SW: DBCSMAP v1.0 released

2007-02-26
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Alex Taylor

I've released (Feb. 25) version 1.0 of DBCSMAP (Double Byte Character Map
for OS/2).

DBCSMAP is an OS/2 character map program for Unicode and selected DBCS
codepages. Specifically, it supports the Unicode Basic Multilingual Plane,
as well as the common OS/2 codepages for Chinese (Traditional and
Simplified), Japanese, and Korean.

Characters from these DBCS codepages can be copied to the clipboard as
codepage-specific text (or UTF-8 in the case of Unicode text), and in
"text/unicode" format as supported by Mozilla.

DBCSMAP is free software licensed under the GNU GPL.

The latest version is available on Hobbes:
Currently: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/dbcsmap-1_0.zip
Later:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/international/dbcsmap-1_0.zip
Source code is also available in the same location.

NOTE: It has not yet been uploaded to my website, due to technical
difficulties. (They seem to have been doing some kind of server
maintenance over reading week, and now I can't log in anymore.)

The previously-uploaded screenshots on my website are, however, still
applicable to this version:

SW: Current SVN Uniaud code Built - test version available

2007-02-27
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

I had some free time this afternoon so given the situation we're in
regarding uniaud, I spent a couple of hours working on compiling it.

I found several cases of borked makefiles and some missing files that I
managed to workaround.

A uniaud32.sys compiled by me is available from
http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32.zip

This is basically the SVN code where vladest finished off, except a few
files are updated from alsa source as they were missing in svn.

This driver works for me on my laptop and desktop machines, as well as on
Mike Greene's SMP machine (where Uniaud 1.1.4RC2 failed).

Note that I built this more out of curiosity than anything else - I don't
know that I know enough about device driver development (well knowing
something would be a good start!!!!) to continue to support this - however
I do think I'm capable of updating the alsa portions of the code.

Currently I'm basically just interested in whether this works for people
**who already have a working uniaud32.sys**.

[Moderator note: This is just the updated uniaud32.sys file. You need to
have first installed the full UNIAUD driver from netlabs.org for all the
associated files. ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/uniaud The last full driver
was uniaud_28012007_testcase.zip which includes both uniaud32.sys and
uniaud16.sys. The last complete archive that included an install batch
file, unimix and associated files was uniaud114RC2.zip ]

Thanks in advance,

SW: eComStation 2.0 Beta 4 available

2007-02-27
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: : Joachim Benjamins

Serenity Systems International and Mensys BV are pleased to announce the
availability of eComStation 2.0 Beta 4.

This release is available to customers with an active Software
Subscriptions Services subcription.

== CHANGES ==

** Disk Resizer GUI **

This beta has a custom DFSee engine that enables reliable RESIZING of FAT32
and NTFS filesystems to allow shrinking an existing Windows installation to
make room for eComStation on the same system.

The GUI to this tool has been updated and is now using a graphical
interface. To invoke it, please select 'Paritition Resizing Tool' from the
Installation Volume Manager which can be called during installation.

** GenMac support **

This package provides generic driver support for several network interface
cards under OS/2 and eComStation. Moreover, Genmac is enabled to support
WPA encryption with the Wireless LAN Monitor 3.x or better.

Genmac and the Wireless LAN monitor will be installed when the appropriate
hardware is detected by the installer. If it is not detected, you can
manually select the driver in the network installation dialog.

Since the previous beta, GenMac installation has improved considerably.

** multicore CPU support **

This beta supports the installation of eComStation on a MultiCore CPU
computer. This includes Intel Core Duo, Core2 Duo and AMD 64 X2. To enable
this support, please select the appropriate feature in the installer
hardware page.

** ACPI 2.18 **

ACPI support has been updated to the latest available version (2.18) which
results in varying successrate. Testers with nVidia based computers report
more problems than before, others report more success than ever.

As always, the following applies:

!!! WHEN TESTING BETA SOFTWARE, ALWAYS BE SURE TO HAVE A TRIED AND TESTED
BACK OF YOUR SYSTEM !!!

== REPORTING ==

To tell us your findings, please create a report at:

http://www.ecomstation.com/support/beta4report/

You are also welcome to join the TestTeam if you want to discuss this beta
and future developments. See http://ewiki.ecomstation.nl/TestTeam for more
details.

== FAQ ==

At the reporting page above there are some FAQ entries to be found with
valuable tips for installation. Please make sure to review these in case of
problems.

== SOFTWARE SUBSCRIPTION SERVICES ==

Please note that although some subscriptions have expired by now, you are
not required to purchase a renewal to obtain the GA version of eComStation 2.0.

2007-02-28
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

An OS/2 & eComStation port of Samba Server v3.0.24 is now available at
http://smedley.info/os2ports

Samba is an Open Source/Free Software suite that has, since 1992, provided
file and print services to all manner of SMB/CIFS clients, including the
numerous versions of Microsoft Windows operating systems. Samba is freely
available under the GNU General Public License.

(Note that print support is currently unavailable).

This is based partly on the Netlabs port of v3.0.9 of the Samba Server,
however currently does NOT require Security/2

Notes of setting it up and status of testing of different clients can be
found at http://smedley.info/os2ports/samba.html

Feedback is appreciated.

Thanks,

Paul.

technology based on eComStation. Here is the overview on russian language:
Interactive FM radiostations in Russia. 'Interactive' means that
listeners are sending SMS/email/phone messages to RadioDJ and his guests.
SMSRC32 and eComStation are used to gather & process such SMS messages.

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the
system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating
system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by
year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed
support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions
competitive.

Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital
restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical
appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA),
CMMS, restaurants, etc.

Why should you write the story today?
* You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
* OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will
read the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about
your company and products among own colleagues.
* The developer of the operating system will get information about your
requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
* Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
* It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.

Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions
list since 2002. Yyou can publish german, dutch, english texts there.

How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add
Introduction, add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2
advertisement photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating
usage of OS/2. Send the story to e-mail: support (at) ecomstation.ru

Welcome to homepage of solutions! --
