Net: EeePC install direct from USB connected CD/DVD drive

2008-11-10
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Ed Durrant

I have created a write-up on how to install eCS 2.0RC5 to an EeePC PC701
"netbook" mini-laptop, directly from a USB attached CD or DVD drive. This
is a follow up to my previous article on how to install to a bootable
Secure Digital card used in the PC. This time the internal disk is used.

This write up and the required modified driver patches is presently located
on hobbes.nmsu.edu at:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/How-to-install_from_USB_CD-to-Eeepc_v1.0.zip

But will later move to the the /PUB/OS2/DOC directory.

Thanks to all who assisted in making this work.

Note: although this document is specific to the ASUS EeePC PC701 the logic
of how to make eCS 2.0 RC5 install to a machine that only has a USB
attached CD/DVD drive should apply to all such systems.

SW: Nvidia Family Integrated LAN Adapter Released

2008-11-12
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

Nickk has released a driver for NVIDIA family integrated LAN adapters.

Installation information as well as documentation on switches to tune the
driver are also contained in the README file of the archive. The README
should be read completely, including the information on contacting Nick.
This driver remains largely untested, so feedback to Nick is VERY important.

SW: SeaMonkey 1.1.13 for OS/2 and eComStation

2008-11-13
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

Peter Weilbacher has released the official contribution of SeaMonkey 1.1.13
for OS/2 and eComStation. SeaMonkey is a "Web-browser, advanced e-mail
and newsgroup client, IRC chat client, and HTML editing made simple -- all
your Internet needs in one application."

Following is Peter's announcement:

"The "official" OS/2 packages of SeaMonkey 1.1.13 are now available from
the Warpzilla webpage ( http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ ) or the main
SeaMonkey download page ( http://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/ ).

Apparently 11 security issues (6 of them critical) were fixed in
cross-platform code for this release. No OS/2 specific changes were applied.

I made the packages in a bit of a hurry, please let me know (in this
newsgroup news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 or Bugzilla
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org ) if you find issues.

Peter."

operating system.

How many products created by eCo Software do you have on your PC?

1. Financial state of eCo Software. The sales of eComStation

Thinkpad troubles. Create additional utilities to simplify the setup
of the system.

programs cause the problems?

SW: Enhanced Mozilla applications updated to Gecko 1.8.1.18

2008-11-14
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Peter Weilbacher

New versions of my enhanced Mozilla based apps are available now from
http://pmw-warpzilla.sf.net/ :

- SeaMonkey 1.1.13 (PmW)
- PmW-Fx 2.0.0.18
- PmW-Tb 2.0.0.18

They are all based on Gecko 1.8.1.18 on the date of 2008-11-13 and built
from the exact same sources. They correspond directly to the respective
official releases of SeaMonkey, Firefox, and hopefully Thunderbird.
All applications need libc063.dll to run. ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc

These releases pick up all the changes done by Mozilla since my Gecko
1.8.1.17 release, i.e. between 2008-08-27 and 2008-10-30. This includes
fixes for 11 security issues, 6 of them critical.

One minor problem was fixed in PmW-Tb:
- The en-US version shipped with wrong branding (as Mail/News instead of
PmW-Tb) in some earlier releases. This has now been fixed.
No OS/2 specific changes were otherwise done.

Please report any problems to the newsgroup
news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2

Best regards,
Peter Weilbacher.

SW: Mup 5.5 - musical typesetting program ported on eCS

2008-11-15
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: mentore.siestoDESPAM@DESPAMalice.it

A little news for all the OS/2 - eCS users interested in music composing
and score typesetting.

Mup (Musical Publisher) is a little command-line program which reads an
ASCII file containing specific directives and gives in output brilliant
PostScript files containing musical scores with notes, staffs, clefs, tempo
and key signature, with many features and facilities.

I recently ported the latest release of mup (5.5) on OS/2 and decided to
publish it on Hobbes2, at
http://hobbes2.nmsu.edu/download/pub/os2/apps/mmedia/music/misc/mup_5_5.zip.

Mup is an Arkkra Enterprises ( http://www.arkkra.com ) production: a first
port of mup for OS/2 was done by Alexander Mai on behalf of my suggestions
on the UnixOS2 mailing list, then I took over porting on OS/2, using Paul
Smedley0s build environment and GCC 3.3.5.

Together with the main program I decided to bundle this package with some
third party utilities which can simplify some kind of works, like chord
printing and voice splitting on single scores.

This port is the second of my porting works: I hope in the future to
release more Open Source programs for the OS/2 community, using OpenWatcom
and GCC. I strongly encourage all OS/2 users to donate some money to Paul
Smedley and send him feedback on his OS/2 programs.
