SW: Firefox 3.0 RC2 News

2008-05-31
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderdDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Unfortunately an OS/2 version of Firefox 3.0 RC2 (Official) has been
delayed. To quote that great philosopher Forrest Gump, "Sh*t Happens".

Mike Kaply is waiting on a new build machine which he should have in a few
days. Once the new build machine is configured, he'll "get all this stuff
built".

Sander Nyman

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From:Mark Dodel

Paul Smedley has another unofficial build of the Open Source Edition of
VirtualBox for OS/2 host. Note there is no official OS/2 host, but some
former Innotek employees and others have worked on a version for OS/2 based
on the Open Source Edition of VirtualBox. An explanation of the
differences between this OSE version and the closed source version can be
found here: http://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Editions

Get Vbox/2 here: http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/index.php?page=virtualbox

"Another SVN update"

Download: http://download.smedley.info/virtualbox-svn-20080531-os2.zip

There is a support forum for the OS/2 host on the Innotek VirtualBox

SW: Samba Server and Netdrive client updated to 3.0.30

2008-05-31
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

Apparently Paul Smedley has been busy this weekend. :-) I just noticed
that the Samba Server and the Netdrive plugin have been updated to 3.0.28a
on the Netlabs.org FTP server.

"SAMBA is a SMB/CIFS protocols file and print sharing server/client set
originally made for UNIX world to cooperate with corresponding Windows and
OS/2 servers or clients. OS/2 has native implementation of SMB/CIFS
server/client set - IBM LAN Manager and IBM Peer. These products haven't
been updated for a long time and have some compatibility problems with
modern Windows SMB/CIFS implementations."
