From: Christian Hennecke

So far warpevents.eu has mostly been working in the background with current
and past Warpstock Europe event teams to create an infrastructure for them
to work with in terms of information, communication, and running the event
web sites. Now that this base has been established, we are turning towards
the public—you.

The warpevents.eu web site is intended to become the one-stop point for all
kinds of information about events related to OS/2 and eComStation. That
includes a future events calendar, an archive for past events including
presentation downloads, and information for potential organisers and event
teams.

While we are working on the technical infrastructure, we need your help to
fill it with life. Tell us about events, send us presentations, share your
experience in running events, discuss matters in the forum, or support us
with a donation.

SW: FM/2 3.11 released

2008-07-09
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Gregg Young

I have just uploaded FM/2 3.11 to ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/fm2
(moving to
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/fm2 )
and to hobbes
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-browse?dir=/pub/incoming&sort=date
moving to
http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-browse?sh=1&dir=//pub/os2/util/browser

FM/2 3.11 adds the option of having delete move the objects to the
Xworkplace trashcan. Undelete will open the trashcan so you can restore
deleted files. The only short coming is you will need to rescan in order to
see the restored file. We also added a reserved state which allows you to
return FM/2 to the state it was in on start up (the shut down state). We
have improved the filtering of file names that contain multiple periods and
fixed FM/2's failure to always follow the details settings from the setup
notebook. The primary task achieved for this release was the addition of
fortify support which allowed us to fix a handful of memory usage related
bugs. We fixed a few other minor issues see the history for more details.

SW: PMMail 3.01 released

2008-07-11
From: Neil Waldhauer

PMMail for OS/2 version 3.01 has been released. PMMail for OS/2 is an
e-mail client for OS/2 and eComStation. More information and a free
download of the demonstration version of the program are available on
our website at http://pmmail.os2voice.org

New features in PMMail 3.01

* Addition of new Incoming filter type: Incoming (pre-MC). Filters
of this type operate on a message before the Mail Classifier
(bogofilter) processes the message. The old filter type "Incoming" is
now named "Incoming (post-MC)".
* Character set aliases: Some character set names have common
misspellings. The Charset alias option allows these to be defined for a
given standard character set name.
* Most Recently Used address list updated only when a message is
sent. Previously it was updated when any address was added to the TO/CC
address.
* The Minimized window for PMMail flashes when new mail has been
retrieved. The length of time that it flashes may be limited to some
fixed time.
* Drag-n-Drop (aka: Direct Manipulation) message from the Search
window.
* Attachments may be dragged from the Read window to the Desktop.
* Fully compatible with tcp/ip v4.0 (16 bit stack).
* Timezone recognition improvements.
* When re-indexing a folder, the timezone and daylight savings time
are respected for the message's sent timestamp.
* When replying to a message and the message's character set is
different from the default charset, a warning pops up about the
discrepancy. The warning may be overridden in Settings::Locale.
* Mail Classifier updates may now be set for every XX program shutdown.
* The TEMP directory may be set to a different path than in the
Account directory. This increases performance when the mailstore is
located on a remote system.
* Improvements in the Spelling Checker
* Performance enhancements in processing message filters and
address books.
* Numerous defects fixed.

SW: ACPI 3.10 is available

2008-07-11
From: Eugene Gorbunoff

A) Fresh news: We get more reports that eComStation works fine on 8 cores.

B) Why to install ACPI for eComStation?

You should install ACPI for eComStation to:

Common (Notebooks, servers, barebones):
* to initialize PC (the devices are not initialized on boot without ACPI),
* to use multi-core CPU (Core Duo, AMD X2). Especially, if you want run
computer in APIC mode,
* device drivers for eComStation depend on ACPI,
* ACPI provides information about the computer to drivers, applications
and system information utilities.

Notebook, barebone:
* to manage power management (suspend/resume/poweroff)
* to reduce power consumption

For developer:
* The main purpose of the driver is to provide ACPI interface to applied
developers.

Net: USB Flash-disks and eComStation

2008-07-11
From: Eugene Gorbunoff

eComStation supports any USB flashdisk. Attention: it should be prepared
for (from) eComStation.

eCo Software created a site how to prepare flash disks (russian language).

Short list of suggestions:
* Start from review: USB Removables Care and Feeding FAQs (by Lon
Hooker) -- http://os2voice.org/VNL/past_issues/VNL0606H/feature_2.html
* Use LVM to create the volume. Don't use Windows tools.
* If LVM doesn't allow you create a volume then use (ALVM, Avalanche
LVM) -- http://ecomstation.ru/projects/alvm/download/alvm-20070301.zip
* If eComStation traps after flash eject then post bug-report to FAT32
bug-tracker. Use JFS filesystem (eComStation 2.0). post bug-report --
http://svn.netlabs.org/fat32/report/1
-> [New ticket]
Register to Login -- http://www.netlabs.org/site/member/
don't use short name&password, save your password
* If eComStation doesn't boot with USB Flash disk attached then
install updated USBD.SYS (was available during some days in BETAZONE,
spring 2008)
* How to increase speed of read/write to USB flash disk? Read USB FAQ--
http://ecomstation.ru/projects/usbtools/?action=faq
* Reports about tested USB flash disks --
http://ecomstation.ru/hardware.php?action=category&section=disk
* Does eComStation supports USB Harddisks? Yes (40 .. 500Gb), less
troubles than with flash disks.

Post addons to eCo Software support service --
