In December, SCOUG tradition has us bringing our OS/2 and computer-related
castoffs to share with others. Come enjoy this holiday meeting with folks
who thrive on the best operating system on the planet. Specifically, we'll
enjoy:

* Tesseract OCR, presented by Ray Davision. Tesseract OCR was ported
by Franz Baken and seems to do a pretty good job.

* PM Programming - Hello Newer World, presented by Bob Blair.
* Holiday Raffle (bring your stuff!)

Don't forget to bring your questions, too - it gives you a great
opportunity to work the kinks out of your systems. Free coffee and donuts,
too. What more could you ask for? See you on Saturday.

SW: Scribus ported to OS/2 & eComStation

2006-12-17
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

I've just added an OS/2 & eComStation build of Scribus v1.3.3.6
(http://www.scribus.net) to http://smedley.info/os2ports

Scribus is an open-source program that brings award-winning professional
page layout to Linux/Unix, MacOS X and Windows desktops with a combination
of "press-ready" output and new approaches to page layout.

Underneath the modern and user friendly interface, Scribus supports
professional publishing features, such as CMYK color, separations, ICC
color management and versatile PDF creation.

The OS/2 & eComStation build requires libc061.dll - which is available from
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip

Known issues:
- Scribus currently expects/demands to be in the root directory - ie \scribus
- After exiting scribus, you'll see some errors about loading icon files
in the standard output - these are under investigation
- scribus plugins are currently not available
- after adding text in a text box, the text isn't visible until a screen
redraw is done - ie change zoom factor or middle mouse click to force a redraw
- If a file called fonts.conf doesn't exist in %HOME%\fonts.conf, one
will be created automatically when scribus.exe is run for the first time,
however, Scribus will crash with signal 11. On the 2nd attempt to load
scribus.exe, it will load fine.

General feedback can be provided to paul@smedley.info, bug reports should
go to http://mantis.smedley.info

If you like this software and want to support continued ports, please
consider donating via PayPal via the link at http://smedley.info/os2ports,
or via the Mensys online store at http://www.mensys.net/os2ports

Cheers,

Paul Smedley

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Dave Saville

Clipview 3.2 is released

http://www.deezee.org/ClipView.html

New features bug fixes etc:

Added -A switch "Autosave on Copy".
Added -b switch "Browse on URL Capture".
Added "Process Clip Through".
Added "www." to URL detection for browse option.
Changed C compiler to gcc 3.3.5, so now need Innotek libc not EMX.
Fixed file type for temp file used in clip editing.
Fixed crash with empty .ClipSave file.

Clipview is now NLS ready.
Supported languages are: Dutch, French, German & Swedish.
Please note that only the Swedish version is at the 3.2 level.
The others are in the process of being updated from 3.1.
Check the web site for the latest.

If you want your language and are prepared to translate then
drop me an email for the files etc..

N.B. ClipView 2.5 & above uses a changed .ClipSave format.
It is NOT backwards compatible.
Upgrading from earlier versions should not present any problems.

I don't know about you, but I always seem to want to paste what I clipped
three operations back :-) So I wrote ClipView, based on the Unix program
cutview.

The Clipview suite of programs consists of:

ClipView v3.2 - Gives multiple text clipboards. Clips may be printed,
edited, saved to a buffer and locked. Optionally the entire set of clips
and their state can be saved across invocations of ClipView.

ClipPrint v1.2 - Prints the current text contents of the clipboard.

PipeClip v2.3 - Used on the command line to pipe output to the clipboard.
eg dir /w | pipeclip

ClipPipe v1.0 - Used on the command line to pipe input from the clipboard.
eg clippipe | someprogram

ClipWait v1.0 - Used in scripts to wait until something gets written to
the clipboard.

CV_Client_OS2 2.1 } These are now considered stable.
} They allow clipboards to communicate
CV_Server_OS2 2.1 } across machines.

CV_Client_WIN 2.1 } These are considered Beta.
} They allow clipboards to communicate
CV_Server_WIN 2.1 } across machines.

SW: DFSee version 8.09 released

2006-12-22
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Jan van Wijk

DFSee version 8.09 has just been released.

There is a 'serial' command to set the volume serial number, and several
useful items have been added to the DFSee menu. All buffer handling has
been reworked to allow arbitrary sectorsizes (like 4Kb on the new
generation harddisks :-)

The new 'Bootmanager menu Delete' in the menu now also gets rid of those
annoying '--> LVM' names that sometimes remained on the IBM bootmanager menu.

DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with disk partitioning, filesystem
and disk analysis, file recovery, UNDELETE for HPFS JFS, and NTFS,
resizing, imaging, cloning and sector editing.

More details at:
http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/

Direct download links from the DFSee website:

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/dfsee8xx.zip

http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/dfsee8xx_iso.zip
http://www.dfsee.com/dfsee/dfsee8xx_dsk.zip

Note: Most of these can also be downloaded using '809'
instead of the generic '8xx' version number

Or from the HOBBES website:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/dfsee809.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=dfsee

Most important functional changes since 8.08:

- BUFFERS Changed ALL code to use variable sectorsize (like 4Kb)
- DFSCHECK Increased imz size to 600 sectors (2*FAT+ROOT)
- FAT INIT Detect corrupted 'EA DATA .SF' data files at init
- FILEFIND -a option, to find any/all files, deleted and normal
- FIXBOOT JFS, fixed label for bootable JFS (was 'footable':-)
- FS MENU Added selection for any/all filefind HPFS,NTFS,JFS
- FS MENU Change volume serial number in 'Boot area fix/update'
- LVM MENU BMGR menu delete removes obsolete '--> LVM' string too
- LVM MENU Explicit menu item 'Bootmanager menu Delete'
- MENU JFS text now 'Unmounted & Clean' for consistency
- PART BSIZE buffers allow 2 4Kb sectors, fix 'GPT' crash
- PART -b Linux style table with start/end and size in blocks
- RESTORE Dialog and -S option use start-sector from IMZ hdr
- SERIAL Change volume serial nr on FAT(32), HPFS, JFS and NTFS

Still in time for Christmas :-) I have just released new versions of my
enhanced Mozilla based apps:

- SeaMonkey 1.1b4 (standard and highmem versions)
close to the soon-to-be released version 1.1final
- PmW-Fx 2.0.0.1
corresponding to the Firefox 2.0.0.1 release
- PmW-Tb 2.0b2
approximately corresponding to the mozilla.org Thunderbird 2.0beta release
They are all based on Gecko 1.8.1.

These releases pick up all the official changes done by Mozilla.
OS/2 specific changes from previous versions include:
- Built again with GCC 3.2.2, this should fix restart problems and
difficulties with multiple profile for Fx and Tb. You hence again
need the old libc05.dll from Innotek's libc051 package (see README).
- This is _not_ true for the "highmem" version of SeaMonkey. That can
only be made with GCC 3.3.5 and requires libc061 from Netlabs
(see README, sorry for the confusion!).

- Fix xpicleanup crashes when it is started standalone
- Fix issue of stuff jumping around when toolbar overflows (Fx, Tb)
- Make new toolbar higher (Fx, Tb)
- Fix of POP3 file truncation problem (Tb, SeaMonkey)
- Support more registry branches for Innotek Font Engine
- README.txt improvements
- Downloads now work with TMP and forward slashes
- The directory dialog doesn't crash any more
- Thunderbird Language Packs from

http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/nightly/latest-mozilla1.8-l10n/windows-xpi/
should work this time (Tb)
- Fix upside down display of Canvases (Fx, SeaMonkey)
- Fix color/blackness issue of Canvases on 32bit color displays
(Fx, SeaMonkey)
Note: Canvases are still broken on Matrox (Fx, SeaMonkey)

As a change from all previous versions, the packages are now available for
download from the "Warpzilla Enhanced" project on SourceForge:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=183811 [I sympathize
with everybody who does not like the sf.net interface but I didn't find any
other option for such a low price...]

I also have to point out that I will try to focus on more urgent new
development for Gecko 1.9 (i.e. Firefox 3) in the next weeks. While I will
try to follow discussions in this newsgroup I will not reply as much as
before. Same goes for responses to personal email...

Well, before going into hiding mode I hope that I can still do the last
batch of updates for the Gecko 1.8.0 branch, i.e. PmW-Fx/Tb 1.5.0.9 and
SeaMonkey 1.0.7.

Happy holidays!
Peter
