SW: CMD_IT

2006-02-03
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Don Hawkinson

I have placed CMD_IT on my web site:
http://home.tulsaconnect.com/dwhawk/cmd_it.zip

It is a free OS/2 command line program that generates OS/2 CMD files.

The program expects the command line to contain the file name for the
CMD file and one or more files to be operated on by the generated CMD
file.

The program will then prompt the user for the CMD file instructions.
The instructions may contain up to 6 commands that use the filenames.

The commands are entered on one line with @ representing a new line
and %s representing the filename.

Here is a sample command line.

CMD_IT XXX.CMD C*.C

The following entered when prompted will generate the CMD file shown
below.

djprint %s@zip -g junk.zip %s@copy %s p:\backup

The first line of the generated CMD file is a comment that shows the
name of the CMD file and the path to CMD_IT. The second line is the
number of files that the CMD file operates on. The third line is a
plug for my web site.

/* xxx.cmd generated by F:\DRDOS\TC\CMD_IT.EXE*/
/* 6*/
/* see http://www.dwhawkinson.com for my other programs. */
djprint CMD_IT.C
zip -g junk.zip CMD_IT.C
copy CMD_IT.C p:\backup
djprint CUT.C
zip -g junk.zip CUT.C
copy CUT.C p:\backup
djprint c_copy.c
zip -g junk.zip c_copy.c
copy c_copy.c p:\backup
djprint C_DEL.C

SW: Updated versions of ffmpeg and ffplay uploaded.

2006-02-06
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,
I've just uploaded new versions of ffmpeg and ffplay to
http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

FFmpeg is a very fast video and audio converter.

The command line interface is designed to be intuitive, in the sense
that FFmpeg tries to figure out all parameters that can possibly be
derived automatically. You usually only have to specify the target
bitrate you want.

FFmpeg can also convert from any sample rate to any other, and resize
video on the fly with a high quality polyphase filter.

FFplay is a very simple and portable media player using the FFmpeg
libraries and the SDL library. It is mostly used as a testbed for the
various FFmpeg APIs.

Cheers,

Paul.

Although many OS/2 and eCS users worldwide know the existence of and
the concept behind netlabs.org already for years. It still is
surprising that a large group of people don't know what is going on or
where to find things.

That is why some people, close to netlabs.org, decided to gather

electronic newsletter. To share the news and make it easier for
everybody to stay updated and always get the latest greatest open
source OS/2 and eCS software!

This is the first newsletter, so please feel free to react and comment
about it (see below). We are still in the phase of setting it up and
are open for suggestions. Like we are not sure yet if people can
subscribe to it themselves as well.

Netlabs.org relies on your support as well, we hire developers to have
better progress on projects. For sure this costs money so any
sponsoring is very welcome! You can support netlabs.org via
netlabs.org sponsoring units:

The page states that VAT has to be payed as well, this is *not* the
case for the sponsoring units, netlabs.org gets the full amount you
donate!

The latest version of Enigmail is now available for os/2 and eComstation.
It is downloadable from my warpzilla page:

current version works with Thunderbird 1.5 and seamonkey 1.0.
It does NOT work with the latest seamonkey alpha (1.1a), since
seamonkey 1.1 is compiled with a different version of GCC.

From: David Graser (dwgrasDESPAM@DESPAMswbell.net)

I have created 12 colorful folders for eCs and OS/2. These are
similar to the colorful Stardock folders, but not the same. At this
time, the package contains only some of the key folder icons.
Hopefully I will have time to add more later. The darker color folder
icons show up nicely on notebooks with their brighter screens. These
are multipage icons which means each folder icon contain icons with
sizes of 40x40, 32x32, 20x20, and 16x16.

Mozilla Firefox 1.5 .0.1 has been released. This is a security and
stability update to Mozilla Firefox 1.5. It is also said to have
addressed several memory leaks. It contains 8 security fixes, one of
which is rated critical, so updating to 1.5.0.1 is recommended.

including an automated update system to streamline product upgrades,
faster Back and Forward navigation, a feature for clearing private
browsing data, drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs, a redesigned
Options/Preferences window and better popup blocking. Web standards
support is also improved, with support for Scalable Vector Graphics,
JavaScript 1.6 and more CSS. Accessibility is also better (including
new DHTML accessibility features), security has also been enhanced.
Firefox's Extension System has been redesigned to make extension
upgrades cleaner (nothing left behind from previous versions).

latest version is 0.5.1, which includes an installer. Available here:
