Event: Warstock Europe 2008: Call for topic suggestions and speakers

2008-04-25
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Christian Hennecke

What topics would you like to see dealt with in presentations and workshops
at this year's Warpstock Europe event? After the success of the last years'
wish lists, a Wiki has been set up again where you can easily enter your
suggestions:

http://www.warpstock.eu/en/agenda/wish_list.html

Please take the time to add some suggestions to this wish list. This will
not only help us in looking for suitable speakers but may also convince
potential speakers that they have something interesting to say and to step
forward.

All those interested in making presentations or conducting workshops are
asked to submit their information to our Session Manager
(infoDESPAM@DESPAMwarpstock.eu) as soon as possible.

If we do not receive any offers to give a presentation about a requested
topic, we will do our best to find an expert on that topic.

The ninth Warpstock Europe conference will be held at the City Hostel in
Düsseldorf, Germany, from November 14 to 16. Warpstock is an annual
conference for the OS/2 and eComStation operating systems and related
technology. It is dedicated to information, education, support, and
exchange and addresses users, developers, and software vendors. To achieve
these goals, the event offers seminars and workshops, exhibition areas, and
room for personal exchange.

More information is available at http://www.warpstock.eu.

Net: Books for eComStation users

2008-04-25
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

eComStation market is changing, new users need books and tutorials.

eCo Software support service published the 3-rd brochure (russian text):
* Frequently asked questions. eComStation drivers: ACPI, JFS, Panorama, USB.

Photo: http://ecomstation.ru/ecoshop/pic/eComStation-Book-Q&Ac.jpg
(A5, 80 pages)

The books are aimed at users and companies which have many computers and
should solve different problems in short time.

The books play important role in the development of eComStation market:
* we can advertise eComStation via bookshops (it's impossible promote eCS
via TV, there are banners in the Internet already)
* this increases the turnover of resellers (extends selection of goods -
good addition to eCS box and electronic shareware products)

SW: SW: Maul Publisher V3.15

2008-04-26
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Peter Koller

Maul Publisher V3.15-25.4.8Ge
=============================
Maul Publisher is an industrial strength desktop publisher capable of
creating virtually all of the printing seen on everyday household items.
You can use it to easily lay out newspapers, cards, books, labels, stamps,
posters, charts, forms, and even designs like building plans or furniture
arrangements.

Further information
===================
For more information and screenshots see
http://www.manglais.com/promo/maul.html

Product, download, purchase and other web pages can all be accessed via
http://www.manglais.com/subs/php/product.php?MAULE300

New in this version
===================
This version adds features designed to make certain common DTP tasks much
simpler. The colour tuning dialog has been moved out of the bitmap handler,
and can now adjust the colours of any object in the document. This has been
extended with the ability to adjust groups of frames, such as used for
company logos. Further still, the colour adjustment has been modified to
make it possible to turn a colour logo into a grey tone version without
turning primary colours into white.

To simplify the creation of business cards, you can now add several to one
page, and drag them around until they snap to each other.

* Improved error logging messages are more readable.
* Fixed 'text object in a chain' deletion, undo and redo.
* Allows cut, copy paste and delete of lassoed sets of frames.
* Changed - Colour sliders from YUV (wrong) to HSB, and fixed the maths
involved.
* Fixed application freeze when editing some unicode characters.
* Fixed incorrect bitmap handling - this may cause faulty display in
older docs with 24bpp bmps.
* New - Snap to frames. You can now set the frames to snap to each other
when dragging.
* New - Adjust colours of whole groups of frames, regardless of their
content.
* New - Adjust primary colours to equivalent grey tones.

Software Maintenance Subscription
=================================
Please help to support further product development with a voluntary low
cost annual software subscription! Thank you.

To install or upgrade Maul:-
============================
Download maulebin315.zip, and either maulelen315.zip or maulelde315.zip or
both, depending on the language(s) you want. Registered customers can
simply run 'Check for updates' from Maul's 'Help' menu, or from the maul
installer.

Try
http://www.manglais.com/download.php

or later
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=maule

Net: Solutions based on eComStation

2008-04-30
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

eComStation may attract new users if it's commercially successful.

OS/2 (eComStation) is alive while people are using and improving the
system. The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating
system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by
year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed
support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions
competitive.

Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital
restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical
appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA),
CMMS, restaurants, etc.

Why should you write the story today?
* You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform.
* OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read
the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about your
company and products among own colleagues.
* The developer of the operating system will get information about your
requirements and improve OS to satisfy them.
* Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies.
* It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer.

Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions
list since 2002. You can publish German, Dutch, and English texts there.

How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add
Introduction, add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2
advertisement photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating
usage of OS/2.
