Use eComStation today, don't wait for miracles.
Cycle of eComStation life:
a) users are investing into software/OS updates --
http://ecomstation.ru/poll.php?action=show&id=23
b) The developers are generating applications and tools.

Feel the power of eComStation NeoWPS desktop -- http://ecomstation.ru/neowps

* Upgrade eCo Software runtimes (March 3, 2008) --
http://ecomstation.ru/ecosoft/runtime.php

* NeoWPS includes original set of new eComStation icons.
We replaced 1/3 of icons. Are you going to use eComStation in 2010?
then you need fresh icons included to NeoWPS.

* Sunny icons -- huge fast transparent icons on your desktop (updated in
February)

* Imagination -- preview in folders. Try improved version (v.3.10)
(Check the runtime before installation)

* eSchemes is updated. eSchemes is a huge important project.
It makes eCS useful for new (home/office) eComStation users.
whatsnew: STABLE eSchemes 1.46 version is released; Read the installation
instructions in advance!

* Central Remote Control
whatsnew: CRC utility: Talking clock (send us more voices)

* Personal cards manager -- it is aimed to keep *all your contacts*
whatsnew: fixed hangs; new cards are compressed.

eCo Software is going include two useful applications to NeoWPS!

SW: FM/2 3.10 has been released

2008-03-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Gregg Young

FM/2 3.10 a full featured file manager has been released It can be found
at: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/fm2 moving to
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/fm2 and on hobbes
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/fm2-3-10-0.wpi
moving to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/browser/fm2-3-10-0.wpi

Fm/2 3.10 adds the ability to set the command line length to correspond to
the command shell you are using. We have moved some menu items to submenus
to reduce menu clutter while adding "unhide" to reveal previously hidden
items and adding a settings notebook submenu to allow selection of the page
you wish to visit. We have updated the look of several dialogs and
containers including adding the ability to remember size location and
presentation parameters. We have reworked the the save state on close so it
will save the different states of multiple directory containers and in
greater detail. This state can also be restore at anytime during a session
by selecting it from the "States" drop down. We have provided better
progress indicators to update the progress of long operations. We now
provide both the SYM & MAP files in a separate warpin package. This will
allow interested individuals the tools needed to assist with analysing any
problem that may occur. This package is not needed to run FM/2. As always
this update provides some performance enhancements and defect fixes.

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Gregg Young

I have created a new build of FTE (OS/2 version). It incorporates the
latest code from the CVS ( http://fte.sourceforge.net/ ) with Alfredo
Fernandez Diaz's IPF/HTML configuration updates and Spanish language
support and Michael Greene's change including open watcom support. It also
contains minor changes to the menus and fixes some issues with search &
replace in the PM version. It can be found on Hobbes incoming:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/fte-03-02-08.zip
moving to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/editors/fte-03-02-08.zip

Event: Warpstock announcement of Bid Deadline

2008-03-04
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy Willis

The Board of Directors of Warpstock Corporation has placed a deadline on
the receipt of bids from groups or individuals wishing to host Warpstock 2008.

All bids must be received on or before MARCH 15, 2008 by e-mail to:
bidsDESPAM@DESPAMwarpstock.org. Only bids received at this e-mail address
will be considered.

This deadline has been set in order that adequate time is available for all
the necessary planning and preparation to occur. This includes:
* planning by the Event Team to secure the venue;
* planning by the Speaker Committee to arrange presenters; and
* planning by the attendees to get to the site of Warpstock 2008.

The Board of Directors would like to make the announcement of location for
Warpstock 2008 as soon as possible.

Information about the bid process and the requirements for hosting a
Warpstock event will be found on the Warpstock web site at
http://www.warpstock.org/staticpages/index.php?page=bidproc and
http://www.warpstock.org/staticpages/index.php?page=BSO.

This bid should contain a list of the individuals involved, the city or
area in which the event would be held, and the suggested time of year for
the event. The letter of intent may contain any additional information
about the proposed bid that the team wishes to share. It should also
include the benefits of holding the event in their suggested location. This
letter does not need to be in great detail about the proposed event, but
rather, a commitment from the group about entering into the bid process.

The Board of Directors will remain in close contact with the Teams
throughout the entire bid process, including final site selection. The
Board of Directors contains a number of past Event Team members and will be
available to provide support for any group wishing to submit a proposal.

Now is the time to start!

Let's make Warpstock 2008 a most memorable Warpstock!

Warpstock Corporation is a Virginia corporation. The Warpstock annual
conference is a gathering of eCS/OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from
around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More
information is available at the Warpstock web site: http://www.warpstock.org

Net: DevCon: LANGE library

2008-03-04
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

eCo Software recommends to developers migrate to LANGE multi-language
library -- http://ecomstation.ru/lange
This is the optimal solution, much better than gettext, msg files, etc.

The library is used in many applications already! --
http://ecomstation.ru/projects/lange/?action=apps

Please a) care about translators, b) add multi-language support to your
utility to make eComStation truly NLS-ready.

SW: Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 (Official) Has Been Released

2008-03-04
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Michael Kaply has released Mozilla's Thunderbird 2.0.0.12 (Official) for
OS/2, Mozilla's next generation, state of the art, full-featured e-mail,
RSS and newsgroup client. It is OPEN SOURCE, and free. This release
contains several bug fixes, and of note for OS/2, the Cairo support library
(mzfntcfg.dll) with SVG builds is now included. There are also 4 security
vulnerability fixes, including 1 rated critical.

You can download it here:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0.0.12/contrib/thunderbird-2.0.0.12.en-US.os2.zip

NOTE: In the unlikely event that you don't already have it, this release
requires the C runtime DLLs (libc-0.5.1) from Innotek. Version 0.5.1
includes an installer. Available here:

http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe

NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY
other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a
mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second
Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and
use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is
with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To
make life even easier, I recommend that you download & use the Internet
Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually
contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating
your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can
find it here:

http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe

Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip

Thunderbird extensions (add-ons) that add additional functionality are
available here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:1

Thunderbird themes (skins) are available here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:2

A utility to migrate mail from PMMail to Thunderbird is available here:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/mail/reader/pmm_tbird.zip

For more information on the Thunderbird e-mail and newsgroup client:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

For a list of what's new in this release:

http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/releases/

Tips and tricks for Thunderbird can be found here:

http://www.mozilla.org/support/thunderbird/tips

If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox,
Thunderbird, & SeaMonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page
can be found here:

And finally, if you still have questions, or just want to participate in a
Mozilla for OS/2 discussion forum, the Warpzilla newsgroup can be found here:

eComStation developers work very well. The results of 2007 are impressive.
We are working like large corporation but use minimal resources.

Many OS/2 developers are still frozen. Some of them are waiting for
prepayment, other developers don't know what are the goals. Please indicate
them new targets!

Users have posted a dozen of suggestions already:
http://forum.ecomstation.ru/viewforum.php?f=8
("Perfect eComStation" stack)

* For example, you can send a self-made screenshot of future eCS desktop
with improved navigation means.
* Which new PM controls do you need?
* Which applications do you need? Draw fake picture of non-existing
application for eComStation
* Which libraries (runtimes) should be included by default?

Attention: all basic functionality development plans are collected in
Evolutionary Sprint plan --
http://ecomstation.ru/projects/esway/?action=links (minimal plan) "Perfect
eComStation" stack is used to collect revolutionary, non-standard ideas
aimed to attract new users to eComStation (maximum plan).
