FOSS for OS/2: Keeping the flame alive
Thursday February 16, 2006 (06:00 PM GMT)
By: Bruce Byfield

"After a decade of neglect and increasingly reluctant support from
IBM, the manufacturer, the OS/2 community persists. Where users of
GNU/Linux or FreeBSD have turned to free and open source software
(FOSS) for political and philosophical freedom and software quality,
the surviving OS/2 community has been turning to FOSS as a means of
defending members' right to use the operating system of their choice.
The result is a small but surprisingly diverse collection of projects
that, to a GNU/Linux user, is a mixture of the familiar and exotic..."

SW: Mr. Message (AIM client) update (2/19/2006)

2006-02-20
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Marty

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable
of communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR
protocol (used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, gAIM, Kopete, ICQ,
and a variety of other clients).

It has been updated with the following changes:

* Fixed receiving instant messages from other clients.
Damn protocol changes!
* Fixed a small memory leak when an IM is received that is not
understood.
* Added new scriptable events for pre-processing and post-processing
instant messages. This should allow anyone to write a translator for
other languages and character sets. See ReadMe.REXX for details.
* Added new functions to the REXX subcommand interface to display
messages in the chat window (without sending them to a user), and to
get a user's alias.
* Included more sample scripts in the REXX package to demonstrate new
REXX integration features.

To download, please visit the official Mr. Message web page:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage

This is the final release of Mr. Message since I am now working on a
full port of Gaim (which will cover all of the functionality of Mr.
Message and a whole lot more, including multiple protocols such as
Jabber, Yahoo, and MSN to name a few).

If a fix request for Mr. Message is simple enough, I will do it. But
if it takes too much time, I'd rather devote the time to the Gaim port.

"The ultimate in personal financial programs for OS/2. This will make the

"The best native OS/2 personal financial program to date. If you are using
DB2, run the included MakeDB.cmd file. For the PostGRE version, you will
need to type at the command line . Don't
included the brackets on the command line. If you don't have either
Database's, QnEDemo.exe will demo the graphics of this program. I tried to
make the background look like my wood desk top. Instead it ended up looking
