Event: Warpstock room block extension

2007-10-18
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy willis

For anyone that hasn't been to the website in a while, the most recent
article is of note:

Have you booked your hotel room yet? Warpstock has a new deadline of
October 21, 2007 to reserve hotel room in the guaranteed room block.

*** NOTE: The hotel has granted us an extension to the cutoff date for our
guaranteed room block until October 21, 2007 ***

Once we reach the cutoff date, any unreserved rooms from our current
reserved block will be released for general sale by the Valhalla Inn.

For details on room registration go to either the Location page on the
Warpstock.org web site
http://www.warpstock.org/staticpages/index.php?page=ws2007_location or
check Fact Sheet 1 - Location
http://www.warpstock.org/filemgmt/visit.php?lid=77

I would suggest booking at Valhalla Inn either by using the toll free phone
number 1-800-268-2500 or by booking via e-mail at
reservations@valhalla-inn.com as the online booking seems to have problems.

Warpstock Corporation is a Virginia corporation. The Warpstock annual
conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from
around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More

SW: Rocksndiamonds-3.2.4 at Hobbes

2007-10-20
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Dave Yeo

Hi, I've built and uploaded the most recent rocksndiamonds (ver 3.2.4) to
hobbes

Hobbes Incoming: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/rocksndiamonds-3.2.4.zip
Hobbes Search:
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?sh=1&button=Search&key=rocksndiamonds-3.2.4

Rocksndiamonds is an arcade style game for Unix, Mac OS X, Windows and DOS
in the tradition of:
+ "Boulder Dash" (C 64/ Apple II)
+ "Emerald Mine" (Amiga)
+ "Supaplex" (Amiga/PC)
+ "Sokoban" (PC)

This is a SDL build so most everything works. The exception is the main
screen does not except keyboard input but works with the mouse. DLLs are
included.

There are lots of levels available at the programs home page,

SW: New enhanced releases of Mozilla applications (Gecko 1.8.1.8

2007-10-20
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Peter Weilbacher

My newest batch of enhanced Mozilla apps
- SeaMonkey 1.1.5 (integrated internet suite, successor of "Mozilla")
- PmW-Fx 2.0.0.8 (internet browser, an enhanced Firefox 2.0.0.8)
- PmW-Tb 2.0.0.8 (eMail client, an enhanced Thunderbird 2.0.0.8)
are available via http://pmw-warpzilla.sf.net/ . Enhancements over the
official versions are
* SVG and Canvas support
* better WPS integration
* MNG/JNG support
* included ipluginw.dll for plugin support
* high memory support
* small improvements

All applications need libc063.dll to run, find the package on
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc

These releases pick up all the changes and several security fixes done by
Mozilla since my Gecko 1.8.1.5 release, i.e. between 21 Jul 2007 and 12 Oct
2007.
Three small OS/2 specific changes were done:
- fix inconsistent arrow button size in Add Bookmark dialog of PmW-Fx
- Save dialog now comes up when running without the WPS
- File extensions of downloaded files are no longer uppercased

Note: I have managed to push a few features into the main source tree (e.g.
EA URL tagging of downloads) that is the reason why some of them are not
listed in the ReadMes any more.

Peter.

SW: Greylisting deamon: Hermes & libspf2

2007-10-20
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Yuri Dario

Hermes is an SMTP proxy. We developed hermes for our own use on ITEISA, and
we have perfected it with new features to cover our own needs. It is now
being made public on the hope that it will help others to stop spam the
same way it does for us everyday. What makes it special is that it can be
used to stop spam using a combination of the following techniques:

SMTP banner delay
Most spammers will start sending data as soon as the connection is
open, without waiting for the SMTP banner. What we do is delay this banner
and if we have data waiting before we print it, we drop the connection.

Throttling
Hermes will process incoming SMTP commands at a slow pace. Most spammers
have very little patience, so they will stop sending an email if it's
taking too long to deliver.

Greylisting
Greylisting is a process that will delay incoming mails for some
minutes before allowing them to be delivered. As most spammers will not
resend their messages, you will not receive them. If you want a more
technical description, scroll down to read a greylisting description.

DNSBL
As of hermes 1.2 you can now configure hermes to reject emails coming
from ips listed on your favourite DNSBL, using the rbl_domain option.

libspf2 implements the Sender Policy Framework, a part of the SPF/SRS
protocol pair. libspf2 is a library which allows email systems such as
Sendmail, Postfix, Exim, Zmailer and MS Exchange to check SPF records and
make sure that the email is authorized by the domain name that it is coming
from. This prevents email forgery, commonly used by spammers, scammers and
email viruses/worms.

The latest OS/2 build for Hermes (and libspf2) can be found here:

SW: Mr. Message (AIM/ICQ client) update 10/22/2007

2007-10-23
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Marty Amodeo

Mr. Message for OS/2 is an instant messenger client which is capable of
communicating over AOL's Instant Messenger network using the OSCAR protocol
(used in the Win32 AIM clients, jBuddy, Pidgin, Kopete, ICQ, and a variety
of other clients).

It has been updated with the following new features:
* Added a total of online/offline/away users to the Buddy Group
mouse-over popup window.
* Added a notation to the Buddy information popup window when a user's
profile or away message is in the process of being retrieved.
* Added the ability to read ICQ user nicknames and real names. If you
don't have an alias assigned for an ICQ user, the nickname or real
name will be automatically set as an alias.
* Added the ability to retrieve off-line messages for ICQ.
* Added the ability to understand "You were added" messages from the
server.
* Added timestamp field to all events passed to REXX scripts. You will
have to modify your existing scripts since the parameter order has
changed! See ReadMe.REXX and sample scripts for details.

It also has the following fixes and changes:
* Fixed a crash on attempting to use the "Pre-processing for Send" event.
* Fixed a number of string-related memory leaks on event processing.
* Fixed ICQ sending HTML tags when they will not be interpretted on the
receiving side.
* Fixed a sloppy shutdown when the session manager window is closed while
sessions are open and running.
* Fixed the wrong status icon for an IM window when a user has just
changed status and the window is opened while the status is flashing in
the buddy list.
* Fixed the inability of ICQ users to set a true "Away" status.
* Changed the automatic retrieval of buddy profile and away messages to
allow better IM throughput while the automatic retrieval is going on.
* Changed window behavior so that when the buddy list is minimized, any
IM windows that happen to be open at the time will not also be
minimized.

To download, please visit the official Mr. Message web page:
http://mamodeo.dyndns.org/MrMessage

New features will continue to be added with each release. :-)
