From: Mark Dodel

Doodle's ScreenSaver for OS/2 and eComStation 1.9. This is an Open Source
Screen Saver for OS/2 and eCS. It's integrated into the WPS, replaces the
old Lockup Desktop facility, and can cooperate with third party applications.

Currently in ftp://netlabs.org/incoming/dssaver_v19.exe
Source: ftp://netlabs.org/incoming/dssaver_v19_srcbin.zip
Eventually will move to ftp://netlabs.org/pub/dssaver

Changes:
v1.9:2008.04.22.
- added new setting to first page of screen saver settings to make it
possible to disable VIO popups while the screen saving is active.

Please note that if you want to use the Cairo saver modules, they require
Cairo v1.2.4 Runtime or newer to be installed first. It can be installed from
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/Cairo

[Moderator note: I apologize if this is a duplicate but there was a problem
with this post I sent to the list yesterday, and most if not everyone
subscribed to the list received a blank post with a corrupted header. We
had a problem with the server machine itself, with the disk space on the
drive where mail is processed being used up by an unrelated process. The
message went out but was completely corrupted. I am resending the message
below.]

SW: UDF plugin 1.0 for NetDrive

2008-05-12
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

Nickk has created a UDF plugin for NetDrive. It includes a replacement for
OS2CDROM.DMD and udf.dll (developed by nickk and froloff). UDF is an
optical drive filesystem used for writing to/reading CD-RW, DVD-RW and
DVD-RAM media.

"NDPUDF is a UDF filesystem plugin for NetDrive for OS/2. It's fully
compatible with OS/2, Windows and Unix (OSTA UDF2.0) realisations and may
be used as direct replacement of the UDF.IFS." (There is a note in the
readme that the included OS2CDROM.DMD replacement will not work with using
the original UDF.IFS in write mode.)

This month Al Hecht is really, really going to show us FileStar 3.0
(http://www.filestar.com/). It's been a very long wait, but it is finally
out of beta and like all good software has already had a couple of post GA
updates released.

Jordan Fox is going to bring his most recent problem system and we will try
to make it Internet ready.

Always Q&A. Always coffee and donuts. Always worthwhile.

SW: Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (Official) Has Been Released

2008-05-14
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Michael Kaply has released Mozilla's Thunderbird 2.0.0.14 (Official) for
OS/2. Thunderbird is Mozilla's state of the art, full-featured e-mail, RSS
and newsgroup client. It is OPEN SOURCE, and free. This release contains
fixes for stability and security.

You can download it here:

http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0.0.14/contrib/thunderbird-2.0.0.14.en-US.os2.zip

NOTE: In the unlikely event that you don't already have it, this release
requires the C runtime DLLs (libc-0.5.1) from Innotek. Version 0.5.1
includes an installer. Available here:

http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe

NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY
other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a
mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second
Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and
use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is
with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To
make life even easier, I recommend that you download & use the Internet
Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually
contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating
your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can
find it here:

http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe

Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip

Thunderbird extensions (add-ons) that add additional functionality are
available here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:1

Thunderbird themes (skins) are available here:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/browse/type:2

A utility to migrate mail from PMMail to Thunderbird is available here:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/mail/reader/pmm_tbird.zip

For more information on the Thunderbird e-mail and newsgroup client:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/thunderbird/

For a list of what's new in this release:

http://www.mozilla.com/thunderbird/releases/

Tips and tricks for Thunderbird can be found here:

If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox,
Thunderbird, & SeaMonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page
can be found here:
