For Developers Only:-
===============
WINMETA LIBRARY
===============
This library paints windows metafiles. It should cope with most metafiles,
including WMF and EMF types. If you get a metafile that doesn't work, and
it's not too big, please send it to manglais.com, where it can be checked.
This library will tend to go where the metafile commands lead it - usually
off the screen. So it's best if you create an OS/2 metafile or a bitmap
from the Windows Metafile, and then paint that where you actually want it
to be!
This library is extracted from the Maul Publisher metafile handler, where
it works fine, this extracted code has not been independantly tested.
Please let me know if it works, or if it doesn't!
You can use this library in any OS/2 application or dll, commercial or
otherwise. It's a new work, and will sometimes behave differently to
libraries from other sources, often I have gone to the trouble to implement
features not found in open source libraries.
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=winmeta
Full instructions are included for developers. I'm sorry but end users will
have to wait and see if developers will make use of this library, and/or
let the appropriate developers know they want it.

This message contains news about: ACPI subsystem, eComStation kernel, USB
Tools homepage, Hardware database, JRescuer, General Network Utilities,
OpenVPN, Personal Cards Manager, eSchemes gallery, Bootable JFS.
How many companies are needed to keep eComStation community in tone? Any
company is able publish one newsletter per month (developers of industrial
solutions can publish news about updates of own libraries and tools;
developers of shareware should announce updates of old projects and new
products). Seems that 30 companies are able keep all users in tone every
day and bring assurance of success. Here is the list of companies working
on eComStation market -- http://ecomstation.ru/solutions/?action=companies
1. ACPI drivers
* Installation procedure changed significantly! Please read docs again.
* Please inform us if poweroff.exe or PowerOff button do not work on your
computer. If PCI devices are not visible by drivers after installation of
ACPI then immediately inform us.
* New APM.ADD 1.9 (requires ACPI 2.17), Whatsnew: Fixed C state for Uni,
added HLT/Cx for SMP, fixed acpidaemon logging, S3 state Fix.
* New ACPI snooper (2.17), You need it if running Core 2 Duo in APIC mode
or to solve IRQ conflicts
ACPI is available via eComStation beta-zone -- http://betazone.ecomstation.nl
Current target: improve support of Thinkpads.
2. Disk utilities
Download updated JRescuer -- http://ecomstation.ru/june
JRescuer (JUne) best-seller is aimed to undelete files from JFS volume,
recover files from damaged JFS volume.
3. USB applications
We updated the list of existing drivers and applications which control USB
hardware -- http://ecomstation.ru/usbtools
USB Dock database is updated. Download USB Dock from eComStation beta-zone.
4. Internet utilities:
* General network utilities were updated -- http://ecomstation.ru/gnu
GNU are aimed to collect TCP/IP information, diagnose and solve network
problems, optimize IP settings for your computer. Whatsnew: many utilities
are updated.
* OpenVPN to eComStation is updated. Whatsnew: Significant increase of
speed. OpenVPN (http://openvpn.net) is a full-featured SSL VPN solution.
Download beta from hobbes --
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=openvpn&pushbutton=Search
5. eComStation kernel
Whatsnew:
* Rudi updated OEMHLP$ driver.
* HLT added to minimize Power Consumption (use it if CPU cooler is loud)
This features may be activated via ACPI driver. Download eComStation kernel
from eComStation beta-zone.
6. WorkPlace Shell extenders
* Personal Cards Manager, download updated version and fixpak --
http://ecomstation.ru/pcm
This project is important for us. If users support it, we can create dosenz
of applications to keep data on desktop.
Whatsnew: fixed small bugs, improved installation procedure. Use address
books as Groups, keep all cards in address books only.
* Who said that eComStation desktop is ugly? Visit eSchemes gallery --
http://forum.ecomstation.ru/viewtopic.php?t=1703
read the rules before posting new screenshots. The gallery is a perfect
place to advertise your applications!
* Updated eStyler (you need it if testing eCS 2.0 beta 3), available from
eComStation betazone
7. eCo Software support service
eCo Software support service recommends install 2 copies of eComStation on
every PC. This simple rule significantly simplifies:
* recovery of system in case of small or large troubles;
* simplifies setup of modern eComStation drivers when many reboots are needed
* simplifies upgrade to new version of eComStation (replace unnecessary
copy of eCS with new version)
The hardware database contains more than 1090 reports of supported hardware
-- http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php
You can post new reports or add notes to published. Now gathering reports
about supported Barebones --
http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=category§ion=brand
and Industrial PCs --
http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=category§ion=ind
8. Collaboration with other developers:
eComStation developers and Willibald Meyer fixed bug in Bootable JFS: "JFS
booter is reading files located above 4 Gb not properly", please download
updated UJFS.DLL from eComStation beta-zone -- http://betazone.ecomstation.nl

| SW: PHP 5.2.1 Released! |
2007-02-11
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++
From: Paul Smedley
Hi All,
As per the below official announcement, there is now an OS/2 & eComStation
binary of PHP 5.2.1 available from http://smedley.info/os2ports
Please read the readme.os2 file included in the binary for the release notes.
Cheers,
Paul.
-------- Original Message --------
Subject: [ANNOUNCE] PHP 5.2.1 Released!
Date: Thu, 8 Feb 2007 20:29:28 -0500
From: Ilia Alshanetsky
To: php-announceDESPAM@DESPAMlists.php.net
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
The PHP development team would like to announce the immediate availability
of PHP 5.2.1. This release is a major stability and security enhancement of
the 5.X branch, and all users are strongly encouraged to upgrade to it as
soon as possible.
Security Enhancements and Fixes in PHP 5.2.1:
* Fixed possible safe_mode & open_basedir bypasses inside the session
extension.
* Prevent searchs engine from indexing the phpinfo() page.
* Fixed a number of input processing bugs inside the filter extension.
* Fixed unserialize() abuse on 64 bit systems with certain input strings.
* Fixed possible overflows and stack corruptions in the session extension.
* Fixed an underflow inside the internal sapi_header_op() function.
* Fixed allocation bugs caused by attempts to allocate negative values in
some code paths.
* Fixed possible stack overflows inside zip, imap & sqlite extensions.
* Fixed several possible buffer overflows inside the stream filters.
* Fixed non-validated resource destruction inside the shmop extension.
* Fixed a possible overflow in the str_replace() function.
* Fixed possible clobbering of super-globals in several code paths.
* Fixed a possible information disclosure inside the wddx extension.
* Fixed a possible string format vulnerability in *print() functions on
64 bit systems.
* Fixed a possible buffer overflow inside mail() and
ibase_{delete,add,modify}_user() functions.
* Fixed a string format vulnerability inside the odbc_result_all() function.
* Memory limit is now enabled by default.
* Added internal heap protection.
* Extended filter extension support for $_SERVER in CGI and apache2 SAPIs.
The majority of the security vulnerabilities discovered and resolved can in
most cases be only abused by local users and cannot be triggered remotely.
However, some of the above issues can be triggered remotely in certain
situations, or exploited by malicious local users on shared hosting setups
utilizing PHP as an Apache module. Therefore, we strongly advise all users
of PHP, regardless of the version to upgrade to 5.2.1 release as soon as
possible. PHP 4.4.5 with equivalent security corrections will be available
shortly.
The key improvements of PHP 5.2.1 include:
* Several performance improvements in the engine, streams API and some
Windows specific optimizations.
* PDO_MySQL now uses buffered queries by default and emulates prepared
statements to bypass limitations of MySQL's prepared statement API.
* Many improvements and enhancements to the filter and zip extensions.
* Memory limit is now always enabled, this includes Windows builds, with
a default limit of 128 megabytes.
* Added several performance optimizations using faster Win32 APIs (this
change means that PHP no longer supports Windows 98).
* FastCGI speed optimized build of PHP for Windows made available for
downloading.
* Over 180 bug fixes.
For users upgrading from PHP 5.0 and PHP 5.1, an upgrade guide is available
at http://www.php.net/UPDATE_5_2.txt, detailing the changes between those
releases and PHP 5.2.1.
For a full list of changes in PHP 5.2.1, see the ChangeLog (
http://www.php.net/ChangeLog-5.php#5.2.1 ).

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++
From: Paul Smedley
Just added to http://smedley.info/os2ports
Perl 5.8.8 for OS/2 & eComStation
Release Notes:
1) built with libc06 CSD1 so libc061.dll is required - this can be
downloaded from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip
2) All bug reports should be submitted via the bug tracker at
http://mantis.smedley.info
See the COPYING file for details on the Perl license
Note that this build of Perl is coded to look in u:/perl/lib for its libraries.
If your Perl is installed somewhere else, you need to set an environment
variable to tell Perl the install location, ie:
set PERLIB_PREFIX=u:/perl/lib;x:/path/to/perl/lib
I am VERY interested in feedback on this release - I've been using it to
run SpamAssassin for the last month or so with no problems.
If you like this software and want to support continued ports, please
consider donating via PayPal via the link in the footer at
http://smedley.info/os2ports or via the Mensys online store at
http://www.mensys.net/os2ports

It appears that as part of the deal that microsoft settled with the State
of Iowa, the evidence for the case now requires a Userid/password to
access. I guess all the video testimony from Gates made for bad press and
might inspire other states to try to get some justice. Have to keep all
that criminal activity a secret.
Unfortunately I didn't download the document and it is no longer in my
FireFox cache that I can find. If I find the document available somewhere
else I will send another update.

This month, we are going to start with a demo of *OpenOffice.org
v2.0.4RC1*. It now does PDF export and integrates with the Innotek Font
Engine. We don't yet know who the presenter is going to be, but a suitable
volunteer will have stepped up by the time the meeting starts.
Next mystery presenter #2 will show us *Lucide v1.0*. We will find out how
it handles an OpenOffice.org PDF.
This will be followed by a session of the Saturday General Meeting *Live
Help Desk*. We have two problem cases to solve:
* Sheridan's going to bring his solid-state system and we will
continue our attempts to make it run solidly.
* Ray's going going to bring his mystery system which to date has
resisted his efforts to install eCS1.2R.
We will finish up the meeting with an installment of Bob Blair's on-going
*PM Programming - Hello Newer World* tutorial.
In between all this, there will be plenty of coffee and donuts.
Come with questions for our systems experts. Enjoy the free coffee and
donuts. Participate in a great meeting. See you on Saturday.
