock 2006 Schedule

There will be both a technical program and a social program.
The technical program will follow the form used at recent Warpstocks
with intensive sessions on Thursday and Friday and shorter presentations
on Saturday and Sunday.

The social program is tentatively planned to have on Thursday, a tour of
Hiram Walker (Canada Club Brand) and either a dine-around on Erie Street
(Italian restaurants) or a dinner at a 'Canadian' restaurant. On Friday,
it is hoped to confirm a tour of an automotive manufacturing plant. On
Saturday I am arranging a tour of Henry Ford Greenfield Museum, and IMAX
move, and dinner in Dearborn Michigan.

These items are currently under negotiation but are mentioned so you are
aware of what is planned.

The following form is intended to carry information through a process of
Nomination, Confirmation, and Website Posting, andfinally, the creation
of the Warpstock 2006 Program.

Step 1: A Nominator should complete the Form, about a Presenter and
potential topic and forward itto the Presentation Coordinator for
coordination. .For a second or third topic of presentation please copy
and complete an additional Form .

Step 2: The Program Chair will send the form with instructions tothe
Presenter for completion of the remaining details and acceptance by the
Presenter.

Step 3: The Program Chair will then post the Presenter's
information on the Warpstock.org website.
It is hoped that these exchanges will be completed by Mid-July allowing
for creation of the Warpstock 2005 schedule. This will permit attendees
to know what is offered on a particular day or time when they

Net: Week of Core Duo notebooks

2006-03-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

The tenth week of 2006 is dedicated to collection of info about notebooks
with Intel Core Duo processors. Our database contains 120 records only (
http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=category&section=brand ). Major
part of the models are not manufactured anymore. Post new reports using the
web-form ( http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=new ).

Please, inform us, does your notebook has COM-ports, or not. If possible,
run the utility which collects information about ACPI (
http://ecomstation.ru/projects/acpitools/download/acpitest20060206.zip )
and send its output (packed to .zip) to e-mail: support at ecomstation dot ru

The utility works without ACPI driver loaded.

Attention! The developers of solutions are interested to know the list of
unsupported notebooks.
