SW: New Homepage for CDMagic

From: Lutz Wagner (Lutz.WagnerDESPAM@DESPAMzworks.de)

CDMagic, the MP3-Database, has a new homepage. Besides being redesigned
(improved) in respect to look & feel there are some functional additions:
(1) a 'News' rubric where from time to time information about the product
is given,
(2) a collection of tips & tricks (i.e. how to make a better use of
CDMagic), which is also being replenished on a regular basis,
(3) the 'Community'-section is now open (this is where CDMagic-users have
published their music).

SW: bzip2 1.0.3 for OS/2

2006-02-26
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Yuri Dario (mc6530DESPAM@DESPAMmclink.it)

bzip2 is a freely available, patent free (see below), high-quality data
compressor. It typically compresses files to within 10% to 15% of the best
available techniques (the PPM family of statistical compressors), whilst
being around twice as fast at compression and six times faster at
decompression.

SW: Java Movie Database (JMDB) v1.35 beta released

2006-02-26
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Juergen Ulbts (magog001DESPAM@DESPAMweb.de)

On 02/22/2006 the new version of the Java Movie Database has been released.
It's an open beta of version 1.35.

The Java Movie Database (JMDB) is a Java program which stores the data from
the IMDb Text files
(Internet Movie Database - http://www.imdb.com/) in several MySQL/PosgreSQL
tables.
After you have imported the data, you can search for actors, movies,
producers and actors.
About the movies and people some details several details are shown.
For more details look at the JMDB-Homepage!

We recommend an update to the recent beta version, because changes made to
the IMDb data (since
end of January 2006) are supported by this version (you can remove episode
from the tv show from search results)
and the amount of main memory used to import the data is also higher than
before the IMDb changes
(the -Xmx parameter in the start scripts has been updated).
The new version also allows to use PostgreSQL (NEW) and MySQL.

We are also still looking for volunteers that want to translate the program
to other languages.
Please contact us via eMail (see website). http://www.jmdb.de/

More details can be found on the homepage: http://www.jmdb.de/

ERRONEOUS DATA:
===============
Currently there are several errors in the IMDb data files, that have been
introduced with the recent
IMDb change to include episodes of tv shows.
I've corrected those entries (Title from movies and release dates of
episodes) and forwarded them
to the IMDb List-Keepers, but it takes time until they get submitted.
I hope they will be included with the next update.

Because of those errors you can't import the release-dates.list(.gz) if you
use PostgreSQL
as long as the data is not corrected, because there will be a lot of errors
generated by PostgreSQL.

If you want to import it anyway you need to correct the data manually.
First you need to extract the release-dates.list.gz. Then you need to edit
the release-dates.list
file with a texteditor and correct the following dates (4 entries only -
one date is used two times).
The following years do not have a 29th February...so you need to replace
the 29 with a 28:
29 February 1997
29 February 1955
29 February 1954
