SW: Mozilla Lightning 0.5 for OS/2 Has Been Released

2007-07-01
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Lightning 0.5 has been released for OS/2.

Lightning is Mozilla's nicely integrated calendar application "Add-on"
(extension) for Thunderbird. It is based off of the same backend code as
Mozilla Sunbird, yet as an extension, weighs in at only 1.1 MB.

The following is listed as new in this release:

# Much more polished user interface in the calendar views
# Event invitations can be sent and received via iMIP/iTIP
# Working hours are back
# Automatic migration of data in Sunbird 0.2, iCal.app, and Evolution
# Much improved printing functionality
# Better integration into Thunderbird (Printing, Undo/redo, Copy/paste)
# Support for Google Calendar (via Google Calendar Provider extension)
# Vastly improved reliability
# Many performance improvements
# Many usability improvements

NOTE: The Lightning link for OS/2's official version of Thunderbird 2.x
(currently 2.0.0.4) is INCORRECT on Mozilla's contributed releases page.
It is based on the wrong libc DLL version. The correct link is:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.5/contrib/os2/lightning-0.5.en-US.os2_libc05.xpi

For the PmW-tb 2.0.0.4 (unofficial) OS/2 release, the link is:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.5/contrib/os2/lightning-0.5.en-US.os2_libc063.xpi

From: Netlabs.org

Hi all,
Just a few days away!

You wanted to be at Developer WorkShop 2007, but could not come?

A real pity, but we will provide facilities to be there virtually :-)

We will be providing OGG streams and a webcam with pictures (no realtime
video yet).
And you can participate by asking questions via the #netlabs IRC channel!

Look for details at the DWS website at:
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2007

All presentations will be put online afterwards as well, of course.

Netlabs.org relies on your support as well, we hire developers to have
better progress on projects. For sure this costs money so any sponsoring is

SW: Latest GenMAC 2.1 experimental version available on request!

2007-07-04
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: genmacDESPAM@DESPAMgodawa.de

Hi,

the latest GenMAC 2.1 experimental version is available for testing.

If you have any of the supported hardware write an e-mail to

genmac AT godawa DOT de

And I will send you the driver for testing!

This new version supports (in addition to the old ones) following devices:

- Atheros AR5213A 802.11abg Wireless MiniPCI Card [168C:0013], tested by
Willibald
- Atheros AR5005G 802.11abg Wireless Network Adapter [168C:001A], mostly
not tested yet, may not work
- Atheros AR5006XS 802.11abg Wireless Network Adapter [168C:001B], tested
with D-Link DWL-AG660 CardBus only, needs CBENABLE/PCICONF
- Atheros AR5001X+ Wireless Network Adapter [168C:1014], tested by
Willibald only

- Intel 82566DC Gigabit Network Connection [8086:104B], poorly tested,
only in wrapper-mode
- Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection [8086:109A], very good tested,
works in native- and wrapper-mode
- Intel PRO/1000 PL Network Connection [8086:10B9], poorly testet, partly
working, maybe better in native-mode

- Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection [8086:4222], poorly
tested, but works on several systems, not working with xWLAN
- Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection [8086:4227], good tested

- 3Com 3C90xC PCI [10B7:9201]
- 3Com 3C920 Integrated Fast Ethernet Controller [10B7:9201], poorly tested

The driver is still EXPERIMENTAL and was NOT tested with a lot of devices
but I have already several "success-stories"!

While older versions did not support plain NetBIOS, this version should
work with all protocols including NetBIOS, TCP/IP and NetBIOS over TCP/IP.
But this is still poorly testet, so please report if it works for you or not!

This driver also works correctly with XWLAN 3.0 if a supported WLAN-card is
connected.

Good luck,

Thorolf

2007-07-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Walter Meinl

I'm glad to announce that we are back again with these extensions at the
respective homepages for download http://enigmail.mozdev.org/download.html
updated to 0.95.2, it's not only for Thunderbird 2.0.0.x but also for
Seamonkey 1.1.x libc05 versions for the official builds and 0.63 versions
for Peters unofficial builds.

"Enigmail is an extension to the mail client of Mozilla Thunderbird and
Mozilla Seamonkey which allows users to access the authentication and
encryption features provided by GnuPG (see screenshots
http://enigmail.mozdev.org/screenshots.html ). Enigmail is open source and
dually-licensed under the GNU General Public License and the Mozilla Public
License. "

The same versioning scheme for lightning-0.5 (available only for TB)
http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/calendar/lightning/releases/0.5/contrib/os2/
I'll take care for the future of these 2 extensions, Have fun and report
regressions here please

"Lightning brings the Sunbird calendar to the popular email client, Mozilla
Thunderbird. Since it's an extension, Lightning is tightly integrated with
Thunderbird, allowing it to easily perform email-related calendaring tasks."

SW: Updated 'oo' - a commandline WPS tool v1.10

2007-07-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Rich Walsh

A new version of 'oo' - a WPS commandline tool - is now available.

'oo' v1.10 can be used from a prompt or in a script to: open, locate, and
list WPS objects, assign setup strings, popup objects' menus, even "drop"
files on program objects.

v1.10 adds new commands that make it a complete replacement for REXX's WPS
functions like SysCreateObject or SysCopyObject. Beside being able to do
more than REXX can, 'oo' is also more versatile: you can give it the path
to any kind of object, not just files or folders (e.g. program objects,
shadows, etc).

To accommodate the new features, several existing commands and options have
been changed. Refer to 'oo.txt' for a comprehensive description or run
'oo' without any parameters for a concise help screen.

You can get 'oo' from:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=oo110.zip
or

SW: Iconomize v0.80 & FPos v0.80

2007-07-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Rich Walsh

New versions of my ini maintenance utilities, Iconomize and FPos (v0.80)
are now available. Both are maintenance updates that take advantage of the
improved stability and reliability provided by the latest release of Remote
Workplace Server, RWS08.

FPos
----
Have you ever wondered why checkini reports "folder position for non-folder
object"? Have you ever wondered what all those entries under
PM_Workplace:FolderPos were for? FPos answers these questions. Once you
know what theu do, you'll probably want to delete most of them. Using FPos
to clean up this entry can reduce the size of your os2.ini quite considerably.

Iconomize
---------
This unique tool lets you eliminate the single largest source of bloat in
os2.ini: duplicate icon data. If you haven't used it before, running
Iconomize just once can reduce the size of your os2.ini anywhere from 10%
to 25%.

You can get these freeware utils from hobbes:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=fpos080.zip
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=iconomize080.zip

or from:
