OS/2 is mentioned several times in the reader comments. No mention of
eComStation though. Some of the comments about OS/2 are pretty inaccurate.

SW: DVD Author 0.6.11 Release 2

2006-03-09
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From:
Paul Smedley

Hi All,
I've just uploaded release 2 of DVD Author 0.6.11 to
http://smedley.info/os2ports.html.

This is based on the same source as my earlier port from June 2005, but has
been rebuilt using the GA version of libc06, which can be downlaoded from
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip

Updating to the GA version of libc06 fixes some sys1808 errors in
spumux.exe (Thanks for the report Alex).

I've used ffmpeg successfully to convert video to dvd format, then write to
DVD as follows:
ffmpeg -i -target dvd outputfile.mpg
dvdauthor -o outputfile.mpg
dvdauthor -T -o

cd
mkisofs2 -dvdvideo -o image.iso -r .
dvddao image.iso

ffmpeg is available from: http://smedley.info/os2ports.html
mkisofs2 is available from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=cdrtools2&stype=all&sort=date&dir=%2F
dvddao is available from:

SW: Pronews/2 v1.58 released

2006-03-10
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Trevor Hemsley

I'm pleased to announce the release of Pronews/2 v1.58

Pronews/2 is a multithreaded NNTP Newsreader program for OS/2.

If you are upgrading from a release prior to 1.54 then you are strongly
urged to backup your existing filter files as the files have a different
on-disk format from 1.54 onwards. Failure to backup files *.FLT in \pronews
and \pronews\headers will mean it will be impossible to use your filters if
you should need to revert to a release prior to 1.54. You should also read
the readme.txt file installed in the \pronews directory as this covers
changes and new features from prior releases as well as tips for making
Pronews/2 quicker.

You can find Pronews/2 1.58 on ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming (later to
be ftp://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/news/reader) as pn2v158.zip.

Pronews/2 is shareware and all profits from its sale are donated to the
charity Save the Children.

Pronews/2 v1.58 is a relatively small update with a few bugs fixed and one
new feature - the ability to send email through servers that require a
userid/password. Authenication mechanisms CRAM-MD5, LOGIN and PLAIN are
supported. Other fixes include 4 bugs that caused crashes, filters not
liking embedded % characters and one fix that stops garbage being posted if
you post with autowrap off.

More information about all changes and installation instructions can be
found in the readme file after (or during) the install.

SW: VCD Imager 0.7.23 for OS/2 & eComStation

2006-03-11
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

I've just uploaded vcimager v0.7.23 to http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

GNU VCDImager is a full-featured mastering suite for authoring,
disassembling and analyzing Video CD's and Super Video CD's.

The core functionality consists of directly making Video CD BIN/CUE-style
CD images from mpeg files, which (after being written to CDR(W) media) can
be played on standalone VCD players or DVD players and on computers running
GNU/Linux, MacOS, Win32 or any other OS capable of accessing VCD's. BIN/CUE
images can be burned with [cdrdao] (please use a recent version, since
older ones do not support BIN/CUE-style cuesheets) under GNU/Linux (and
other supported platforms by cdrdao, e.g. freeBSD, Irix, Solaris and even
win32)

I've compiled it with Innotek GCC v0.6 GA version and thus it requires
libc06.dll from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip

Program homepages is http://www.vcdimager.org/

Not tested much - but I have created one videocd successfully using vcdimager.

Any feedback is appreciated - even if it's just to say you find this port
useful.

Donations to support continued development can be made via the link at
http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

Cheers,

Paul Smedley

Several extensions for keyboard shortcuts have been added.

Get package gbmos2pm122_bin.zip from Hobbes.

The new homepage of GBM for OS/2 and eCS

-> GBM.DLL and GBMDLG.DLL are binary backward compatible to existing
applications.
- API enhancements and changes due to OpenWatcom support (see change log
for details)

Full source code:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gbmos2pm122_gbmos2_135_src

All binaries are now optimized for Pentium or compatible processors but
they should run on earlier 32bit processors as well (untested).

Have fun,

SW: Weasel version 1.76 released

2006-03-15
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Peter Moylan

A new version of the Weasel mail server is finally available. You can find
it at
http://www.pmoylan.org/pages/os2/Weasel.html

or from Hobbes at

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=weasel176.zip&stype=all&sort=type&dir=%2F

Weasel is a shareware mail server supporting SMTP and POP3, with a number
of extensions including the AUTH command for both POP and SMTP. It may be
tuned for detailed control over which mail sources/destinations are
permitted, and what sort of authentication is required. You can plug in
your own filters (or use filters that others have contributed) for things
like spam control. Blacklists are supported. An IMAP4 extension is under
development, and in fact is working except for one serious outstanding bug
in the fetching of large files.

Registration is optional for single-domain use. To enable hosting of
multiple domains, and/or IMAP support, registration is required.

Because several intermediate versions were never released, the list of
changes is fairly long.

LIST OF CHANGES since version 1.73.

Version 1.76 (15 Mar 2005)
Allowed for longer names on registration page.
Fixed: result of 16 from stage 0 filter was
being ignored.
Added new POP3 commands CAPA and AUTH.
Fixed a bug in CRAM-MD5 implementation.

Version 1.75 (8 Feb 2005)
Internal changes to buffering and logging.
Rule change: INI file is taken from working directory,
instead of from program directory.
Added German language file.
Now use lower case instead of upper case 'a'..'f' as
hex digits when representing an MD5 digest.
This version not released because of a CRAM-MD5 bug.

Version 1.74 (18 May 2005)
Provision for a fourth service: a "message submission
agent" service which is like SMTP but which is
intended for messages initially entering the mail
system, as distinct from those which are already
in the system and are being relayed from one
mail server to another. Very few mail clients
understand this distinction, so you probably don't
need to enable this service unless you are sure
you have a need for it.
Restored the "Synch" operation that was needed to
work around a bug in Microsoft clients.
Private build: this version not publicly released.

* Copy files to CDs just by drag and drop - using your favourite file
manager (i.e. Windows Explorer, WPS, ...).
* RSJ CD Writer creates "on the fly copies". Thus the data is read in
directly from the CD-ROM during the copying process - this saves time and
does not require memory space on the harddisk.
* Completely unattended, automated operation possible.
* RSJ CD Writer supports about any current CD recorder.
