Event: Reminder about Maul Publisher IRC speakup coming weekend!!!

2006-05-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Roderick Klein

Dear OS/2/eComStation user,

VOICE is pleased to announce there will be an IRC speakup about Maul
Publisher. The speakup is with Peter Koller who is the developer of
Maul Publisher. Have not heard of Maul Publisher yet ?

Maul Publisher is an industrial strength desktop publisher capable of
creating virtually all of the printing seen on everyday household
items. You can use it to easily lay out newspapers, cards, books, labels,
stamps, posters, charts, forms, and even designs like building plans or
furniture arrangements. http://www.manglais.com

What is a SpeakUp? Well, it's organized via IRC (Internet Relay Chat). On
an IRC SpeakUp you will get a chance to talk to software developers,
for instance. The person/organization/company invited for the SpeakUp will
give a short introduction about himself and the product or project they
work on. And then the real part of the SpeakUp starts! You can ask
questions! If you like the information exchange at Warpstock
(www.warpstock.org), then you will like VOICE SpeakUps (depending on the
subject, of course).

We will try and organize SpeakUps every month on a subject of interest.

May 6th Saturday speakup targetted at the North and South America and Europe!
Saturday 6th May, 19:00 GMT
Saturday 6th May, 21:00 CET (Paris,Europe)
Saturday 6th May, 15:00 (New York time)
Saturday 6th May, 12:00 (Los Angeles time)

During both speakups there will be special pricing for Maul Publisher!
Information will be provided at the speakup.

Visit http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc for timezone help.

Channel #voice can be found on the following server:

2006-05-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Heiko Nitzsche (Posted on comp.os.os2.announce)

NEW: GBM File Dialog REXX adapter library (GBMDLGRX 1.0)
--------------------------------------------------------
(Public Domain)

The REXX adapter DLL allows REXX programmers to use the GBM File Dialog in
their programs. It requires availability of GBM.DLL and the GBM File Dialog
DLLs (GBMDLG.DLL and GBMDLG.HLP).

Get package gbmos2rx100_bin.zip from Hobbes.
It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below).

GBM.DLL 1.38 and GBM command line tools
---------------------------------------
(Public Domain)

The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and
saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file
formats. Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to
access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format the
pictures are in, or any details about file format itself.

In this version, extended PNG, TIF and PPM support is additionally
included. PNG and TIF support also 16, 32, 48, 64 bpp colour depths
with/without alpha channel. PPM supports also 48 bpp colour depth.

It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools.

Get package gbmos2_138_bin.zip from Hobbes.
It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below).

Enhanced GBMV2 Version 1.25
---------------------------
(Public Domain)

GBMV2 is a fast and simple bitmap viewer and editor for the OS/2
Presentation Manager.

Enhanced release of the GBMV2-Viewer from the GBMOS2PM package:
* An English and a German version of GBMV2 is included.
* An English and a German version of the GBM file dialog is included.

GBMDLG.DLL has been extended by:
* Bitmap preview within the file dialog
* Redesign to fit eComStation file dialog style

Both parts got new resources that better fit to the Warp 4 and eComStation
look & feel. The package comes with resources for fonts 8.Helv and
9.WarpSans for both, German and English. Several extensions for keyboard
shortcuts have been added.

Get package gbmos2pm124_bin.zip from Hobbes.
It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below).

The new homepage of GBM for OS/2 and eCS
----------------------------------------
http://heikon.home.tlink.de

It provides:
- reworked documentation (now also included in the download archives)
- developer tutorials on how to use GBM libs in your own programs
- download of all sources and binaries

What's new compared to GBM.DLL 1.37 and GBMV2 1.24
--------------------------------------------------

* NEW: GBMDLGRX 1.0, a REXX adapter DLL for the GBM File Dialog
* All binaries can now also be compiled with OpenWatcom 1.5.
(and they are :) )

There is a bunch of important fixes included.

SW: MySQL 5.0.21 has been released for OS/2 & eComStation

2006-05-04
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Management System, has been released, and an OS/2 & eComStation build is
now available from http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

This is a bugfix release for the current production release family.

This MySQL 5.0.21 release includes the patches for recently reported
security vulnerabilites in the MySQL client-server protocol. We would like
to thank Stefano Di Paola for finding and
reporting these to us.

Changes in 5.0.21 are detailed at
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/news-5-0-21.html

Changes in 5.0.20a & 5.0.20 for which there wasn't a public OS/2 build are
detailed at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/news-5-0-20a.html &
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/news-5-0-20.html

Release Notes:
1) DLL is now provided, significantly reducing the size of the client
utilities
2) libs\*, include\* are now provided
3) built with libc06 CSD1 so libc061.dll is required - this can be
downloaded from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip
4) this has currently had fairly limited testing - but it is running now
on my server and being used successfully with my build of PHP 5.1.3
5) Command line history is now working correctly
6) All bug reports should be submitted via the bug tracker at
http://mantis.smedley.info

A *big* thanks to Yuri Dario who provided his patches for MySQL 4.1.7 which
were the basis for this updated port. You can checkout (and support)
Yuri's efforts via his website at http://www.os2power.com/yuri

For new users of MySQL - an initial set of data tables as created via the
mysql_install_db script is available from
http://smedley.info/mysql5inittable.zip - this should be unzipped into the
../mysql5 directory. Additional details on securing the data tables can be
found at http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/unix-post-installation.html

See the COPYING file included in the archive for details on the MySQL license.

SW: Apache2 v2.2.2 Web Server now available for OS/2 & eComStation

2006-05-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

I've just uploaded a build of Apache2 v2.2.2 to
http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

From http://httpd.apache.org:
The Apache HTTP Server Project is an effort to develop and maintain an
open-source HTTP server for modern operating systems including UNIX and
Windows NT. The goal of this project is to provide a secure, efficient and
extensible server that provides HTTP services in sync with the current HTTP
standards.

Apache has been the most popular web server on the Internet since April
1996. The November 2005 Netcraft Web Server Survey found that more than 70%
of the web sites on the Internet are using Apache, thus making it more
widely used than all other web servers combined.

The Apache HTTP Server is a project of the Apache Software Foundation.

The OS/2 build was built using Innotek GCC v3.3.5 CSD1 version and requires
the runtime dll from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip

A number of bugs are resolved in this build, including:
- erroneous error messages "[error] (OS 10004)Unknown error -1:
apr_socket_accept" in logs
- httpd.pid not being removed when Apache2 is closed.
- various changes in the Apache Portable Runtime

Note that the issues with PHP failing if modules other than modphp4/modphp5
are loaded are still unresolved.

General feedback can be provided to paul@smedley.info, bug reports should
go to http://mantis.smedley.info

Thanks to Brian Havard for doing most of the hard work to get Apache2 to
run with EMX, and to Knut for making GCC/libc so great!

If you like this software and want to support continued ports, please
consider donating via PayPal via the link at http://smedley.info/os2ports.html

Cheers,

Paul Smedley

SW: DOSBox frontend 2.7 (for DosBox 0.65)

2006-05-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: From: Chris Roossien (roossienDESPAM@DESPAMgmail.com)

"DOSBox is a DOS-emulator portable (and ported) to many platforms. A port
was made feasible by the implementation of SDL on OS/2. For more
infomation, visit the homepage of DOSBox http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/ .
Since DOSBox/2 is a regular OS/2 application, there is no need to have
DOS-based drivers for video and sound support - everything is passed
through and handled by OS/2."

Updated dosboxfront for the new DosBox version 0.65.
Don't use it with DosBox 0.63.
