SW: SciTech SNAP Graphics technology is for sale!

2006-11-16
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Kendall Bennett News://www-1.scitechsoft.com scitech.snap.graphics.os2

SciTech Software Inc. Announces that the Complete Source Code to its
Leading Edge Graphics Driver Technology SciTech SNAP Graphics is for Sale

Chico, California -- (November 16, 2006) -- SciTech Software, Inc. today
announced that it has ceased further development of its SNAP device
driver technology in favor of a new line of web and business logic
technologies. SciTech also announced that it would begin looking for a
buyer for the companys existing core technology, SciTech SNAP. SciTech
SNAP represents both a massive code base as well as a major advancement
in the field of operating system independent device driver development.
With existing support for well in excess of 240 unique graphics
chipsets, HD and AC97 audio codecs, and nearly a dozen APIs and
operating systems, SciTech is confident that the technology will attract
the attentions of a well qualified buyer. Interested parties should
email Andrew Bloo at the following email address: andrewb@scitechsoft.com

It is with great sadness that we have come to the end of the road for
SciTech as a team said Andrew Bloo, SciTechs outgoing CEO, adding, I
believe very strongly in the solutions that we have created and am
admittedly disappointed by this outcome.

SciTech Snap Graphics is a unique solution that provides an unrivaled
level of support and features sets to the embedded industrial market
segments. Leading edge companies have also used SciTech SNAP as a means
of supporting operating system and hardware, which are no longer
supported by their original developers. In addition to this SciTech SNAP
also has an advanced set of supporting tools, which ensure its
compatibility with a wide range of hardware solutions.

Having spent the past 15 years following my own compass in the pursuit
of the perfect device driver solution I find myself now at a major cross
roads in terms of the future direction of SciTech said Kendall Bennett,
SciTech Founder and returning CEO. Computer hardware technology has
reached a level of maturity that we as a small company can no longer
adequately maintain, and hope a potential buyer can realize the full
potential of SciTech SNAP."

About SciTech:
SciTech Software, Inc. is a leading supplier of PC graphics and Audio
utilities, drivers, tools for the embedded, industrial and enterprise
markets and consulting services. SciTech's products include, SciTech

SW: Adobe and Mozilla Foundation Announce Tamarin Project

2006-11-19
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Daniel Kruse

The Mozilla Foundation and Adobe Systems Inc. have announced that Adobe has
contributed source code for the virtual machine used in Adobe Flash Player
to the Mozilla Foundation.

Adobe Flash Player 9 executes applications written in ActionScript 3.0, a
programming language that is based on the ECMAScript language
specification. Javascript, the scripting language developed by Netscape,
and used in the Firefox web browser, is also based on the ECMAScript standard.

Mozilla Foundation will host a new open source project, called Tamarin,
using the virtual machine code contributed by Adobe. Brendan Eich, author
of Javascript, has written a weblog post welcoming Tamarin developers to
Mozilla. Frank Hecker has written a detailed description of the Tamarin
project. Mitchell Baker has written her thoughts on how Tamarin ties up
with the goals of Mozilla.

From: Roderick Klein

Mensys has an updated HOBBES DVD. It has updated last week. Previous
release was November 2005. It contains well over 4 GB of software from the
famous Hobbes filearchive (http://hobbes.nmsu.edu). People who were used
to receiving the Walnut Creek HOBBES CD ROM kit will like this DVD. The
DVD offers a convenient webinterface, which can be either used to browse
the contents or even search for a specific file.

Of each DVD sold, Mensys will transfer 2 Euro to the New Mexico State
University to support the Hobbes server.
