SW: Shredder alpha 2 for OS/2

2008-08-18
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

Shredder is a very early alpha release of the next generation of
Thunderbird, the Mozilla based mail program. This series is to get
"feedback on new feature ideas, and get early and frequent feedback from
the tester community."

"These releases are not for production use, but for developers and testers
to give us early feedback. To emphasize this point, these alpha releases
are called Shredder -- they do not represent the final state of any
Thunderbird release, can contain significant bugs, and should be handled
with appropriate care."

http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/

August 18th, 2008 A few days after the release of Shredder alpha 2, it has
been released for OS/2, too.

[Moderator note: This program is the OS/2 port of MPlayer. MPlayer is a
movie player which runs on many systems (see the documentation). It plays
most MPEG/VOB, AVI, Ogg/OGM, VIVO, ASF/WMA/WMV, QT/MOV/MP4, RealMedia,
Matroska, NUT, NuppelVideo, FLI, YUV4MPEG, FILM, RoQ, PVA files, supported
by many native, XAnim, and Win32 DLL codecs. You can watch VideoCD, SVCD,
DVD, 3ivx, DivX 3/4/5 and even WMV movies.. Supports Support
SNAP/WarpOverlay!/DIVE, DART. The main MPlayer web site (not for OS/2,
just general information) is http://www.mplayerhq.hu

Translation in part from the original Japanese vis babel Fish
http://babelfish.yahoo.com/?urltext=&lp=ja_en

Requires kLIBC v0.6.3 ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi
and SDL 1.2 ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/sdl-1.2.10-bin-20080804.zip

For the Win32 Codecs see:
http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html#binary_codecs ]

MPlayer dev-SVN-r26012-OS2-3.3.5 is a release which Sava has rebuilt from
KO Myung-Hun's source.
It is expected to show improvement of playback quality with lower powered
machines.

Binary file:
http://www7.tok2.com.nyud.net:8080/home/metro/mplayer/mplayer-k-dev-svn-r26012-mybuild-20080813.zip
Source file:
http://www7.tok2.com.nyud.net:8080/home/metro/mplayer/mplayer-mybuild-extra-src-20080813.zip

[Point of difference of binary KO Myung-Hun]
- dart buffer addition (audio stall reduction with powerless machine)
- SDL output support (put SDL12.dll and FSLib.dll on LIBPATH,)
- ogg theora and speex support
- jpeg support
- Whether Japanese comment in the stream is just indicated?
- tcpip v4.0 edition bundled (without tcpip32 with environment starting
possibility)
- (Depending upon environment optimization of the compiler as for some
whether it is effective,…)

SW: PM123 release 1.40 alpha 3 fix 1

2008-08-19
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Marcel Müller

Hi,

I am currently (and regrettably slowly) working on PM123 1.40. Currently
release 1.40 alpha 3 fix 1 is available at
http://www.maazl.de/project/pm123/index.html#pm123_1.40

While it has plenty much of new features, it probably also has plenty much
of new bugs. Therefore I could use some help to find all the bugs. So feel
free to write test reports and enjoy the new features.

Marcel

SW: Update: PM123 release 1.40 alpha 3 fix 1

2008-08-20
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

Ed Durrant reports the following:

There appears to be a small error on the website, the download for 1.40A3
has three lines, one for the binary, one for binary without logging and one
for the source files, however they are all linked and all refer you to:

http://home.arcor.de/maazl/downloads/pm123-1.40a3-src.zip

To get to just the binary files (going by the naming standrds used for
earlier alphas, I went and downloaded

http://home.arcor.de/maazl/downloads/pm123-1.40a3.zip

I don't know if this is with or without logging however.

[Moderator note: The same binary file can be found on hobbes
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/sound/players/pm123-1.40a3.zip ]

Cheers/2

Ed.

SW: DFSee 9.11 released

2008-08-23
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Jan van Wijk

This is a minor release, with a 'Recover ONE file' menu item plus updates
and more documentation for scripting and some bugfixes.

One significant change in this release is that almost ALL numbers in DFSee
will now be interpreted as DECIMAL, unless a 0x prefix is used to make them
hexadecimal instead. This may affect some existing user scripts if they
used hexadecimal (sector) values without the hex prefix.

This more consistent number handling is needed when building commands using
(script) expressions, since these will result in decimal values by default.

DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with disk partitioning, filesystem
and disk analysis, file recovery, UNDELETE for HPFS, JFS, and NTFS,
resizing and smart imaging or cloning.
